A very busy week……………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
6/23/24 – Sunday – Still at field day. Knocked off around 3AM to take a nap in the truck. Up at 5AM. We had all our bonus points by 6AM so we decided to start tearing down. I was out of there by 7AM, home by 7:30, unloaded, breakfast, showered and in bed by 9AM. Up around 1PM and had a light lunch. Then started cleaning my stuff up. Kathy helped with some of the stuff then went for her nap. I continued working and got things back in shape. Then out to the Chinese restaurant for dinner. Home, did the blog and usual evening routine.
6/24/24 – Monday – Up at 6AM, ready and off to work. Learned where time sheets are and how they want them filled out. Then over to court and did the magnetometer where the judges, lawyers and their assistants come in. Court was over around lunch time. Came home and had lunch. Kathy took off for a doctor’s appointment and I went to the shack to work on some cables. Kathy came home with Shelby and we had dinner. Usual evening routine.
6/25/24 – Tuesday – Up at 6AM and off to work again. Spent the morning doing my pistol qualification. Back to the office around lunch and court was over so I was free the rest of the day. Home and took Kathy and Shelby out to McDonald’s for lunch. Home and some chores around the house. A nap late afternoon. Kathy was having issues getting some medicine so she was running around trying to fix that and took Shelby home in the mean time. I had a frozen TV dinner for supper. Usual evening routine.
6/26/24 – Wednesday – Up at 6AM and off to work again. Had a busy day. First was usual traffic court that ran way past lunch time. Then we had a 10 minute break and had to be back for a civil trial at 1PM followed by Grand Jury jurors orientation followed by Petit Jury Orientation. Finally got done around 4PM. Home and let the dogs out. Kathy was up to Julie’s helping take Chloe to dance then up to volunteer at the VA. I got the grill fired up and thawed out the hamburgers. Kathy got home around 5 or a little after. We ate then usual evening routine.
6/27/24 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Had to be there at 7:30 this morning. Worked till 4PM with an hour off for lunch. Went to a new Mexican restaurant with a couple co-workers. Home and had dinner. Usual evening routine.
6/28/24 – Friday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Had court from 9AM to 12:30PM. Home and lunch. Kathy had already started the yard work. I went out and we finished it up by a little after 4PM. Inside, cooled down, cleaned up. Did burgers and dogs on the grill. Usual evening routine.
6/29/24 – Saturday – Up at the usual weekend time (8AM). Breakfast, Saturday routine, cleaned up and out with Kathy to the post office. A stop at ACE hardware then a little ride around Taylorsville lake and we took a look at the golf course up there. Then to a new Mexican restaurant (Not new but new to us) for lunch. Great food and reasonable. stopped at the auto parts store on the way home for a switch to fit the motorcycle and new windshield wiper blades for the Vibe. Home and unloaded the truck. Put the new wiper blades on the Vibe. Inside and organized my closet to hold all my stuff for work. Helped Kathy get the laundry started. Down and put the easel together that I ordered. Up for a nap. Dinner and out to start opening the pool. In to cool down and usual evening routine.
Now the specifics:
Last weekend was field day as you all probably remember. I got some sleep around 3 or 4AM. We broke down early. Had all our bonus points and a good number for contacts by then. Spent most of the rest of Sunday and part of Monday afternoon cleaning things up and getting them back in order. Had to reconfigure my laptop to do digital modes with my QRP rig rather than the 7300. Ordered some cable and connectors and was able to put one cable together Monday. Still have a couple more I want to do.
My new job took most of the week. I’m still in training which means I shadow someone else or they just sit and watch me do the job. But I have a good trainer. She’s the K9 deputy for the county. But, she’s has a lot of background and is a wealth of information. I ended up working all day Wednesday and Thursday and 1/2 day Monday, Tuesday and Friday. It was an unusually busy week. Next week I will be off Monday and Thursday of course. I’ll need to go in at 8AM on Tuesday and probably be working Wednesday a half day. Don’t know what Friday will bring. But it’s an easy job and I’ve already gotten paid for the first Friday I worked. It’s enough for Kathy and I to go out to eat twice. So that’s all good. Not sure how this is going to impact taxes and Social Security. I need to look at that this week.
Shelby came to stay with us Monday evening. I had to work a half day Tuesday but came home in time to take them to McDonald’s for lunch. Shelby likes McDonald’s. Then Kathy took her home Tuesday evening.
Kathy got into some bad stuff while she was out cleaning up flower beds around some trees last week. Had to go to the dermatologist to get something for it. But they screwed around with getting her prescription to the pharmacy. So Julie wrote her a prescription for some stuff to hold her over. She finally got the stuff she was suppose to have and the symptoms are starting to subside. She still has patches of red stuff on her arms but I’m confident that will go away soon.
I worked a half day Friday and came home to find Kathy had already started the yard work. A very pleasant surprise. We had lunch and I went out to help and we finished up around 4PM. Not a great job but it’s done.
Saturday we got a chance to do some running around. The ham guys asked me to give a class on Winlink and the only place we have is really my house. So I ordered an easel and paper from Amazon. And of course they sent it USPS. I don’t think the guy that delivers out this way has enough room in his vehicle to deliver things like that so we went to the post office Saturday morning to pick that up. Then went to ACE Hardware to pick up some hooks to put in my closet to hang all my work stuff and get it out of the way. Put a tray with my miscellaneous stuff. All neat and well organized now.
Didn’t have time to do much of anything else this week. Have some plans for this coming week and things should settle down for awhile. At least until I have to go to the academy. I can work for a year but then have to go to the Criminal Justice Center in Richmond, KY for a two week school. That should be fun. I saw the dorm facilities and they are beautiful. And the class rooms are state of the art. Thus far everyone I’ve met is very knowledgeable and very great to work with. But that will probably not be till after the beginning of the year.
In the mean time, I plan to do some riding tomorrow morning and I need to do some work on the repeater tomorrow afternoon. Should have time to play with CW again. I hope anyway.
Well I think that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
