Happy Thanksgiving………………………………………………………..
As always, first the chronology:
11/24/24 – Sunday – Up at the usual time and out to church with Kathy. Had lunch at chruch. Home and did the blog then off to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Home, picked up Kathy and up to the Long Horn Steakhouse to have dinner with the Rice family. Home, put things away and usual evening routine.
11/25/24 – Monday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Worked the door from 7:30AM to 4PM with an hour off for lunch. Home and had dinner. Usual evening routine.
11/26/24 – Tuesday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Opened the court room at 8AM and the Judge was done by 10AM. Had a conference with co-workers about schedule next week. Looks like it’s going to be busy. Then home, had a short nap then lunch. Out to fix the screen on the fake door to the deck. In for a coffee break and back out to bring the pump and filter for the pool into the Morton building. Inside and another nap till dinner. Had Chile and Corn Bread for dinner. Fantastic. Down to the shack and usual evening routine.
11/27/24 – Wednesday – Up around 8AM. Kathy was off to get the grand kids and take the girls to get their hair done. I got cleaned up and Kathy brought Carter over. We talked and started a game of Cribbage when I got a call that I could go get my hair cut. So Carter and I went down, got my hair cut and hung out till the girls where done. Then we all went to Subway for lunch. Kathy took the grand kids home and I came home and started doing some cleanup in the shack. Kathy came home and went to bed for a nap. I continued my efforts in the shack. She got up and we had dinner. She started baking things for tomorrow and I gathered things to help Nick with the net tonight. Otherwise, usual evening routine.
11/28/24 – Thursday – Up around 9AM. Got cleaned up and helped Kathy with the final touches on the things she was preparing to take to Mike and Julie’s. On the road by around 1:00PM. Got to Mike and Julie’s and started helping with the preparations. Dee and her husband Pablo came over along with a doctor friend of Julie’s from the VA. We all had a good time eating and chatting. The doctor had to leave to make another appointment around 4:30PM. Dee and Pablo took off around 5:30. Kathy helped Julie with some of the clean up and we were on the road back home by 6:30. Unloaded the car and had dessert. Then bed, pills and sleep.
11/29/24 – Friday – Up around 9AM. Had breakfast and looked at my grandson’s laptop. Narrowed the problem down to a bad wall wart or the power jack on the mother board. Got prices and will wait to see what Julie wants to do. Had lunch then shut the water off to the Morton Building and drained the pipes. Moved things off the UPS that crapped out and got that all running again. Will pull the good batteries out of the UPS and throw the UPS away. It’s over 15 years old so not worth fixing. Had dinner. Helped Kathy put up the Christmas Tree in the family room. Otherwise usual evening routine.
11/30/24 – Saturday – Up around 9AM. Did my Saturday morning routine. Got cleaned up and out with Kathy to Shelbyville. Stopped at Harbor Freight for batteries then to Wendy’s for lunch. Into Taylorsville and some shopping at Country Mart. Stopped for gas on the way home. Put things away and had a snack. Then a nap till dinner. Usual evening routine.
Now the particulars:
Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. We did the usual thing of cooking all kinds of things then loading them in the car on Thursday around noon and hauling it all up to the Rice residence. We were suppose to eat at 2PM but the doctor from the VA that Julie invited came a little late. Anyway, it was Kathy and me, Mike, Julie and the three kids. Then Dee and her husband Pablo came. And of course the doctor from the VA. It was a good time. Had lots to eat and a lot of left overs. Never will figure out this holiday.
Kathy and I were on our way up to the Long Horn Steakhouse for dinner on Sunday and I stupidly blurted out “Why don’t you see what Mike, Julie and the kids are doing.” Not thinking she would actually do that. But she did and they decided to join us. So I respectfully picked up the tab. That is two Sundays in a row that we bought. I’m hoping they will feel guilty and invite us somewhere tonight.
Tuesday only worked a couple hours so I was home for lunch. Got a screen fixed that had blown off the back door to the deck. Since it’s suppose to get colder I decided we should get the pump and filter for the pool in the Morton building. Still haven’t addressed the leak. I guess we will deal with that in the spring.
Got my friend Nick to agree to take over the Wednesday night net on the 4th Wednesday of the month in place of me. I’ve been doing it for several year now and it’s time for some new blood. He came over to the house this week and ran it from here. Next month he’ll be on his own and doing it from his house. He’ll be good at it once he settles down.
While at Julie’s Thursday, I was given a laptop of Carter that no longer worked. It’s got issues with power. The problem is either a bad plug on the wall wart or a bad jack on the computer. I took it apart and the jack is physically a part of the mother board so I’d have to change that. The wall wart is about $30 and the mother board for that machine is around $60. Julie will have to decide what she wants to do.
I had a problem with a UPS. A couple days after we had a power outage for about a half hour the UPS crapped in it’s pants. Batteries were down to 0% capacity so it shut down. I bought a new set of batteries and they got drained even though we didn’t have any power outage. I looked at the manufactures date on the inside and it’s over 15 year old so probably not worth repairing. I asked for a new one from Santa Claus. They only cost a couple hundred. In the mean time I got everything over on a power strip and I’ll just hope we don’t have another power outage till I get the replacement.
Saturday we ran errands. Got some discontinued AA batteries at Harbor Freight for all Kathy’s Christmas lights. Got them in 24 packs for $1.99 a pack. So if you need AA batteries that you plan to use for the holidays then throw away, those are a deal.
Only worked two days this week. Monday I worked 7.5 hours on the door. Tuesday I went in for court and the Judge got things over in 2 hours. So, I’ve had a 5 day vacation. I’ll go back for 1/2 day Monday next week. I’m splitting the day with the guy that had the surgery a couple weeks ago. Then the rest of the week we are busy every day with normal court and two trials. I have a doctor’s appointment Thursday afternoon. I’ll see Monday if I’m going to cancel that.
Well, that’s about it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
