I am glad to be home……………………………………………………………………..
As always, first the chronology:
8/31/25 – Sunday – Continued to spend my time in the hospital
9/1/25 – Monday – Continued to spend my time in the hospital.
9/2/25 – Tuesday – Still in the hospital but got cardo-verted. Was discharged around 1:30.
9/3/25 – Wednesday – Spent the day enjoying the freedom of not being tied to a bunch of instruments. Took a long shower and started to move around slowly. Made follow up appointments with other doctors I deal with. Also got a follow up appointment with the heart rythmn specialist.
9/4/25 – Thursday – Tried to move around more. Started back on some easy exercise to get me toned up a little after laying in bed for 4 days.
9/5/25 – Friday – Got up around 8AM. Breakfast and cleaned up. Kathy rode with me in the Vibe as a test run. We went to the bank so I could get cash for the Hamfest this weekend. Then ran some errands for Julie and the kids. Took some goodies up to the hospital as a thank you. Then to Olive Garden for lunch. Back home and Kathy wanted to do some mowing so I went out with her and helped a little. Then she told me to come in and it was about time. Had dinner and usual evening routine.
9/6/25 – Saturday – Up at 6AM and out to the Greater Louisville Hamfest. I helped test people for their HAM license and upgrades from 8AM to 10AM. Then out to the floor with all the goodies. I happened by a bunch of guys from the HAM club. One had questions and others just wanted to chat. Then started looking around. Jannel Swigert yelled at me as I was walking past her booth and made me buy some pot scrubbers from her for $5. Found some crystals that people hardly ever use and the guy sold 6 of them to me for $10. Then outside and few vendors. I think the threat of rain scared them away. Got in the truck and headed home around 11AM. Home, unloaded things and lunch. A nap with Kathy. Down to the shack to do some computer work. Up for dinner and usual evening routine.
Now the particulars:
In retrospect I’ve concluded it is very bad to have a medical problem right before a holiday weekend. They kept jacking around with various medications to get me out of A-fib and nothing worked. I believe that was just a ploy to make me think they were doing something for me till Tuesday when the Cath. Lab was open. They took me down first thing in the morning, shocked me a couple times and I was better. And that afternoon I was out of the hospital. I do believe if things had happened say Monday or Tuesday, I would have only been in the hospital a couple days. Live and learn.
Laying around on your back for 4 days hooked up to telemetry and an IV pole was miserable. I could not believe how much my muscles had weakened in that time. The food was good but it was portioned out so I don’t think it was from over eating. But I will say, for hospital food it was rather good. However, Saturday morning I put on my black cargo pants that I wore as part of my uniform and I barely got them hooked. I will have to start doing the tread mill and doing exercises.
Saturday was the annual Louisville Hamfest. I usually volunteer to do testing. That way I get in free. So I helped test from 8AM to 10AM. Then went out on the floor. Met a bunch of guys from the club and we chatted awhile. One asked me for my opinion about a RF power meter. Otherwise it was mostly just socializing. Then started walking around. I had gotten a large amount of cash out of the bank as I was looking for a used duplexer, some crystals and perhaps a good used headset. The first thing I got caught in was Jannel Swigert (her husband was past president of the club) getting my attention to her booth. She and a friend was selling some hand made things that had nothing to do with HAM radio. But I had to give her some business so I bought the two pan scrubbers they had for $5. Then I found a guy selling some antique parts and sure enough, he had the crystals I was looking for. He had 6 of them and I figured I’d get a better price if I took all of them off his hands. Sure enough, he sold me all 6 for $10. Then went outside where I’d probably be able to pick up a used duplexer but apparently the threat of rain discourage a lot of people from coming. Then it started to drizzle and a lot packed up and took off. Only a half dozen remained when I got out there. And none of them had anything I was looking for. So, I got in the truck and came home.
I want to thank all the people that called, texted and visited me. It was a very miserable time for me. But I got through it and all is apparently good now. So with that I hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
Good to talk to you today. Much easier and more direct than typing. Glad you are feeling better! Hugs!
