Week Ending 7/27/24

A very busy week again…………………………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

7/21/24 – Sunday – Up at the usual time, cleaned up and out to church with Kathy. It was a short service as the pastor was off and we can’t have communion without a pastor. We had a short business meeting after church service then a pot luck lunch. Got done there, came home and dropped things off then into J-town and the Masonic lodge for HAM testing. Kathy came with me because when I was done there I was going on over to the Dixie Highway to the viewing for Mike’s (My HAM buddy) mother. She passed away this past week. Then back to Walmart on Shelbyville road for some shopping. Then up to Bob Evan’s for dinner. Back down and a stop at Country Mart for some things. Home and unloaded the truck. Put that away and inside for some strawberries for dessert. Down to do the blog, get ready for work tomorrow and to bed.

7/22/24 – Monday – Up at 6AM and out to work. Worked the handicap entrance to the main court house today. Court finished up around noon. Went to the office and logged my time. Home and had lunch. Kathy hasn’t been feeling well so she took a COVID test and it was negative. I fought with the computer systems to get a podiatry appointment. Then we took a nap. Up and played radio awhile. Then dinner. Usual evening routine.

7/23/24 – Tuesday – Up at 6AM and out to work. Finished up around 12:30. Home and changed. Then took Kathy into J-town to Craft pizza for lunch. Over to Kroger for my prescriptions. Then up to Julie’s to pick up Shelby to stay the night. But Shelby was in bed and didn’t want to come. A wasted trip. Won’t do that again. Home and had dessert. Then down to the shack to copy some CW. Out to put the solar cover on the pool. Inside for a nap. Dinner then usual evening routine.

7/24/24 – Wednesday – Up at 6AM and out to work. Started at 8:30AM. Morning court session ended shortly after noon and we had to be back at 20 till 1. So, we made a run to Country Mart and got our meals to go and ate them in the court room. Finished up a few minutes before 2PM. Home, dressed down, let the dogs out and went to bed. Kathy was up watching Shelby for the day. I got up around 5PM and Kathy got home shortly after. We had dinner then downstairs and usual evening routine.

7/25/24 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and out to work. Started at 7:30 this morning. Worked the door at the clerks office. Got an hour off for lunch and got off at 4PM. Home and dressed down. Had a snack then dinner. Usual evening routine.

7/26/24 – Friday – Up at 6AM and out to work. Started at 8AM this morning. Court ran till 1PM. Home, a quick bite to eat for lunch. Kathy started the yard work around 10 this morning so I was out to help her finish up. Wrapped up around 4PM and got a call from the Rice family inviting us to join them at Olive Garden. So, inside, cleaned up and out to Olive Garden. After dinner Kathy went with them to a semi-pro soccer game. I came home, did some domestic chores, had dessert, some computer work and to bed.

7/27/24 – Saturday – Up late this morning. Had alarm set for 8 but didn’t get out to breakfast till 9AM. After breakfast went over and mixed up some grass and weed killer in the big sprayer. Sprayed around various areas of the yard. Then inside and cleaned up. Kathy and I went to Shelbyville, had lunch at Arby’s then to Lowes for pick up some things. Need to make a couple benches for the two grand daughters. They need a place to put their plants. So bought the wood, got some paint and screws. Should have everything I need. Home and put things away. Downstairs for some computer work. Up and dinner. Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

A left over from last week, if you didn’t read the comments from last week you might want to do that. Lynn explained what she is doing to recover from the storm that went through her part of Texas. Also noted her sister has some new medical issues. Not sure what that’s about so I guess I should call later this week.

Last Sunday was rather busy and I’m not sure the chronology is clear about what happened.

First on the agenda was church. It was the day for the quarterly business meeting. They usually have that after church service and they try to put together a pot luck lunch at the same time. So Kathy was busy getting things ready for that. She made the salad and did some other things. Our pastor was not there so the actual service was short as there are a lot of things that you can’t do without the past in the Lutheran church. There was a lot of food left over so we had to bring that back to the house after lunch.

Then I had HAM testing in J-town at the Masonic lodge. After that I was going to go over to the Dixie Highway to a funeral home for a viewing. My HAM friend Mike’s mother passed away last week and the viewing was Sunday. That’s on the other side of J-town from where we live. Kathy wanted to go to the viewing as well so she went along with me for HAM testing and read while we did the testing. Only one person so it didn’t take long. Then we went on over to the viewing to pay our respects.

We got out of there rather early so we went to Walmart and did some shopping up in Middletown then on up the Gene Snyder to Westport road and to Bob Evans for dinner. The rest you can read in the chronology.

Since I’m on my feet more these days I have been experiencing some discomfort in my feet. That plus I’ve never had them checked out since I got out of the military, I decided it might be a good idea. So I tried to call the Podiatrist I wanted and couldn’t get through to anyone. So I got online and ended up making two appointments. That didn’t bother me as I planned to make the earlier of the two and could just cancel the second one when I got there. But low and behold, I got a call back from them and of course the website was all screwed up and I didn’t have the right time anyway so the girl on the phone was nice enough to get the scheduled for me. That will be on Monday in 2 weeks. I’ll keep you posted on that.

We went out to run some errands and while we were out decided to go up and pick up Shelby to come stay with us. Of course she was sleeping and didn’t feel like it. Well that’s last time I go out of my way for her.

Work was busy this week. I think they are still catching up from the 4th of July week when they didn’t have any court. Anyway, we had court every day this week and I think I’m on the schedule to routinely handle the door to the circuit court clerk’s office every Thursday. So I ended up working a half day Monday, Tuesday and Friday, A full day (7:30 to 4) on Thursday and almost a full day Wednesday. But next week looks much better. Only have court Tuesday and I’ll work the door to the clerk’s office Thursday.

Did the yard work Friday. Kathy started it around 10AM. I got home a little after 1PM, had lunch and then we both went out to finish it up. Got it all done by 4PM. The Rice family called and invited us out to dinner at Olive Garden so we got cleaned up and went up there. They were all going to a soccer game afterward so Kathy went with them and I came home.

I’ve been trying to catch up on my CW skills as we are having a club event on the 10th next month. It’s the KY POTA event and they want me to run CW. So that should be fun.

I did some shopping at Lowes this week. Both grand daughters are into plants and Julie asked me to build them both a stand that they can put under the window to put their plants on. So, I probably spent more money for wood and paint then I would have if I had just bought the damn things. But they wanted Pappy to make it for them so that’s what I’ll be spending time on this coming week.

I think that’s it for this week. Sorry for the confusing post but I’m just not sure how to make it any better. Anyway, as always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. The bad outcome from the hurricane and rain…MOSQUITOES! They are HORRIBLE here. Spraying by airplane and truck. Now awaiting the storm headed for Florida and where it will actually hit! A never ending battle this time of year. Seems like always cleaning up in Texas or Florida. Ugh!!

Hope the new job is going well. Sounds like you are keeping busy. We will talk soon.
