Week Ending 9/16/23

Don’t expect a lot this week, not much happening…………….

As always, first the chronology:

9/10S23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Had lunch at church.  Home, did the blog and over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home, picked up Kathy and over to the Cracker Barrel for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

9/11/23 – Monday – Up a little late this morning.  Did some code practice then cleaned up and Kathy and I went to the church to clean up the audio booth and check out some equipment.  Then to Cattleman’s for a late lunch.  Walmart and Lowes for some shopping.  Home and unloaded things.  Down to the shack to do some research.  Up for a snack for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

9/12/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Did my code practice, fixed the outside lights outside the doors downstairs.  Helped Kathy with a few things.  Had an early lunch.  Tried to take a nap to no avail.  Played radio awhile.  Early dinner then out to a HAM club meeting.  Home and usual evening routine.

9/13/23 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was already out for a doctor’s appointment.  I got cleaned up and practiced some code.  Then down to Taylorsville to pick up some light bulbs I ordered at ACE hardware.  Home and played radio.  Up for lunch.  The adapter kit came for my bug so I installed that, adjusted things and practice with that awhile.  Kathy came home and I helped her unload the car.  Took a little nap.  Up and had dinner.  Usual evening routine.

9/14/23 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was already out to go take the kids to school.  Something to do with no power.  Plans were to do yard work but it was cool so we waited till around 11AM when the temps got in the upper 60s.  In the mean time Nick came over to drop off a microphone and have a coffee.  Outside around 11:30AM to start yard work.  Broke for lunch around 1PM.  Finished about 2:30.  Inside to cool down and have a snack.  Cleaned up.  A short nap.  Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

9/15/23 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy and I got ready and went into J-town to Kroger.  I picked up some medication and she got her flu shot.  Then up to GFS and picked up some things they ordered for the pig roast.  Took that out to the Kennedy farm and put it in their freezer.  Then to Taylorsville to pick up a few things at Country Mart.  Over to the Mexican restaurant for lunch.  Dairy Queen for desert.  Home and put things away.  I took a nap.  Then up and did my Zoom class.  A snack for dinner and usual evening routine.

9/16/23 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to work on the repeater.  Spent a couple hours up on the farm.  Stopped at Dollar General for milk and a couple other items.  Home and put things away.  Had lunch.  Took a nap.  Up and downstairs to start working on Supermon.  Got that loaded and all working.  Had burgers on the grill for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

Now the particulars:

Thursday we did the yard work. Not that it really needed it but we thought if we let it go it would be much more difficult the next time. Things are dry. The ground is cracking. But it was easy to do. Started around 11AM when it warmed up, took a break for lunch and finished about 2:30. Not bad at all.

Tuesday I went to a HAM club meeting. Nothing formal on the agenda and they chattered about things I really didn’t care about. But it was good to get out of the house.

Kathy volunteered to go to the church with me on Monday to clean up the audio booth. No one does that and it gets very humid so things are sticky and just thrown around. So we went over the shelves, took things down, organized, cleaned the shelves and put things back. Have a bunch of stuff to throw out but that will be another day.

Played with a new program called Supermon. It goes on my allstar link node and gives me information about the performance, etc. Yea, I know, not something you are interested in. lol

Continuing with my CW efforts. Got my “Certificate of Proficiency” from the ARRL this week. I got that for copying code off the W1AW station at 10 WPM. Now just need to improve my speed. I think the next level is 15 WPM.

Kathy was a good and brave little girl this week and got her flu shot Friday. No adverse affects. So we are both good for this years flu season if they got the vaccine setup for the correct strain. I also hear the new COVID vaccine will be available shortly. I will be getting that also. For all you anti-vaxers, I’m not saying this is for everyone. There may be long term adverse affects but I doubt it. In any case, I’m 75 years old and if the affects hit me in 10 to 20 years I won’t give a shit. In near term, it’s a proven fact that this stuff doesn’t protect you against getting the flu, but it will lessen the effects. This is my decision as it is your decision not to get vaccinated. So, let’s respect one another’s opinion.

OK, like I said, not a lot happening this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
