Week Ending 11/04/23

Another busy week…………………………………………………………………………

As always, first the chronology:

10/29/23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Had lunch at church.  Home and did the blog.  Over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home, picked up Kathy and over to Shelbyville to the Channel Catfish House for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

10/30/23 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Down to practice CW.  Doing better today.  Upstairs and dug out some winter clothes and put some summer clothes away.  Had lunch and Kathy took off to take Chloe for an eye exam.  I did computer backups and listened to some CW.  Kathy came home and we had leftovers for dinner.  I helped her copy some pictures off her phone.  Then downstairs and usual evening routine.

10/31/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and down to practice code.  Chores around the house.  Light lunch.  Kathy took off to take Shelby to a doctor’s appointment.  I headed up to Mike and Julie’s place to hang out till the guys got there to deliver and install the new dishwasher.  They called and were running late and wouldn’t be there till around 4:30.  Mike came home and I took off.  Saw the guys delivering the dishwasher pull in as I was leaving.  Home and picked up Kathy.  Over to Shelbyville and Cracker Barrel for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

11/01/23 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Down to practice code.  Helped Kathy put things up over the garage for storage this winter.  Had lunch.  Trip to ACE hardward and Country Mart with Kathy.  Home and unloaded things.  Took the Chrysler over to air up the tires.  Put the new fitting on the pool filter.  Did a little cleaning up in the shop.  Back to the house and tried to take a nap but dogs had other ideas.  Down for a Zoom class at 3PM.  Up for dinner, usual evening routine.

11/02/23 – Thursday – Up a little early today.  Kathy was already out to volunteer at the VA hospital for the day.  I got cleaned up and down to get my hair cut.  Home and started the domestic chores.  4 loads of laundry (Who would think two old people would accumulate so much laundry) and changed the bed linen.  Kathy got home around 4PM.  Had dinner and usual evening routine.

11/03/23 – Friday – Up a little late today.  Down and started to practice code.  Todd called so I was tied up for an hour.  Upstairs and lunch.  Kathy and I went down and voted early.  Down to the church and pulled out the AV equipment for the woman’s group meeting next weekend.  Tried some different things and decided how they wanted it done.  We put it away till next Friday and I’ll set it up for them.  Home and did a couple hour Zoom classes.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

11/04/23 – Saturday – Up a little late again today.  Got cleaned up, loaded tools and electrical supplies in the truck and Kathy and I headed up to Mike and Julie’s to look at a couple things.  Couldn’t help Mike with his problem.  I have no idea what is happening with the lights he is concerned with.  Went to Chloe’s room and took the cover off the switches and one of the switches was broke.  Replaced that and her ceiling light works now.  Went up to Westport road, stopped at Bob Evan’s for a late lunch.  Then to the office supply store for some mechanical pencils.  Down to the bank and got some money then home and put things away.  Kathy took off grocery shopping and I did some research on the computer.  Kathy came home, helped unload the car and put things away.  Had dinner then usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

The HAM club I belong to always has a dinner rather than a meeting in December. It is difficult in this area to find a place that will accommodate a couple dozen folks in one place for a social type dinner. It’s too far out to expect everyone to travel into Louisville and there just isn’t many places available. One of the places they found was Claudia Sanders restaurant. They wanted to charge something like $35 a person for a nice buffet. That is a little steep for a lot of folks in the club so they decided on the Channel Catfish House. It’s a restaurant associated with a small docking facility for boats on a river. They are normally on winter hours now that the summer fun days are over and are usually closed Monday and Tuesday. But they agreed to open just for the HAM club. So, Kathy and I decided to go over last Sunday and check out the place. It is definitely off the beaten path. You would never know it existed if you weren’t told about it. Of course they specialize in Catfish and neither of us like that. So, I had a Cod dinner and Kathy had a smash burger (Same thing as a hamburger). Kathy said the smash burger wasn’t bad and I didn’t think the Cod was too bad. The tarter sauce had too much lemon in it so I didn’t eat much of it. But after we got home I was tasting the fish all night. So, we have to pre-order our meals in 2 weeks so I guess we’ll both have the smash burger.

Monday I spent a good part of the day digging out winter clothes and putting away a lot of summer things. To my surprise I found a whole bunch of pants that I can wear now that I lost weight. Kathy spent longer sorting through her stuff. Then I drug the bulk of the stuff up to our storage area over the garage on Wednesday.

Julie and Mike were having a new dishwasher delivered and installed on Tuesday. They got it at Lowes and they would only promise that it would be delivered sometime between 1 and 4PM. Kathy was tied up with Shelby so I had to go up and hang out. Of course around 3:30 I got a call that they were running late and wouldn’t be there till 4:30. So I hung around till Mike got home around 4:30 and I left. They folks delivering the dishwasher were just pulling in as I was going down the road. A totally wasted day.

Kathy thought she should find something to do this winter rather than sit around the house and play computer games so she signed up to volunteer at the VA hospital. This Thursday was her day to go and follow people around. I went for a haircut first thing and of course it was laundry day so I came home, stripped the bed and started the laundry. Spent the day cleaning things up, doing laundry and putting the bed back together. She came home around 4PM and said she liked it. So, I guess it will be a routine for me now on Thursdays to do the laundry and domestic chores.

The church is having a fall retreat of the woman’s group this coming Saturday. They are having some kind of DVD presentation so they needed the equipment to play that. I went down Friday and met with one of the leaders. I got the stuff out and put it together. All works and they are happy with the setup so this coming Friday I will go down and put it all together and probably go down some time later Saturday when everything is over to take things apart and put it away.

Mike had some electrical issues at the house. He has some recessed spaces that have various statues with lights in the top that light up the statues. The lights don’t work. It has at least two switches that control those lights that he knows of and I could not figure out what is going on. I had the switch plates off three different locations and everything looks OK. I tried to figure things out with a voltmeter but I was getting weird readings like 60 to 90 volts. In house wiring the only thing you should have it 120 volts. I told him to call an electrician because it was over my head. Then the ceiling light wouldn’t work in Chloe’s room. I checked that out and found a bad wall switch. Replaced that and all was good in her room.

Did some banking this week. People can tell me how much Bidenomics is working but from my personal observations they are full of shit. I had things setup so everything would happen automatically but when you don’t get enough return on the investments to pay the mortgage you gotta start robbing Peter to pay Paul. Anyway, it’s all taken care of for another year. I have no doubt things will recover as they always have but in the mean time things are getting tight. But we will not have our quality of life affected. So that’s a good thing.

Been keeping up with the code this week. Attended three one hour Zoom classes and have been trying to practice on a daily basis. I had a nice chat with a fellow in Texas using CW last evening. So I guess I’m improving. I did buy some new mechanical pencils. I was getting tired of trying to keep regular pencils sharp and when I tried using the Pentel pencils they were so small in diameter that my fingers kept cramping. So, I got some Tul mechanical pencils that work very much like the Pentel but are much bigger around. They don’t seem to cause my hands to cramp. I got the .7mm so the lead doesn’t break easily. That all seems to be working much better.

Well sorry for being so long winded this week. But that is all for now. As always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. You are one busy man. Better than being bored. I always need to be busy doing something. In the process of fall cleaning…so much fun!
