Week Ending 5/31/25

A rather ordinary week……………………………………………

As always, first the chronology:

5/25/25 – Sunday – Up at 8AM and out to church with Kathy. Had lunch at church. Home and did the blog then out to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Home, picked up Kathy and out to Applebee’s for dinner. Home and usual evening routine.

5/26/25 – Monday – Up at 8AM. Helped Kathy get things organized for lunch. Mike, Julie, Chloe, Shelby and Christine came over. Did burgers and dogs on the grill. Everyone was gone by 3PM. Took a nap. Had a snack for dinner then usual evening routine.

5/27/25 – Tuesday – Up at 7AM. Kathy was off to help at the animal shelter this morning. I got cleaned up and over to Lowes in Shelbyville to get the price on a new lawn tractor figured out. Then over to the John Deere dealer to check on my D-170. They claim it needs a new motor. I said that’s not going to happen. So I went to the sales guy we deal with over there and he gave me a better price on the lawn tractor I want. Stopped at Arby’s for an early lunch then went to Physical Therapy. Home and had desert while I waited for Kathy. She came home and we took a nap. Up for dinner. Usual evening routine.

5/28/25 – Wednesday – Up at 8AM. Got the finances arranged and chatted with Kathy. Then over to the John Deere dealer and bought the new mower. Should be delivered next week. Home and lunch. Chores this afternoon, dinner then usual evening routine.

5/29/25 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Worked the Circuit Court Clerks office from 7:30AM to 4PM with an hour break for lunch. Home and Kathy brought Shelby over. Spent time with Shelby then dinner and usual evening routine.

5/30/25 – Friday – Up at 8AM. Did some chores around the house and got cleaned up. The Terminex guy came to check the house and all is well. Then went down to McDonalds to have lunch with Kathy and Shelby. Home and spent some time with Shelby. Took a nap. Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

5/31/25 – Saturday – Up at 8AM. Did some chores around the house. Scott came over with my trailer he borrowed. Spent most of the day getting my QRP rig working on FT-8 again for our club’s POTA event Monday evening. Otherwise, usual evening routine.

Now the particulars:

Happy Memorial Day. We had the normal celebration here this year with burgers and dogs on the grill. Even splurged and put a new propane tank on the grill. I need to check the three tanks I have in the Morton building and see if they are all in date then take the good ones to our propane dealer and get them filled.

I did some research on lawn tractors. Seems the reviews still rate John Deere very high. So I looked for the cheapest John Deere that had a wide mower deck and decided on the S180 with a 54 inch deck. They have them at Lowes so I went over there and checked there price and even with my military discount I got it cheaper by about $100 at the John Deere Dealer. So I got the finances all squared away and went over on Wednesday and bought it. They didn’t have one at the Shelbyville place that I shop at so he was going to get me one from Bardstown. I got a call later this week that he had it and planned to deliver it Tuesday. I’ll go over Monday and get the D170 and take it to a few places for repair estimates. In the mean time the heat is off with getting the S180.

Tuesday I had my last PT session. I’m going to continue with exercises this week then give it a break next weekend before I go back to the academy. Hope it works well this time. I’ll keep you posted.

Thursday was the only day I worked this week. I was scheduled for Thursday on the door as usual then court on Friday but the case was settled out of court. That was fine by me.

Kathy was doing a lot of volunteer work this week. The gal that runs the animal shelter was on vacation so Kathy made an effort to go down and help this week. Thursday when coming home from the VA she brought Shelby to the house so she could go have fun with the animals on Friday. It’s always a pleasure having any of the grand kids staying over. Of course I think the twins are out of the stage. Monday was an example with Carter getting a better offer to go out on the river for the day with a friend which I’m sure was much more fun then coming over here and probably playing Cribbage with Grandpa.

Saturday I spent most of the day getting my QRP rig working with my Linux computer so I can do a little FT-8 at the park on Monday night this coming week. I hope to get my 10 contacts with FT-8 so I can activate the park with my call, then perhaps get some CW work done. All depends on how many people show up. More on that later.

Yes we did have tornadoes in Kentucky again this week. Fortunately for us they were all in the western part of the state. We got some rain as the storm moved across the state but not even any high winds to amount to anything. But thanks to all who check on us. They did get some tornadoes touch down in Bradford County in PA near Pittsburgh. So we had to make some phone calls to make sure all our friends and relatives in PA were OK.

My friend Jim from central PA went down to Rolling Thunder again this year. He said it was a rather sad turnout. What used to be an event that filled two of the Pentagon parking lots is now down to a few hundred riders. However, it seems to be coming back slowly. I rather doubt it will be what it was when I was down to ride.

OK, well that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
