An interesting week…………………………………..
As always, first the chronology:
1/3/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Kathy was already off to church. I got cleaned up and down to do the blog. Kathy came home and we had lunch. Started getting the shack cleaned up for the Sunday afternoon get together at my house. Kathy was off to do things with Julie. Guys left and Kathy came home. Chores. Dinner, computer updates and played radio. Upstairs and usual routine.
1/4/21 – Monday – Up at the usual time and chores around the house. Got the golf cart and tractor back in their winter spots. Had lunch then Kathy and I went up to Mike and Julie’s. Julie wanted her hair colored and she had some chores for me. Got the chores done and she couldn’t find the stuff to do her hair so Kathy and I came down to Taylorsville to take care of some business. Then to Shelbyville and a stop at Lowes then dinner at Cattleman’s Steakhouse. Home and unloaded things and put them away. Usual evening ritual.
1/5/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time and chores around the house. Called the bank to get some issues resolved. Otherwise played radio most of the day. Kathy took off late morning to do some banking for her church group and attend a meeting. So I had hot dogs with sauerkraut for lunch. She stopped and did some shopping on her way home so I helped her put things away. Had dinner. Usual evening routine.
1/6/21 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time. Tried to make a scheduled contact with a gentleman in Vermont this morning at 10AM but things didn’t work. So I got cleaned up and out for lunch at Hooter’s. Checked a couple metal supply houses looking for material to build some egg beater antennas for satellite work. Made a couple stops at watering holes. Home and waited for Kathy to come back from babysitting the grand kids today. Had dinner and my usual evening routine.
1/7/21 – Thursday – Up a little early and out for milk and a haircut. Home and tried to get my friend in Vermont on PSK with no luck. Started domestic chores and made myself lunch. Kathy was up and out early to watch the grand kids. I played radio and went to the shop to fabricate a metal bracket to install the new lightning arrestor on my verticle antenna. Dinner and usual evening routine.
1/8/21 – Friday – Up slow today. Up twice last night with abdominal pain and had to go to the bathroom. That continued through the morning so I’m betting a caught some kind of bug. Seemed to subside this afternoon but still not hungry. Kathy went out and picked up Chinese for dinner. Wonton Soup and Pork Fried Rice was good. Otherwise just did a lot of reading and research online. Chatted with my friend John in Londonderry, VT today for awhile. Nothing else worth mentioning or out of the ordinary.
1/9/21 – Saturday – Up at the usual time. Kathy said she wanted another shelf in her laundry area so after we had lunch we headed to Walmart for some things then to Lowes to pick up material for her shelf. Came home and installed it. Dinner and the usual evening things.
Now the particulars:
The political dramatics continued this week. As a lot of you know I post very little on Facebook for many reasons. But this week I couldn’t help myself. I have never seen so much stupidity from both sides. It was just ridiculous. I even posted the following in case you missed it.
That was specifically in response to yet another stupid post by a female in Florida. Interestingly her husband responded with a “like” to the picture.
In any event, if any of you think this stuff is real, please read the above. I have seen live footage that a friend of mine in DC was able to obtain and compared it to what was playing on both sides and it is being distorted both ways. Yes, the Capitol was under siege. No, the DC cops did not escort them in. Those are a couple facts I know for certain. However, I have worked in the Capitol on occasion and I have a little idea about how difficult it is to get in if you don’t belong there. None of those safe guards were deployed. One must ask why? In the past, all Trump demonstrations have been peaceful and they even cleanup after themselves. So why this turn to the tactics used by ANTIFA in areas like Portland? Just too many questions and no one has any real answers. Only speculation. It is a sad day indeed for our country that this happened. But, I am afraid no one will every find out the truth and the wrong people are going to be blamed.
OK, on to lighter and more important things.
I made phone calls. Long overdue phone calls. Found out one of my friends is having a very bad time. Things are just overwhelming. Thoughts and prayers to them. A couple others seem to be doing fine which is a very good thing. I have some more calls to make this week. I’ll keep you posted.
Had the guys over last Sunday for the afternoon get together. All seemed to go well. They were very interested in what I had done in the realm of digital communications on the radio. It was all for Gary but I don’t think that will ever happen. He is too slow on the computer because of his vision issues and slow reaction time that comes with age. But, he wants to learn more so I play along. He also doesn’t have the equipment to do all this stuff and I don’t think he will. But that is all water over the damn. We got together, Gary got out of the house and that was all good. We are planning to go out for dinner this coming Wednesday like we used to do on occasion before the COVID thing. And the plan is to have the wives join us. I know Mike’s wife Gloria and Kathy will be there. Yet to see if Gary’s wife Loretta will be there.
I mention egg beater antennas. I thought I should explain. My next effort will be communicating through satellites. Various organization have launched what is called Low Earth Orbit or LEO satellites that are available for HAMs to communicate through. You transmit to the satellite on one frequency and it rebroadcasts your transmission on another frequency. The problem is, most traditional antennas are designed to send your signals parallel to the earth surface so none of that signal energy would get sent up to the satellite. So, you have a variety of antenna possibilities. The egg beater looks just like an upside down beater you would have on your mixer. It radiates your signal in all directions. I am finding that it would cost me almost as much to buy the necessary material to build these when I could buy them pre-assembled and tested for the same money. Still working on this issue. I’ll keep you posted.
Yesterday morning the wife announced she didn’t have enough shelf space in her laundry area and she wanted another shelf installed. So, played radio a bit in the morning and after lunch headed for Lowes. Made a stop at Walmart to see if they had anything acceptable but found nothing. So, to Lowes. Picked up a white shelving board long enough for the closet, some brackets and screws and off we went. Now here is where the fun starts. The board is 8 feet long so needles to say it’s on one of those carts you use at Lowes or Homedepot to haul your stuff around. We started out the door and I suggested Kathy wait till I get the truck and she said it was very easy to push the cart so she would push it over. I said I would go ahead and take the cover off the back till she got there. I folded the bed cover up and looked for Kathy and she was standing in the loading area with the cart. Whatever, pissed me off but I drove the truck over like I had suggested to begin with. I got a strap out of the truck to secure the board while Kathy loaded the support brackets and screws in the truck. I proceeded to step on one end of the strap laying on the ground and tripping over it with my other foot causing me to fall flat on my face. Now I’m really pissed. You know I can’t accept responsibility for this as I would be admitting I was stupid so it must have been Kathy’s fault. I banged up my hand and my knee and ripped a hole in my good jeans. Anyway, we got home with all the material and unloaded. I put the truck away and gathered some tools and headed to the house. We managed to work together and get the shelf up without killing each other. It does look good if I do say so myself. Anyway, thought you might get a little chuckle out of that.
OK, that’s it for this week. All is good here for the most part. Really had a lot of aches and pains but that’s Kathy’s fault for causing me to fall yesterday. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way. Blog at you again next week.
