Another rather busy week………………………………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
5/19/24 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy. Had lunch at church. Home and Kathy took off to do some things with Julie. I did the blog and took a 1/2 hour nap then up to see Gary. Home, picked up Kathy and got gas cans ready to fill. Down to Taylorsville for Chinese then over to Country Mart to get the two 5 gallon cans filled and top off the truck. Got 50 cents off per gallon so I only paid $2.69 a gallon. Home, put the truck and gas cans away. Got the stuff organized on the motorcycle and topped off the rear tire with air. I’ll check it in a couple days and see how well it holds. On Tuesday I’ll call and get them to order a new rear tire and schedule the maintenance. Otherwise, more work on the new laptop.
5/20/24 – Monday – Up at the usual time and made net. Then out to start yard work. Started around 9:30, took a break at noon for a half hour lunch and finished up around 2:30PM. Inside, cooled down, shower. Suppose to go to Carter’s band concert but they had a problem with the bleachers so we would have had to stand for more than an hour or take our own chair. We opted to not go. We had dinner and usual evening routine.
5/21/24 – Tuesday – Up a little late today and missed net. Kathy was up and out to get her car registration renewed but the clerks office was only open for election business as it was the primaries here in Kentucky. She did some shopping while out. Came home for a short period then off to her ladies group at church. I worked on the new laptop and got the last of the bugs worked out. Started cleaning things up. Had lunch while Kathy was gone. After she came home we took a nap. Up and dinner. Usual evening routine.
5/22/24 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time and made net. Kathy took off to do some shopping. I got cleaned up and out to the Morton building to inventory what I had to plug the hole in my motorcycle tire. Went to the auto parts store and bought some material. Came back and plug the tire again. Still leaking so put another plug in it and it seems to have sealed up. I’ll check the pressure in a couple days and decide if I’m going to ride it over to the repair shop or trailer it over. Also put some grass seed down in a bare area of the yard out back. Kathy was running late and not answering her phone so I went ahead and had lunch. She finally came home and we went out and did some work in the garden. Got it all cleaned out and ran the roto-tiller over it. Need some fertilizer to put down and I’ll till it again. Inside to clean up and some chores. Dinner and usual evening routine.
5/23/24 – Thursday – Up at the usual time and made net. Kathy was off for her volunteer gig at the VA. I got cleaned up and out in the truck to Shelbyville. Picked up my new glasses at Vision First, quick stop at the ATM for some cash, then to Lowes. Got a hose reel for Kathy, some fertilizer for the garden and a short hose to use at the Morton building. Then a stop at the nursery to ask advice of Gina. She gave me some more grass seed and some straw. Then into Taylorsville and some shopping at Country Mart. Home and put everything away. Had lunch and tended to the dogs. Downstairs and got my service request in at Moto Aria for the motorcycle. Got my SiriusXM re-instated. Called my friends Ron and Jim. Started cleaning up the downstairs till Kathy came home. She went for a nap then we got ready to go out for dinner. Tried Cattleman’s Steakhouse but it was very crowded. So we went for a quick bite at Wendy’s. Home and usual evening routine.
5/24/24 – Friday – Up at the usual time and made net. Got cleaned up and waited for my friend Rick to come over. We worked on his new/old radio he got at the Xenia hamfest. Has issues but we got it going somewhat. Kathy was off for an event at Shelby’s school with Julie. She got home shortly after lunch. Rick left and I had a bite to eat. Down to the shack and cleaned things up a little and then reloaded the operating system on my HAM latop and started reloading software. Everything is working much better now. Had dinner and usual evening routine.
5/25/24 – Saturday – Up at the usual time. Downstairs and finished up reloading the new/used laptop. Everything works and it’s ready to go. Kathy was out to go up and do Julie’s hair. She of course had to do some shopping on the way home. Told me she would be home for lunch but I had to wait till 1PM. Then down and started to cleanup the shack. Took a break to go outside for awhile. Setup Kathy’s new hose reel and put fertilizer down in the garden. Inside and found my TS3500 in alarm so I got data off of that and re-seated it. Still in alarm so I’ll let it out overnight. Had dinner then usual evening routine.
Now the particulars:
If you remember last week I had a flat tire on the motorcycle while eating lunch on Thursday. I had a chance to check the pressure Sunday and it was down to 10 pounds. I put air in the tire and wrote down the pressure number and waited till Wednesday. I checked it and it was leaking significantly. So, I went to the auto parts store and got some fresh plug material and the plug activator that you put on it. Came back and put a new plug in it and it was still leaking. So, I put a second plug in it that seemed to seal it rather well. I haven’t had time to check the pressure again this week but I’m sure it’s much better than it was. In the mean time I called Moto Aria on Tuesday and got a voice recording. I waited till Thursday and called again and got in touch with the owner. He asked me to put in a work request which I did. Now just waiting to hear from them. Hopefully they will tell me they have the tire and what day I can bring it in.
Monday we did yard work. Not a hard time. Took a little over 4 hours but that included putting down weed killer on the stuff growing up in the cracks in the concrete driveways.
We were suppose to go to Carter’s band concert Monday evening but Julie called and told us the bleachers where not working. They are the kind that gets rolled out from the wall in the gym for things like concerts, etc. So, we would have had to stand for over an hour and a half or carry a chair to sit on. We didn’t feel like doing either so we decided not to go.
Finished up loading the new laptop on Tuesday. It was finished but not perfect. So, Friday after my friend departed I reloaded a fresh copy of the updated operating system and then reloaded everything. All works great now. Glad I reloaded things.
Wednesday we started the garden work. We picked up the ground clothes that Kathy put down to control weeds and threw them away as they were in very bad condition. I roto-tilled it and got ready to put down the fertilizer. I got that on Thursday morning but didn’t get around to putting it down till Saturday. Then it was too wet to do anything else. But it’s suppose to rain Sunday and into early next week so that should settle the fertilizer into the ground. Kathy bought plants so as soon as it dries up a little, I’ll do the tiller thing and we can start planting.
Ran errands on Thursday. Picked up my new glasses, some things for Kathy and some groceries. Since we are going to travel in September and I got an offer for $5/month for SiriusXM I decided to re-new that. I hate playing their stupid game but I guess that’s part of life. It will be hell to cancel in May next year but at least we’ll have it for our trip.
My friend Rick went to the Xenia, OH Hamfest. It’s the largest hamfest in the nation. He bought an old Kenwood radio for $100 but couldn’t get it to work. He brought it over and I put new tubes in it. It would run some power but only about half of what it should. We did what we could to it while he was here but he needs to do some work on it.
Saturday my TS3500 time standard went into alarm. I copied all the information out of it in preparation to put the spare card I have for it in place. I tried re-seating it but it still alarmed. So, I pulled it out and let it set overnight and plugged it back in. It has come up so we’ll see how long it lasts.
Haven’t done anything with CW this week. Checked into a couple of the traffic nets and that’s it. I really do need to get back on that.
Well that’s about all the excitement for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
