Week Ending 6/10/23

Another busy week but not bad……………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

6/4/23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Home and lunch.  Loaded things in the truck and over to Mike and Julie’s.  Wired in a receptacle for Mike and fixed the drain and faucet in Shelby’s bathroom.  Back to Kroger to pick up some medication then over to Lowes to get vegetation killer.  Over to Milano’s in Shelbyville for dinner.  Home, put things away, did the blog and usual evening routine.

6/5/23 – Monday – Up a little late this morning.  Didn’t sleep well last night.  Kathy was suppose to go watch the grand kids but Julie called and said she was sick last night so didn’t go to work and Kathy didn’t need to come over.  I went out and started moving the last of the stone over.  Finished up and helped Kathy in the garden.  Then lubricated the garage doors at the house and the Morton building.  Helped Kathy some more.  Put hoses out for her at the pool.  Then inside, for a late lunch.  Cleaned up.  Chores around the house.  Had dinner then down to participate in a Zoom class.  Otherwise, usual evening routine.

6/6/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time this morning.  Kathy was out to get her toe nails done so her feet look pretty for the podiatrist.  I went to J-town and got a missing part for the pool skimmer.  Home and some chores around the house.  Kathy got home and we had lunch.  Out and loaded things to go to the church and spray the weeds in the parking lot.  Then home and sprayed the weeds along the drainage ditch.  Cleaned things up and inside.  Had steak on the grill and a salad for dinner. Usual evening routine.

6/7/23 – Wednesday – Up a little late this morning.  Kathy was up and out early to watch grand kids.  I came down to the shack and did some research and ordered some sprayer tips then cleaned up the emails.  Kathy came home a little after lunch and we ate.  Kathy went off to get her hair done and I did CW and played radio.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

6/8/23 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was already out to watch the grand kids.  I went out to get my hair cut.  Then computer work and practiced.  Kathy came home with the grand kids and we went to Dairy Queen for lunch.  Home and picked up things to go clean the church.  Did it in record time as Carter and Shelby helped.  Home and on the computer for a Zoom class at 4PM.  Dinner, and usual evening routine.

6/9/23 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy had to go out for a foot doctor appointment.  I practiced some code and played radio.  Lunch then out to do work on the pool and get some things organized in the shop.  Inside to cool down and shower.  Had Chinese takeout for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

6/10/23 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Julie was coming over to have Kathy dye her hair.  So I got busy and got out of the house.  Drove the golf cart around to the lower back door.  Inside and practiced my CW.  Loaded stuff to take over to the Morton building on the cart.  Drove over and put things away where they belonged.  Married off gas cans and took two down to fill them and topped of the truck at the same time.  Home and put things away.  Up for lunch.  Kathy was on her way out to paint the deck where the stain wore off.  I helped her finish up, cleaned things and put them away.  Tried to revive an old Christmas tree that we put out on the front porch but just couldn’t figure things out.  So that will go in the trash on Thursday.  Came in the house and cooled down.  Then cleaned up.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

My friend Gary was tied up last Sunday so we didn’t have the afternoon get together. So Mike texted and said he was ready for me to wire up the receptacle in Carter’s bathroom. So I gathered tools and we headed over after lunch. Of course Julie had some things for me. The drain had been broken in the bathroom Shelby uses for many weeks so I fixed that. And the cold water faucet was stripped so I fixed that as well. Then had a little talk with Shelby about not making such a mess in her bathroom. No idea if that will help.

We spent several days this week outside getting things done. All the stone we used for the rose garden and out front of the house is now where it belongs and is no longer on the pad in front of the shop. The garden is tilled and planted. Pool is ready for the deck furniture, ladder and other items. And I got the shop cleaned up. All is good.

Tuesday we spent the day spraying. I took my D170 and the sprayer attachment I built over to the church and sprayed the parking area for weeds. And since I had the material in it, we sprayed around the pool, the fire pit and along the drainage ditch. That’s all done for this year.

Thursday we cleaned the church. Shelby and Carter came over with Kathy to have lunch at Dairy Queen so we used their help and got the job done in a little less than an hour. I think that’s a record.

I’ve continued my CW practice. The classes I’m taking are helping. I hope to get up to 12 words per minute before summer is over. Then I can continue practice during the winter and perhaps get my speed up close to 20 WPM. Time will tell. In the mean time I am doing some QSOs with some other people that are at about my level of ability as well as checking into the nightly CW traffic net at 9AM. That is contingent on my staying awake that late.

Actually, the sleep thing is becoming a problem. I think I’m sleeping too much. I’m going to get some things going that I can work on in the evening that will keep me awake till more like 10 or 11. And I’ll start getting up at 7AM. Just another personal improvement item on my list.

Well, that’s about it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. Sounds like your outside chores are getting caught up for the year. I have my weeding to do now that I’m back home. That is an early morning task before it gets to 100 degrees. Stay healthy and safe!
