Week Ending 04/26/25

Another sorta laid back week but still very busy…………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

04/20/25 – Sunday – Up around 7AM. Helped Kathy get the potatoes ready for the scalloped potatoes she was making to take to Julies. Then cleaned up and out to church. Home, loaded the car and headed up to Mike and Julies. Had a great late lunch up there. Got some leftovers and headed home. Did my PT exercises plus 1/2 mile on the treadmill. Had a snack for dinner then usual evening routine.

04/21/25 – Monday – Out shopping. Stopped at Bob Evans for some lunch first then to Homedepot for a battery for Kathy’s string trimmer and hedge trimmer. Back to Shelbyville and John Deere to get parts to do the maintenance on Kathy’s lawn mower. Also got a date scheduled to drop the D170 off. It is blowing oil so I suspect the same gasket is blown as last time. Then to Rural King to pick up a push mower that was on sale for $199. Kathy got some plants. Then to Harbor Freight to pick up some gas cans and some gloves. Home, dinner and usual evening routine.

04/22/25 – Tuesday worked most of the day in the Morton building putting the lawn mower together and getting gas cans painted. Went for my haircut in the afternoon. Usual evening routine.

04/23/25 – Wednesday – Continued work in the Morton building. Went out for dinner to the Chinese Restaurant. Otherwise usual evening routine.

04/24/25 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and into work. Worked the door from 7:30 to 4PM. Home, had dinner and usual evening routine.

04/25/25 – Friday – Up at 6AM and into work. Manned the door from 7:30AM to Noon. Then home. Kathy was out shopping. Waitied till she got home and had lunch. Changed clothes and took a little nap. Then out for physical therapy. Home and dinner. Usual evening routine.

04/26/25 – Saturday – Up very late, I guess around 10AM. I remember waking up at 7:30 and no one was stirring so I went to the bathroom and then back to bed. Rusty came in to say good morning but that’s about all I remember till 10AM. Up and did my Saturday morning routine. Then some chores around the house. Had lunch then downstairs to walk the treadmill. Worked on a fan for Kathy that she got from the animal shelter.

Now the specifics:

Spent a lot of time getting things done that I should have been doing this winter. I haven’t tried to get either of the push mowers running this year but they are both in bad shape. Saw one on sale at Rural King for $200 so went over an picked it up. It will do fine for the trimming we use it for. In the mean time, we did try mowing the lawn but my D170 started blowing oil again. I assume it is the same gasket that blew the last time. I got some prices on mowers when we were over at John Deere so we’ll see what I’m going to do when I get the estimate on the repairs.

In the mean time, I got new gas cans to put the 0% ethanol gas in. My hope is that it won’t do as much damage to the equipment as the regular unleaded gas does. I put the new string trimmer together I got on sale last fall at Lowes and will use the 0% ethanol in all the two cycle powered stuff as well as the small push mowers, the pressure washer and the portable generator. Hopefully that will save me some grief with the small engine stuff.

I have been making progress with the physical therapy. They have been pushing me rather hard to meet my objectives for June. I am now able to kneel and get up without assistance on two 2″ thick sponge rubber pads. My hope is to be able to get down to none by the end of this week then work on stamina until I go back to the academy in June.

We have some new guys at work that are now able to work by themselves. That’s a good thing. I only worked one full day and a half day this week. It’s really a great relief to say the least. My friend Donald that hired on at the same time I did managed to complete his school these last two weeks. That will be good when he gets back next week.

Other than that not a lot happening. As always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. Sorry I have been delinquent in commenting. Been really busy here in Florida with all the yard and other outside work. Raking, trimming, mowing, cleaning outside ornamental decor, etc. Only thing left now is pressure washing the houses, carports, porches and pool/decking/ screen enclosure.Been REALLY dry and dusty here. Down at least 5 inches of rain.

My other projects…(1) selling off the collectible items my sister had and turning the room into a TV/sitting room. (2) bought my great-nieces a playset from Sam’s Club. Now I need to play construction person and put it together. I’ve never seen so many parts! Reviews said it takes between 10-14 hours for assembly! Oh what fun!
