Not a bad week, got some things accomplished…………………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

6/11/23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Home and lunch.  I went down to the shack to do the blog and Kathy went up to go shopping with Julie, Chloe and Carter.  I went over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and waited for Kathy to get home.  When she finally got home we went into J-town to Craft Pizza for dinner.  Then a quick shopping trip at Kroger.  Home and put things away.  Otherwise, usual evening routine.

6/12/23 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Was planning on yard work but it is too wet.  Spent the day in the shack.  Finalized the order for a couple Shari PiHats.  Updated all my logs.  Practice some CW and worked some phone.  Had spaghetti for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

6/13/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Out to do some more work on the pool deck.  Got the canopy up and stairs in the pool.  Then did the yard work.  Finished up about 3:30PM.  Inside, cleaned up, dinner then out to a HAM club meeting in Shelbyville.  

6/14/23 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and we went out shopping at the office supply store and Costco.  Had lunch at Bob Evans while out.  Home and put things away.  A nap, up for dinner and usual evening routine.

6/15/23 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Slow starting today.  Kathy was already out to watch the grand kids.  I got cleaned up and went grocery shopping at Country Mart.  Home and put things away.  Had lunch.  Kathy and the kids got here shortly after that.  Spent time with the kids.  Play Cribbage with my grandson.  My PiHats came so I got them.  Did a Zoom class at 4PM.  Dinner then usual evening routine.

6/16/23 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Did some online work this morning.  Had lunch.  Then finished up building the Allstarlink Node.  Configured it and got a couple things wrong.  Fixed those and all is well.  Had dinner and usual evening routine.

6/17/23 – Saturday – Up a little late this morning.  Kathy managed to screw up her Iphone.  I think she disconnected it from the computer in the middle of an IOS update.  Anyway, spent an hour getting that squared away.  Got cleaned up and did my Saturday morning routine.  Kathy was out to go shopping.  I had lunch then down to the shack to build the second Allstarlink Node.  Finished that up and did some research on setting up echolink on the node.  Practice some CW.  Kathy came home and I helped her put things away.  Then out for Chinese for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

The highlight of my week was getting the Shari PiHats ordered. I did that Monday with a phone call. I got them in the mail Thursday and got one assembled Friday. I did the configuration and now have an Allstar node at the house. Yea, I know, what the hell does that mean. Well, I can connect to it with my hand held radio. Then using touch tones from the HT I can connect to other nodes anywhere in the world. But realistically, I can connect to a repeater that’s out of my range with a radio and then it’s like I’m sitting next to it and talking over it with my HT. But it’s over the internet. So in an apocalyptic world, it probably wouldn’t be of any use. But the trustee of the repeater here in Spencer County want’s it to be an Allstarlink Node so I’ll do it.

My friend Gary fell this week on Thursday. Didn’t want to call EMS but by Friday the pain got rather intense so they called. Long story short, he fractured both bones in the lower right leg. He’s in a cast and they are looking for a rehab facility for him now. He can’t go back home till he can bear weight on it. I’m not sure that will ever happen but who knows. Mike Craycroft and I will go over to see him Monday afternoon.

I’ve been practicing my CW rather consistently. I did the Zoom class on Thursday as usual. I have one more Zoom class in the first carousel then I advance to the second carousel. They teach part of the letters then in the second carousel they teach you the remaining letters, the numbers and the punctuation or what they call pro-signs. I have been checking into the 9PM CW Traffic Net regularly. And I’m starting to understand more and more. In the mean time I’m cheating a little and using a program to decode what they are sending. But it’s not 100% accurate. I get excited when I can copy enough to realize the program is wrong. So I’ll keep at it.

Saturday when I got up the wife announced that she had a problem with her phone. Apparently (and I’m guess here) she plugged her phone into the computer to load some songs and the phone started updating itself. She couldn’t figure out how to load the songs so she unplugged the phone and apparently hung the update process and itunes on her computer. But I was able to get her out of it and restore her phone. All is well now. Have I told you lately that I hate Windows?
