A very interesting week. Did a lot of different things…………..
As always, first the chronology:
10/22/23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Emptied the dishwasher and tended the dogs. Cleaned up and out to church. Home and lunch. Down to do the blog. Out to Gary’s for the Sunday afternoon get together. Stopped for some groceries on the way home. Home, dinner and usual evening routine.
10/23/23 – Monday – Up at the usual time. Tended the dogs and got cleaned up. Tried to practice code and was doing horrible. So out in the truck and up to Mike and Julie’s house to check it over. Then down to the pool supply store for a fitting that broke on the filter when I took it apart this year. Quick stop at the bank for some cash and down to Country Mart for some groceries. Home and had lunch. Tried to lay down for a nap but the dogs had other ideas. So, fixed an issue with my google home mini in the bedroom and down to reorganize things so I could free up the table in the kitchenette. Practiced some ARRL on air code then up for dinner. Down and practiced some more code, fixed the sustain peddle on my keyboard. Otherwise, usual evening routine.
10/24/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time. Tended the dogs then downstairs to practice code. Started working on my friend Craig’s project. Spent a few hours this morning and a couple more this afternoon. Had a short nap right after lunch. Took the dogs out to play in the yard awhile. Had the remaining Knockwurst and Sauerkraut for dinner. Usual evening routine.
10/25/23 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time. Tended the dogs then cleaned up and over to Mike and Julie’s house to check things out. All OK. Down to Kroger to pick up a prescription. Home, put the truck away and inside for lunch. Down to practice code. Up and spent time with the dogs. Tried taking a nap to no avail. Did some cleaning then dinner. Usual evening routine.
10/26/23 – Thursday – Up a little early this morning. Rusty thought I should be getting up at 6:30. Had breakfast, got cleaned up and started the domestic chores. Three loads of laundry, changed bed clothes, cleaned kitchen. That was about it for the day. Decided to go out for Chinese takeout for dinner. Kathy arrived home around 8:30PM. Otherwise, usual evening routine.
10/27/23 – Friday – Up at the usual time. Kathy was having issues with her legs. She called the doctor and they could see her today at 1:30 so I got cleaned up, put the Vibe back where it belonged and got the truck. Took her into the doctors. Stopped at Bestbuy on the way home for a new Router. Home and put things away. Setup the new router. Had dinner. Usual evening routine.
10/28/23 – Saturday – Up at the usual time. Downstairs to start cleaning up after the router swap out. Up for lunch. Cleaned up and out grocery shopping with Kathy. Home and put things away. Down and continued the cleanup effort. Up for dinner. Usual evening routine.
The highlight of the week was Kathy going to Punta Cana with Julie and her family. Todd and a friend of his (Female of course) from New York joined them as well. Kathy left early last Saturday morning. She decided to take our Vibe and park it at the airport. That would save me from getting up and taking her in at 1:30 in the morning and she figured the parking would only be around $60 for the 5 days. She was taking the Vibe so if something happened to it there would be no great loss. She made it to the airport and got on her flight OK. All was going well but her reputation of screwing up airline connections kicked in and they missed their connecting flight at Dulles Airport in Virginia as the plane from Louisville into Dulles was an hour and a half late. So, they spent the night in Virginia and caught an early morning flight on Monday. They got to Punta Cana and everyone had a great time. Now the trip home. She made all the connections on Thursday and got into Louisville Airport around 6:30. She got to the Vibe and it ended up costing her over $100 for the 5 day parking. Then she went the wrong way on the Waterson expressway and ended up on the west end of Louisville which is not a place I want to go let alone have Kathy alone in a car in that area. I got her on the phone and got her back on track to getting home. She finally arrived around 8:30PM. She was hoarse and could not set for any length of time as she would experience pain in the back of both upper legs. We got her in to see the doctor downtown on Friday afternoon and was diagnosed with some form or bilateral sciatica. Got some medication for that which we picked up on our way home and things seem to be much better today. I don’t think I’m going to let her go off on her own like that again and definitely won’t be driving herself to the airport.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, things were rather busy. I did eat well. Saturday evening I had some of my Jambalaya. That was great. Sunday was my usual day of doing the blog and going over to Gary’s so I didn’t feel like fixing anything so I had a frozen dinner. Monday after lunch I put a couple cans of Frank’s Sauerkraut and 4 Knockwurst in the crock pot. Made some instant mash potatoes and had that meal Monday and Tuesday evening. Wednesday was a little busy so I just had a frozen dinner again. Then Thursday prior to Kathy getting home I went down to Taylorsville and got some Chinese takeout for dinner. I was well fed for the week.

I got my new business cards. The color is much nicer than the picture. It’s a nice blue but for some reason I could not get a good picture with my phone that adequately reproduced the color. But this is what it looks like. Holler if you want one. I got a hundred which should last me till I die.
With things in a little turmoil this week I sort of lost track of code practice discipline. So that got put to the side. I tried to do my Zoom classes but things kept dropping out on me so I gave up on that. But I think I needed a break. I usual do much better for a couple weeks after taking a break. I’ll let you know next week how that works out.
Was having some interesting problems around the house. My weather station was going offline for no reason. The Roku on the television was starting to lose it’s connection and sometimes the cell phone would not switch to the WiFi at the east end of the house. I started trouble shooting and since it was on various devices I ruled out the devices themselves. So, Spectrum (our cable company), the router or interference were all possibilities. I ruled out Spectrum by going directly into the cable modem and all looked good. I didn’t have anything to sniff out interference at 5Ghz so on the way back from taking Kathy to the doctor I stopped at Bestbuy and got a new router. Installed and configured it and all is good. So, the conclusion is that the old router had intermittent issues with the 5Ghz WiFi channel. I’ll be able to resume my Zoom classes next week.
That’s about it for this week. As always, hope this finds you safe and well. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
Answered my question from last week…dog sitting!
