Another busy week. I”m not sure what is happening, well a little……………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
4/7/24 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Out to church with Kathy. Home and lunch. Did some things on the computer then out to see Gary. Home, picked up Kathy and back up to the Yoki Buffet for dinner with the Rice family. Home and usual evening routine.
4/8/24 – Monday – Up at the usual time. Made the “Over the Hill” net. Kathy was off to do errands for Julie with the grand kids. I went out and married off gas cans then took two down and got them filled. Started the yard work around 10AM. Finished up about 4:30PM with a break for lunch around 1PM. Kathy got home about the time I was finishing up and did dogs on the grill. Had dinner then usual evening routine.
4/9/24 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time. Made the Over the Hill” net. Kathy was up and out to take Shelby to the doctor’s for a pain in her side. I went to the shack and practiced some CW and did computer work. Kathy came home with Shelby and we had lunch. I got cleaned up and down to the Sheriff’s Office for a meeting. Home and a short nap. Had dinner then out to a HAM club meeting in Shelbyville. Home and usual evening routine.
4/10/24 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time. Kathy was out early to go downtown to a doctor’s appointment. I put some laundry away and got cleaned up. About the time Kathy was back from downtown I was off for some errands. I got back around noon and put the truck away. Then Kathy and I went to Hometown for lunch. Home and Kathy took a nap. I went to the shack and started doing some paperwork and computer work. Kathy got up and was off to take Chloe to the orthodontist. I did some things on the phone. Kathy came home and we had dinner. Then out to J-town to pick up the key to the Masonic Lodge and get an education on the paperwork the VE coordinator does at the HAM testing. Home, put the truck away and inside for desert. Otherwise usual evening routine.
4/11/24 – Thursday – Up a little late and missed the net this morning. Kathy was off to do her volunteering at the VA hospital. I went to the shack and did some bench work. Up for lunch and an hour nap. Back downstairs and did some computer work till my 3PM Zoom class. Kathy came home and took a nap. We had dinner then usual evening routine.
4/12/24 – Friday – Up late this morning. Could not get to sleep last night. Kathy was off to get her hair done. I did some chores then learned some more about my Apple Watch. Kathy came home and we loaded cleaning supplies for the church in the car then down to the Lighthouse Diner for a big lunch. Then to the church to clean. Got home around 2:30PM. Made my Zoom class at 3PM. Finished that up then out to J-town to run the ham testing at 5:30PM. Finished that up around 7PM. Put things away and locked up the building. Home and had a snack for dinner. Otherwise, usual evening routine.
4/13/24 – Saturday – Up at the usual time. Did my Saturday morning routine. Then down to the shack to do some CW practice and look through emails. Up for lunch then out to the shop to do the annual maintenance on the push mowers that I didn’t get to last year. Inside about the time Julie stopped by with all the grand kids. She had the girls to the Blue Moon Salon to get their hair done. She stopped by to trim the dogs nails. Then a short nap. Up for dinner and usual evening routine.
Now the particulars:
Kathy has been commenting that she was hungry for Chinese. We have a Chinese buffet here called the Yoki Buffet and the specialty on Sunday is seafood. So, I decided that it was a good place to go for our Sunday evening dinner. And our grand daughter Chloe loves this place so we invited the Rice family to go along. As always it was a great meal and good time with the family.
Monday I did the yard work. Kathy was busy running the grand kids around as they had the day off school so I did it myself. It took me from around 10AM in the morning till almost 4:30PM in the afternoon. But I took it slow and steady. Got it all done. And it didn’t look bad. Only got the D170 stuck in the mud once and threw the belt off three times. I learned I can’t mow listening to my ear buds as I can’t hear the mower bog down. After I figured that out I didn’t have anymore problem with throwing the mower deck drive belt.
OK, I guess it’s time to tell you a little about these cryptic things going on here. I really didn’t want to tell you till I knew the outcome but anyone that reads this is a friend and will understand regardless of the outcome. So, a few week ago I saw a post on facebook that they were looking for security guards for the county courts. It’s a long process to explain so briefly we have a state circuit court and a regular court here in the county. Both located in Taylorsville. They advertised for around 24 hours a week and they pay $15 an hour. So, I thought what the hell, I”ll give it a go. Well, my first surprise was being informed when I picked up the application paperwork that it was an armed position. So I wasn’t sure about doing it. I spoke to my friend who just retired from the U.S. Marshall’s service and he laughed. He agreed that the $15 per hour wasn’t much for an armed position but he said the risk is really low. Basically you are bored to death. So, I filled out the paper work making a lot of guesses and took it down and turned it in. The application was sloppy as hell as I was scribbling all over it as I thought of things. Anyway, I did my best. To my surprise, I got a call the end of last week to come down for an interview Tuesday this past week. I did that Tuesday afternoon and found out more interesting stuff. It seems the position is actually a peace officer. That means you do the same things and have the same power as a police officer while you are working but after you are off you have no authority or responsibility. Rather interesting. So, they seemed to like my interview and sent me for finger prints and a drug test on Wednesday morning. They also gave me some more paper work to fill out and I almost have that done. I guess I just wait now till the results of the drug test and finger print and background check all come back. I’ll keep you posted.
So besides the interview on Tuesday I went to a HAM club meeting in Shelbyville.
Wednesday, Kathy had an Doctor’s appointment in Louisville. So she drove in there herself. I ran the errands getting the finger prints and drug test. Did some domestic chores in the morning before the errands. When I got back I took Kathy to Hometown for lunch. Did some computer work and started digging out things like social security card, high school diploma and a slew of other things they want.
Got a email from the guy that normally runs the HAM testing and he said he was going to be tied up and asked if I would run the testing session on Friday. So I went into J-town in the evening on Wednesday to pick up a key to the facility and go over the paperwork I needed to do.
Thursday Kathy was up to the VA for her volunteer detail. I did some work on the bench in the morning. Up for lunch then computer work till time for my Zoom class at 3PM. Kathy was home by then and we had dinner.
Friday was a very busy day. Kathy went to get her hair colored. I did some domestic chores. She came home and we went down to the Lighthouse Diner for lunch. Then to clean the church. Got home in time for my Zoom class at 3PM. After class I washed up and headed into J-town for HAM testing. We had 6 people test. That is the most we’ve had in a long time. But I got through it. On the way home I remembered some stuff I forgot. Nothing important. I’m sure Tom will figure it out. Hopefully I didn’t do it so well that they’ll ask me to do it often.
And Saturday I got a chance to go to the shack and do some serious CW practice. I wanted to get on the air a little but didn’t have time for that. Had lunch then out to the shop to do annual maintenance on the two push mowers we have. I didn’t do it last year so I did a good job this time. New spark plugs, air filter, the one has a replaceable gas filter that I changed and of course I drained and replace the oil. Finished up and into the house for a snack.
Julie came by with all the grand kids. She had the girls down at the salon Kathy and I get our hair cut at. She stopped on the way home to trim the dogs nails for us.
Well, that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
