Week Ending 08/09/25

An interesting week…………………………………………………………………

As always, first the chronology:

8/3/25 – Sunday – Kathy had a bad night so we didn’t go to church. Instead she went to the Emergent care facility in Taylorsville. I did some work around the house. After she got back we had lunch. I got cleaned up and went to Kroger to pick up a prescription for Kathy then over to visit Gary. Home and picked up Kathy and over to Taylorsville to the Chinese restaurant for dinner. Stopped at Country Mart for some groceries on the way home. Usual evening routine.

8/4/25 – Monday – Up late this morning. Trying to let Kathy sleep as long as possible. Kathy called her dermatologist since this stuff is spreading. We had some lunch and I got cleaned up. Then we went over to Lowes to get the carpet Kathy wanted. home, unloaded the carpet and put the truck away. Then worked on getting my stuff in shape for the KY POTA event this Saturday. Took a break for dinner, did some finishing up then usual evening routine.

8/5/25 – Tuesday – Spent the day trying to be quiet and checking on Kathy. Her medication from the dermatologist came in at Kroger so we went in there and picked that up late afternoon. Then to the Mexican restaurant for dinner. Home and usual evening routine.

8/6/25 – Wednesday – Up at 6AM, cleaned up and off to work. Manned the handicap entrance to the main court house from 8AM to around 4:30PM with a good hour off for lunch. Home and got changed. Had dinner and usual evening routine.

8/7/25 – Thursday – Up at 5:30AM. Cleaned up and into work. Checked in at the Circuit Court Clerks office. Gary Day came in to relieve me around 7:45. I went over to the EMS training center for my CPR/First Aid training. Back over to the Circuit Court Clerks office and relieved Gary. Finished my shift there. Home a nap, dinner and bed.

8/8/25 – Friday – Up around 8AM. Kathy went over to pick up the grand kids and go clean the church. Then to Subway for lunch. I did computer work (updates/backups) and took an online blood borne pathogens course. Kathy and the grand kids came home mid afternoon. Carter helped me load the stuff for tomorrow in the truck. The kids and Kathy started playing games while I took a nap. Kathy took the kids home and picked up Jimmy John’s for dinner. We had dinner and then the usual evening routine.

8/9/25 – Saturday – Up at 7AM. Ready and out to Taylorsville State Park. Setup my new canopy and my radio gear and started playing POTA (Parks On the Air). This is an annual event sponsored by Murray State University. Quit about 1PM and packed up. Home by about 1:30PM. Had a pint of chocolate ice cream for lunch then started unpacking the truck. Finished up and was inside for a nap by a little after 2. Kathy had gone up to help Julie with some things and didn’t get back till around 4PM. I got up and we had dinner. Then usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Apparently Kathy came in contact with some Chiggers in the yard sometime Thursday. It’s hard to tell were she got into them. She was spraying weeds and about the same time they were mowing our field. So it’s hard to tell where she came in contact with them. The result was that she could not get a good nights sleep starting last Saturday night from the itching. So, Sunday morning she went to the local urgent care facility we have in town and got the diagnosis. We did some reading and it indicated that they wouldn’t spread and Monday it was getting worse. So she made an appointment with the dermatologist and it was confirmed. So the dermatologist gave he some additional stuff and things seem to subside bye Wednesday. These are not fun things to come in contact with.

I worked Wednesday and Thursday this week. Both were long days. Thursday I had CPR and First Aid training by the local EMS folks. They seem extremely down to earth in their approach to things. I enjoyed the training and it brought back a lot of memories.

Thursday was also the first day of school here in Spencer County. Since I have to drive past the High School here to get to work I thought I should get up a little early. But I had no problem. I guess they plan things well around here.

As I said, they mowed our field last week. They raked and bailed it this week. I think they got three bails out of it. Not a lot but enough to keep them coming to mow it for us. I’ll get pictures next week when they pick up the bails.

Carter helped me load the truck on Friday in preparation for my POTA outing. That was much appreciated as the 100AH battery I use is rather heavy. He drove the truck over from the Morton Building and around to the back of the house then back to the Morton Building. He did a great job. Not so good at backing it into the Morton Building but that just takes a little practice. I wouldn’t have a problem letting him borrow the truck after he gets his license if it needs it for something.

The POTA outing was a bust as it usually is. I have no idea how they expect stations to talk from one park to another in the state when all the bands are long. I got a lot of contacts out west but nothing in Kentucky. Anyways, we had some fun and did some playing. That’s all good.

Well that is the excitement in Kentucky for this week. As always, hope this finds you safe and well. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
