Week Ending 5/11/24

Busy but not a bad week……………………………………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

5/5/24 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Home and lunch.  Computer work till time to go to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and picked up Kathy.  Over to Shelbyville to the Cracker Barrel for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

5/6/24 – Monday – Up a little early this morning.  Cleaned up and on the road to Richmond, KY.  Spent most of the day at the KY Division of Criminal Justice.  Got done around 1:30PM.  Headed home.  Got home around 3PM.  Had coffee and a snack.  Took a nap.  Up for dinner.  Out to seed the area outside the back door that Kathy wanted grass planted.  Inside and cleaned up.  Otherwise, usual evening routine.

5/7/24 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time and made the “Over the Hill” net.  Out to Country Mart for some shopping for dinner and lunch meat.  Stop at Autozone for a spark plug.  Home and got the crock pot started with Kielbasa, Hot Dogs and Sauerkraut for dinner.  Had lunch.  Tried the radio but bands were noisy with thunderstorms in the area.  So went upstairs for a nap.  Up and back to the shack.  Made a couple POTA contacts.  Up for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

5/8/24 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Made the “Over the Hill” net.  Kathy went to get her hair done.  I went to Shelbyville to the bank, Lowes and to pick up flowers I ordered for Kathy’s birthday.  Home and dropped things off and put the truck away.  Lunch.  Some chores then a nap.  Up and cleaned up and out to Jeff Ruby’s for Kathy’s birthday dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

5/9/24 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Made the “Over the Hill” net.  Kathy was up and out to do her volunteer thing at the VA.  I got cleaned up and took the truck down for servicing.  Finished up at the service center and went to Hooter’s for lunch.  A quick stop at one of my watering holes.  Home by a little after 1PM.  Let the dogs out and put some things away.  Checked the mail then a nap till Kathy got home.  Up and dinner.  Usual evening routine.

5/10/24 – Friday – Up a little early today.  Had to do some things for Kathy.  She had a bout of vertigo in the middle of the night so I got her the medication she needed.  Then cleaned up and out for my eye exam and to order glasses.  Exam and a new pair of glasses for less then $80.  Not bad.  Dropped off an item that was the wrong product I got from Amazon at the UPS office.  Got gas on the way home.  Kathy was doing better when I got home.  Spent the rest of the day taking care of her.  By dinner time she was feeling better.  Had warmed up left overs for dinner and the microwave crapped out in the middle of heating up my Sauerkraut.  So, after dinner I took it apart and found a bad fuse.  Out and stopped at the auto parts store for a fuse and to Lowes for a new microwave since the old one is around 7 years old to our best guess.  Got home and put the new fuse in the old microwave.  Fixed the fuse socket and sucked the dust out of it and it works great now.  Still put the new one on the counter and put the old one downstairs in the kitchenette down there.  Otherwise, usual evening routine.

5/11/24 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Spent some time on the computer till it warmed up outside.  Then out to do the yard work.  It was very wet and we had mud in places we never had issues before.  But we got it done.  Was out around 10:30 and back in around 3:30 with a break for lunch.  In, cleaned up and dinner.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Thought I’d start with something nice. With all this wet weather Kathy’s roses came out in full force. Looks really nice.

Monday I went to Richmond. KY to the Criminal Justice System training center. As part of my applying for the job of court security I have to go through the same thing as a cop in Kentucky with the exception of the physical fitness stuff. So, I already went for my finger prints. Haven’t heard anything back on that as they said I would but no one has been knocking at my door so I assume they didn’t find I had any wants or warrants outstanding. I went to pee in the cup for my drug test and again, no one has been knocking at my door so I assume that went well. My trip to Richmond was for a battery of tests. A total of three. The first was timed and no one would have gotten through that in my opinion. It was crap like “January, December, Wednesday, March and September”. Which one doesn’t belong. The second had two parts. First was an English language test. “Mundane and Monday” do they mean the same, the opposite or are they not related. Then the second was math. If John ran 1 mile in 60 minutes and Bobby did it in 70 minutes, how much further ahead of Bobby would John be after 2 miles. The third was 483 questions like “I’ve teased a dog” yes or no. They were all Yes No or True False. Stupid shit. I have no idea how that turned out. But I really felt sorry for some of the younger guys. These guys are looking for a career in law enforcement. If they could answer most of those math questions they would have been going to school for an engineering degree. Some of those poor kids could hardly follow the directions to take the test. I’m sure they didn’t do well. But, as the guy administering the test said, they only send feed back to the agency. It’s up to the agency to include all the other information and decide on the outcome. I just hope the best for them.

There was about a dozen of us taking the tests and only me and one other guy were the old guys. So it was more less obvious that we were not there to be cops. Anyway, he and i got together after the test and agreed that if there was going to be more of this crap it wasn’t worth the $15/hour. But here in Kentucky that a pretty high paying part time job.

It’s been fun and I’ll probably see it through. The only thing I think I have remaining is the polygraph test. They ask you questions like have you ever stolen from an employer, how much and when. I think it’s just to verify you are willing to tell the truth. Not to go back and nail you for stealing a pencil 40 years ago.

Wednesday was Kathy’s birthday. The day started with my giving her a card with a gift certificate of $300 at the place she gets her hair done. So off she went to do that. After she was gone I headed to Shelbyville and Flowers by Sharon where I order a bouquet and corsage for her. When I got home she was already back. She asked me what the corsage was for and I told her that we had dinner reservations at Jeff Ruby’s in Louisville for 5:45PM. She likes to get dressed up and go out so that’s what we did. I guess she was happy. Took her two days to post things on Facebook. So, who knows.

You know the old saying. To make a woman happy, wine her dine her, tell her how good she looks, etc, etc. How to make a man happy, show up nude and bring food. We’ll see how I make out next year. lol

Friday morning I got up to Kathy asking me to get her some medicine. Seems she had a bout of vertigo in the middle of the night. So I got her the Meclazine (SP) and she went back to bed. I headed over to Shelbyville for my eye exam and to order glasses. He said my eyes hadn’t changed and the cataracts had gotten a little worse but nothing to be concerned about. Perhaps in 2 or 3 years. So, got an exam and a pair of cheap glasses for less than $80. Not bad.

Friday evening I was heating up the left over Sauerkraut for over my mashed potatoes and the microwave crapped out. It was dead as a door nail. Tried resetting the power with no help. So, after dinner I took the cover off and sure enough, I found a bad fuse. It wasn’t blown but it was open. So, off to Lowes we went to buy a new one which I got for less than $300. 2cuft 1200watts with a 2 year extended warranty. Not bad. That military discount comes in handy some times. Just as a shot in the dark I stopped by the auto parts store and bought some 20Amp fuses. Got home and got ready to replace the fuse when I noticed one of the fuse clips was loose and what appeared to be some heating around it on the circuit board. So I tightened the fuse clip and replace the fuse. Works like a champ. So, now we have two good working microwaves. Damn I’m good. lol

Friday and Saturday we got a break for the rain so we did the yard work. It was still very wet and I managed to get the yard tractor stuck in a place I’ve never had problems before. Needless to say it was still very, very wet. But it was good we got it cut. Hopefully it won’t rain so much till we get a chance to cut it again.

Still working the CW stuff. Not getting the time to practice that I’d like but I am taking the zoom class on Fridays and checking into the CW traffic net. I’m improving slowly and I’ll keep at it.

As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
