A very busy two weeks with a couple of firsts. Warning, this may be long…………………………………..
As always, first the chronology:
6/19/22 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy. Home and a snack for lunch. Downstairs to do the blog. Back upstairs and loaded the truck up with things and up to Mike and Julie’s for dinner. Had a great dinner and the kids gave Mike and I cards. Loaded up the truck and came home. Usual evening routine.
6/20/22 – Monday – Up at the usual time. New zero turn mower came. Then we took Kathy’s car into the J-town transmission shop. Back home and some chores. Over to Shelbyville and Hardees for lunch. Did some shopping at Lowes. Back home and more chores. Kathy worked on painting the wood on the rear deck. Inside and some computer work. Dinner and usual evening routine.
6/21/22 – Tuesday – Up very early this morning. 5:30AM. Was up to Brownsboro road for my spinal infection at 7:15AM. Got that finished up, stopped at Kroger for a perscription on the way home. Got home and had a snack. Then back to bed at 10AM. Kathy called around 11AM and said she was headed down with the grand kids. They arrived and we had lunch. No one wanted to go swimming. Shelby played her phone, Chloe slept and Carter played board games with Kathy. So I finished up the software for my keyer. Julie came and I checked her tire pressure. Got all the tires aired up the way they should be. They departed. Kathy and I had dinner. Usual evening routine.
6/22/22 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time. Upstairs to gather things for this weekend. Then downstairs to try and get FLDIGI to do what I want. Still no luck. Stopped for a sandwich at lunch. Kathy came home from shopping. Helped her unload the car and put things away. Big storm blew in. Had dinner and usual evening routine.
6/23/22 – Thursday – Up a little early this morning. Out to pick up Gary for hair cuts. Home and continued working on field day configuration. Gave up and started putting things together for this weekend. Got a call this afternoon that my D170 was done so we went over to Wright Implements and picked it up. Home, dinner and usual evening routine.
6/24/22 _ Friday – Spent the morning packing all my things for field day in the truck. Ran some errands. Had lunch then out to spray bug killer on the yard. The gnats are terrible this year. Finished up and cleaned things up then inside for a nap and to cool down. Up for dinner and usual evening routine.
6/25/22 – Saturday – Up at the usual time, usual morning routine then off to Field Day with a stop to get ice for the cooler. Got to the park around 10AM and started setting up. Was ready to be on the air by noon. Then helped with other things until 2PM and started making contacts. Things were good. Kate and Leeta from the club quickly picked up the digital modes on the laptop and seemed to enjoy it. They were not super fast but learning is a big part of the exercise. Jack, another member of the club went to Arby’s to pick up lunch for everyone. Kathy went to Zakby’s and picked us up dinner. I stayed till around 10:30PM and came home. Bugs were too bad to camp out.
6/26/22 – Sunday – Up at 5AM and over to the park by 6:30AM. Made some more contacts and shut down around 9:30AM. Then started packing things up. For the most part I just threw it all in the back of the truck. Got home around 11:30AM. Kathy was out picking up Julie at the auto repair shop. She stopped and got me a sandwich at Subway and brought it home for me. I was back in bed by 1PM. Slept till almost 4PM. Up and took Kathy to Cattleman’s for dinner. Home and started putting things away. Got the truck unloaded and things put away in the Morton building. Have a pile of stuff in the garage at the house that has to go back up in the storage area with the camping things. Otherwise, usual Sunday evening routine.
6/27/22 – Monday – Up at the usual time. Kathy was off to watch the grand kids. I spend the day putting away things I took to Field Day. Replaced the bulb in the outside light by the garage. Did some chores inside including my laundry. Had soup for lunch. Kathy came home and we heated up some left overs for dinner. Usual evening routine.
6/28/22 – Tuesday – Up a little late today. Kathy was off to watch grand kids again today. I took my time getting cleaned up. Played radio awhile then over to Wright Implements to pickup a tuneup kit for the D170 tractor and an oil filter replacement for the zero turn. Had lunch at Arby’s. Then to Kroger’s to pick up a prescription and to do some shopping. Home and a nap. Kathy came home and we had burgers on the grill. Usual evening routine.
6/29/22 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time and out for yard work. Spent most of the day. Kathy got to use her new zero turn mower. Usual evening routine.
