Week Ending 01/11/25

A rather snowy time in Kentucky……. Not the usual for this area…………………..

As always, first the chronology:

01/05/24 – Sunday – Up around 8:30. We heard last night that church was canceled. Spent most of the day watching the weather and hearing what was happening. Did some organization of things and brought my Allstar Node up to Kathy’s desk again. Otherwise, usual evening routine.

01/06/24 – Monday – Up at 7:30. Had a televisit with the pain management lady. Then chores. Up for lunch and a short nap. Out and took the mower deck off the lawn tractor and put the snow blade on it along with chains. Too much ice for it to work. So back inside and laid down to rest from all that work. Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

01/07/24 – Tuesday – Up around 9AM. Had breakfast, cleaned up and managed to get the truck out of the driveway. Low range four wheel drive and it just worked it’s way up the hill. Went to the bank, dropped off some wood to Gary. Had lunch at Arby’s then to Kroger for some shopping. Home and put everything away. Counted coins and put them in wrappers. Took a nap then dinner and usual evening routine.

01/08/24 – Wednesday – Up at 6AM and into work. Manned the Handicap entrance to the main court room from 8AM to 3:30PM. Home and a nap. Then a late dinner. Usual evening routine.

01/09/24 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and into work. Manned the door to the Circuit Court Clerk’s office from 7:30AM to 4PM. Home and dinner. Usual evening routine.

01/10/24 – Friday – Up around 8AM. Kathy had to take Bella to the groomers this morning. She came home and we took a nap till she had to go pick Bella up. Lunch then down to do a class on IT security. Did some research on Jupyter. Dinner and usual evening routine.

01/11/24 – Saturday – Up around 8:30AM. Did the usual Saturday morning routine. Then out and started work on the front sidewalk. Got it all cleared off then in for lunch. Back out and cleared out the area for the mail box and got all the snow and ice off the Vibe. That was all I could manage to get done. Came in and took a rest, then a shower and dinner. Usual evening routine.

Now the particulars:

It hasn’t really snowed more than a couple times since we’ve been here. First time was the year we came down and I was still recuperating from the motorcycle accident so Kathy had to do all the work. Another time we got a dusting that I cleared easily with the snow plow on the lawn tractor. Otherwise it was just a dusting here and there that was gone within 24 hours. This week we made up for it. It snowed last Saturday into Sunday. Approximately 4 to 6 inches of snow then another inch of freezing rain and sleet followed by another 3 to 4 inches of snow. Another event hit us Friday into Saturday with another 3 or 4 inches of snow. People here are really ignorant when it comes to dealing with this stuff. No one but the state road maintenance guys had a clue but everyone was posting on facebook what you should and shouldn’t be doing. It was rather comical.

Needless to say, everything was shutdown around here. Monday Kathy and I went out and pulled the mower deck off the lawn tractor and put the snow plow and chains on the rear wheels. I started out of the Morton building and as soon as it hit the ice the blade tilted over and it didn’t plow anything. So, the ice was too much for the little guy.

By Tuesday we had cabin fever so we got ready and went over to the Morton building, got in the truck, put it in 4 wheel drive low range and just walked it up the driveway with no problems. As my son said “Aren’t those Silverado trucks great”. And indeed it is. I have had no problem getting anywhere.

We did some shopping while out so I brought the truck in the driveway at the house. It had no problem and since the wife’s car is a AWD it had no problem as well.

I had two doctor’s appointments scheduled for Monday. My pain and spine management appointment was scheduled for 7:30AM Monday and my Cardiology appointment was scheduled for 11AM. They canceled both for in office visits. Monday morning I sat at the table with my ipad and had my appointment with Kelsy O’Mara sitting in her house in her bath robe. It was good. Got a lot done. Have some direction and I’ll see her in person, hopefully, in a couple months. The Cardiology appointment was originally scheduled for April but they called later this week and moved it up to a couple weeks from now. So that’s all good.

While we were out on Tuesday we went by the bank to drop off a quart jar full of coins to have counted and deposited in my checking account. Guess what? They don’t count them for you anymore. They have to be wrapped. I think that’s rather foolish on their part. How many coins short do you think I could get away with on all those wrappers? Anyway, Kathy and I wrapped them all Tuesday and I have a little over a hundred dollars worth of coins to turn in.

I worked Wednesday and Thursday. I was scheduled to work Friday but my friend Scott didn’t get any time in the last two weeks because they were always closed the days he was suppose to work. So I gave him my Friday so he could make some money.

Tried bringing my AllStar node back upstairs to put under Kathy’s desk but it was getting errors. So I moved it back to my office and put it on a high book shelf in the middle of the room. So far it has been running OK. Another week of good results and I’ll put it back online.

Friday I spent the day taking an IT Security class for work and getting Jupyter notebook working on my new laptop. The security class was for all the confidential systems we have to get into for warrants and arrest records and that sort of thing. So if any of you are worried, your less than perfect background is safe with me. lol And I’m getting back into doing some programming with Python and the best IDE to write that code with is Jupyter notebook. So that’s all good.

Then Saturday I had some grandiose plans to get the snow cleaned up around the house. Well, I got the walkway from the driveway to the house cleaned off. I got an area cleaned out in front of the mail box and I got the snow and ice off the Vibe. I also managed to fuck up my back. I was worried about over doing it and I was taking frequent breaks but I guess too much was too much. So, I am now spending the days with Tylenol every 4 hours, heating pad and exercises. This too shall pass.

So that has been my exciting week. As always, I hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way. Please pray for all the poor souls in southern California. That is such a sad situation. And I’ll blog at you again next week.
