Week Ending 03/30/24

Not so busy but a productive week………………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

3/24/24 – Sunday – Up a little early today.  Was suppose to go see Chloe dance but that didn’t happen.  Kathy and I went to church at the regular time.  Had lunch there and Kathy had choir practice.  Home and gathered things together to go to Gary’s house for the afternoon get together.  Stopped at Kroger Pharmacy to pick up pills for Kathy and me.  Home then took Kathy to the Chinese restaurant in Taylorsville for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

3/25/24 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Made the “Over the Hill” net.  Kathy was already out to take Shelby to the dermatologist.  I reset and reconfigured the router and fixed that problem.  Then fixed my HamClock.  Kathy came home and we had lunch.  Finished up paper work for the Sheriff’s office and ran that down.  Stopped at the propane company to find out why I haven’t gotten a bill. Then home.  Put the CDM-1250 on the bench and tested it.  Found no problems put that all back.  Then assembled the UHF antenna that John Kreno brought over for me yesterday.  Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

3/26/24 – Tuesday – Up a little early today.  Cleaned up and out at 8AM to go up for a doctor’s appointment.  It’s my annual wellness visit.  Everything looked good on lab work etcetera so we just talked about what radio would be best for he and his buddy that haul trailers around for a marching band to communicate on road trips.  Got home and did some paper work.  Kathy was off to a doctor’s appointment in downtown Louisville.  I had lunch and was tired from the dogs bothering me last night so I went to bed for a nap.  Up and gathered the tax paperwork.  Had dinner and usual evening routine.

3/27/24 – Wednesday – Up late this morning.  Couldn’t get to sleep last night.  Probably because I napped too much yesterday.  Spent the day getting tax stuff together.  Kathy went to get a pedicure this morning.  Picked up Jimmy John sandwiches for lunch.  Helped me with the tax stuff this afternoon.  Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

3/28/24 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was up and out for her volunteer stint at the VA early.  She has a dentist appointment this afternoon so she wants to leave early.  I made the net then cleaned up the kitchen and finished the laundry.  Cleaned up and out to the bank then to the accountant to drop off the tax papers.  While I was up that way I went on over Shelbyville road and had lunch at Twin Peaks.  Better this time.  Then home.  Let the dogs out and down to the shack for emails and to clean up a little after making a mess doing the tax stuff.  Did the Zoom class at 3PM.  Kathy was home when I was finished with that.  We took a short nap.  Then dinner and out to church.  Home and usual evening routine.

3/29/24 – Friday – Up a little early this morning.  Cleaned up before breakfast.  Made the “Over the Hill” net while eating.  When finished, loaded tools in the car and drove up to Indiana (only about 45 minutes) to help a friend of Julie’s get her house in order.  Got up there about 9:30 and worked till around 2PM.  Made it home in time to unload the tools and get at my desk for a Zoom class at 3PM.  Hadn’t eaten since breakfast so Kathy and I went to a local Mexican restaurant right after my Zoom class was over at 4PM.  Went for a quick shopping trip to Country Mart then home.  Brush the teeth and washed up and out for Good Friday service at 7PM.  Home and usual evening routine.

3/30/24 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Usual Saturday morning routine.  Down to the shack to cleanup emails and do other computer maintenance.  Up for lunch.  A nap.  Screwed off the rest of the day.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Chloe was suppose to dance at a Baptist church in Crestwood. It was an event associated with Easter. Kathy and I were going to go see it and support her but she got up not feeling well. Running a temperature so Julie decided she shouldn’t go. So, Kathy and I got ready and went to church down her doing the usual thing. Although someone cooked for lunch so we had lunch at the church after the service.

Tuesday morning I had to restore my router to factory defaults and reload it. I had done a firmware upgrade and it had a bug in it that prohibited me from being able to get into it through the browser interface. That had some features that I couldn’t get to any other way so I was forced into re-setting it. Took about an hour to get everything reconfigured correctly and all is good now.

I’m not sure why but the Raspberry Pi that was running my HamClock (A display with all kinds of good information about HAM radio) stopped working over the Wifi. So I turned it off Sunday night and fired that up again Monday morning and reconfigured it and all is well now. The Pi was laying on it’s side so it might have been a heat issue. In any event, that has been behaving itself all week now.

I had some paper work to finish and take to the Sheriff’s Office. They were advertising for people to do court security. It’s rather quiet out here and I spoke to a couple people about the risk and it seems to be very low. So, I filled out the paper work and we’ll see what happens. I doubt anything will come of it. I’m not sure I’d be upset as it requires two weeks training in Richmond, KY which is about an hour and a half drive from here.

Been having issues with my TARPN link to Radcliff. So Monday afternoon when I got back to the house I pulled the radio and TNC associated with that leg and put it on the work bench and checked everything to make sure it was good. All was OK so I put it back. Will see if things clear up here. Otherwise we’ll have to figure out something different.

Tuesday I went for my annual wellness visit. I did the blood work last week and everything looks good. Since I have no complaints I’m not sure why I went. But we chatted about radios and that was it. Nothing else exciting on that issue.

Worked on putting the paperwork together for the taxes this week. Spent some time Tuesday and most of Wednesday getting things organized, added up and documented. Had to call for some forms I should have had. But they emailed them to me so it wasn’t really an issue other than they broke the law since they were suppose to have them by the beginning of March. I dropped the stuff off at the accountant’s office Thursday morning. I was a little taken back when the secretary said they would probably have to file an extension. I don’t think I got the paperwork to them much later last year. It will be unfortunate for them if they file an extension as I’ll find someone else to do them next year. But she was the same person that told me I need the 4398 forms but the IRS said I didn’t. So time will tell.

Since I was out Shelbyville road to drop off the taxes and Kathy was doing her volunteer thing, I went on out to Twin Peaks and had a burger for lunch. I hate their fries but the burger was good. Scenery wasn’t bad either. I’ll have to check out Hooter’s again this week to decide which I like better.

Friday the wife and I went up to Indiana to a friend of Julie’s. She recently moved here from Alaska. She got a divorce while in Alaska and I think she was just looking for a place to be around people she knew. Anyway, we helped put up some curtain rods and put together a few things for her. Really didn’t get everything done so I’ll make a solo trip up this week one day and finish things up for her.

We didn’t take a break for lunch and Christine didn’t offer to feed us so we just headed back when we were done. Got back just in time for me to make my 3PM Zoom class. Then I took the wife to the new Mexican in Elk Creek for an early dinner.

Saturday I was feeling it physically for the work I did at Christine’s on Friday. Did the usual Saturday morning chores but not much more. Hopefully the feeling of not wanting to do anything will go away for next week.

I’ve been keeping up with the Zoom classes. Did Thursday and Friday. The guy on Friday is brutally honest. He really pushes. That’s a good thing. I definitely have some work to do before next week.

Well that’s about it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week. Happy Easter everyone.
