Another busy week……………………………………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
4/14/24 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy. Home and lunch. Down to the shack to practice CW. Out to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Home, picked up Kathy and over to Cattleman’s for dinner. Back home, put the truck away and usual evening routine.
4/15/24 – Monday – Up at the usual time. Made the “Over the Hill” net. Kathy was off to take Carter to the orthodontist. I went to the shack and practiced CW. Then out to the Morton building to do the annual maintenance on the golf cart. Couldn’t find the parts to do that. Looked all over and moved things around. Inside and looked all over the garage. Back to the shack to work on CW and put the connector on the end of some LMR-400 coax. Kathy came home and I helped her unload the car and put things away. Then we both look for the parts and I finally looked in my maintenance log and sure enough, I did the maintenance last fall in November. So, inside and re-ordered things for the next maintenance on things. Then dinner. Usual evening routine.
4/16/24 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time. Made the “Over the Hill” net. Kathy was doing laundry and getting ready for her woman’s group luncheon at church. I practiced some code. Then out and started the yard work. In around 1PM for lunch and back out. Kathy came home after her group meeting and helped. Finished up around 3PM. Inside, a snack and some Gatoraid. An hour nap. Up and showered. Dinner and usual evening routine.
4/17/24 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time. Made the “Over the Hill” net. Down to practice some CW. Cleaned up and out with Kathy for some shopping in Shelbyville. Went to O’Reilly’s for spark plugs, stop at the bank for cash, Walmart for some sewing stuff for Kathy, Lowes for batteries, emery cloth and a plug for the receiver on the truck that someone stole. Stopped at Wendy’s for lunch. Home and put things away. Did some laundry, took a nap. Dinner and usual evening routine.
4/18/24 – Thursday – Up a little early today and cleaned up before breakfast. Made the “Over the Hill” net. Then down to get my hair cut. Up to Mike and Julie’s to pick up Carter’s tennis racket. Took that over to a place to have it re-strung and a new grip put on it. Then home. Hit a lot of traffic in the construction zone on 155. Got home, parked the truck then changed and out on the motorcycle. Over to Hooter’s for a little late lunch. Up to one of my watering holes for a short stay then home. Got gas on the way home. Didn’t get into the house till after the Zoom class started so I blew that off. Kathy was out spraying weeds. We chatted awhile then I went to the shack to do emails. Up for dinner. Then some chores around the house. Otherwise the usual evening routine.
4/19/24 – Friday – Up a little late and missed the “Over the Hill” net. Down to the shack and practice CW. Upstairs, cleaned up and out for some grocery shopping at Country Mart. Picked up some flowers for Kathy as she’s been treating me rather well the last few days. Home and put things away. Lunch. A nap. Down and some emails then my 3PM Zoom class. Up for dinner. Usual evening routine.
4/20/24 – Saturday – Up at the usual time. Did my weekly Saturday morning routine. Then down to the shack to practice CW. Up for lunch. Kathy wasn’t hungry so I ate alone and she was off shopping at Krogers. After lunch a short nap. Then downstairs to work some CW but found my HamClock was messed up. Spent a couple hours fixing that. Kathy came home and I helped her unload things and put things away. Spent a little time with the dogs then dinner. Usual evening routine.
Now the specifics:
Well the liberal bullshit finally hit the HAM radio hobby. Yep, I didn’t make the net much last week but apparently the liberals raised their ugly heads. The normal thing on Friday is what they call “Freaky Friday”. The first one to say “Don’t forget to go to church on Sunday” wins the award for the week. Not really an award just the comment that they get the golden medal for the week. Well, we have two clowns that are the intellects of the group. They apparently took exception to the practice and complained. So now there is no “Freaky Friday”. Of course the rest of us made it clear that we had our “Big Boy” pants on and whatever was decided was OK with us. Just ridiculous bullshit. Now I’m afraid that a couple of the very religious folks (One is a retired minister) will stop checking in. Yep, you just can’t get away from the crazy.
Went out to the Morton building to continue my efforts at getting the annual maintenance done on things. This week it was the Golf Cart. I knew I had a box up on the shelf with all the stuff (Air, oil and fuel filter and a spark plug) to do the maintenance. I looked all over and could not find it to save my soul. Even went up to the house and checked the garage up there thinking perhaps I relocated it for some reason since the Golf Cart is kept up there. But could not find it. Kathy was out and came home and we both looked. Then she asked something that made me look in my book where I keep a log of all the maintenance and sure enough I had done it in November last year. Damn, I could not remember doing it. That scared me a little.
Anyway, while I was out there I looked through my coax stash and found some LMR-400 coax that I’ll use for the UHF Yagi that I want to put on my TARPN node pointed toward Mike’s house. I brought that coax inside to put a connector on it. Now I just have to find someone to put it up on the roof for me. I’ll probably get frustrated waiting and do it myself.
Tuesday I did the yard work. Kathy had a woman’s group meeting so I got started in the morning. She came home and helped in the afternoon. Again, not a hard job. I must be getting in better shape.
Tuesday I re-ordered material to do the annual maintenance on the push mowers and the golf cart with the exception of the things I can get locally here. So Wednesday morning Kathy and I went out shopping and I picked up most of that stuff. So, when the order for the parts comes in I’ll have that all put away and ready for next year when I do the annual maintenance on things.
Thursday I was planning to ride the motorcycle. Yard work was done and the weather was ideal for riding all day. (Except I had to be back for my 3PM Zoom class). Well, Wednesday afternoon I get a call from Julie. Carter broke the strings on his tennis racket and was developing chest pain being forced to use his backup racket. She asked me to go up to the house, pick it up and take it to the place that re-strings them. So, when I got done with my hair cut I went up to their house, picked up the racket and took it over to the place that re-strings them. I didn’t get back home till almost noon. So, I changed clothes and headed out. Did some riding then stopped at Hooter’s for a late lunch. Went for a quick stop at one of my favorite watering holes and headed home. I forgot all about the construction on Taylorsville Lake road so I ended up coming back interstate 64 to Simpsonville exit then heading home. By now I know I’ll never make my 3PM Zoom class. So I stopped for gas on the way. Carter won his match on Thursday afternoon so I guess that makes it all worth while. And, the motorcycle behaved and worked perfectly so I think I’ve got that problem fixed.
Well that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