6/30/22 – Thursday – Up at the usual time, cleaned up and out shopping in Shelbyville. Harbor Freight for gas cans, a stopped at the ATM, Lowes for light fixture for outside garage and things for Kathys gardening. Stopped at Cattleman’s for lunch then to Taylorsville to check on my chain saw. Back for dessert at Dairy Queen and home. Put up light fixture. Put things away and Kathy discovered a bad switch for the fan in the living room. Down to Taylorsville to ACE hardware and picked up a switch. Came home and installed that. Checked out my costume for the Rennasance fair. Had dinner and usual evening routine.
7/1/22 – Friday – Up late this morning. Cleaned up and out to OPS supply for more arrows. Didn’t have what I wanted so wasted trip. Home and a snack for lunch. Monthly detail replaced the furnace filter. Cancelled my Sirus XM subscription. Then played radio working the 13 colonies contest. Kathy was out to Walmart for shopping and to get her toe nails painted. She got home and we had dinner. Usual evening routine.
7/2/22 – Saturday – Up early this morning and dressed for the Renaissance Fair. Met Julie and the grandkids up there a little before 10AM. Went in and registered for the archery competition. Didn’t win anything but hung in till we shot from the 50 yard line and couldn’t hit the target. But it was fun and there were worse folks than me with the bow. I think the heat was getting to Kathy so we left after we had lunch. Home, unloaded things, took a nap then dinner. Usual evening routine.
Now the specifics:
I’m going to give you all a break. I have a lot of material to cover so I’m going to touch very briefly on the Field Day Weekend and the Renaissance Fair Weekend and do a separate blog on them. So, if you don’t want to read those you won’t be forced into it.
So, on Sunday the 16th they had a father’s day celebration at Julie’s. They made us steak with all the trimmings. They made lobster tail for Mike and had shrimp cocktail for me and Mike. The food was delicious and we both got some nice cards. A very enjoyable day.
Kathy’s car was making a noise that concerned me. I thought perhaps is was a wheel bearing so we took it to Daugherty’s and they said it was not a wheel bearing but sounded like something in the power differential. So we dropped it off at the recommended transmission repair shop in J-town. They confirmed it was the front power differential and they ordered it. Will probably take a week or more to get it and then time for them to install so I suspect Kathy will be without her Equinox for a couple weeks. Anyway, we took that over to J-town on Monday 6/20.
Kathy has been watching the grand kids 1 or 2 days a week. The week ending the 25th she watched them on day. Mike took off a day of work for some other things and watched them a day. Then last week she had them Monday and Tuesday. The week before last she brought them over here but no one wanted to go swimming so it was sort of a waste. Other then the fact that Kathy got to do some things around here rather than doing things at Julie’s house.
We had a very bad storm go through the area on the 22nd. Didn’t do any damage to our property but brought down a lot of dead limbs. Other folks had roof damage and trees down. We were lucky again.
Kathy got her new zero turn mower on the 20th. I got my D170 back on the 23rd. We tried them out on Wednesday the 29th. They all seemed to work well. I even put the sprayer on the back of the D170 and sprayed the yard for bugs. Glad to have the old gal back. She is a work horse.
The weekend of the 25th and 26th was Field Day. Check out the blog entry on that for more detailed information. As far as this blog is concerned, I spent a lot of time during the week ending the 25th getting things ready. I essentially set up my digital station on the table here in the kitchenette and made sure everything was working. Then spent a lot of time loading everything in the truck.
I got another lumbar spinal injection early in the morning on the 21st. If you remember several weeks back I got one for my left leg and everything seemed OK. Then I went on a motorcycle ride for about 120 miles and when I got off here at home my right leg was killing me. I had to move the truck to park the motorcycle and had to lift my right leg with my hand to get in the truck. So they did a second injection to relieve the issue with the right leg. It did not work as successfully as previous injections so I’m thinking I have something else going on with that leg beside pinched nerves in my back. Perhaps I will make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor to have that checked out. Damn I’m getting tired of doctors. It’s very difficult dealing with the psychological issues associated with getting old. Perhaps I should write a blog on that. (HaHa)
The beginning of last week was spent putting all the things away from field day. Then into archery practice again in preparation for the renaissance fair. Again, I’ll do a separate blog on that. For this blog let it be said that between those two events I was very busy.
OK, that’s it for this week. Thanks for not harassing me about missing last week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I will blog at you again next week.
