Week Ending 12/02/23

The weeks seem to be getting busier……………………….

As always, first the chronology:

11/26/23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Got cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Had lunch at church.  Home and did the blog.  Over to Gary’s for the Sunday afternoon get together.  Back home, picked up Kathy and over to Shelbyville.  First stop at Harbor Freight for a few items.  To the ATM then Cattleman’s Roadhouse for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

11/27/23 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Gathered things to make arrangements for AAA to come tow the Vibe down to Daugherty’s to get it running again.  In the mean time got a call from Julie that Shelby needed picked up at school because she was sick.  Since Kathy had physical therapy I ran up and got Shelby and made it back in time for the tow truck to pick up the Vibe.  Got Shelby settled and did some things on the computer upstairs till Kathy got home.  Had lunch.  They called and said they found a bad coil pack so I told them put a new one in, change the plugs and do oil and filter change and anything else they saw.  Cost me around $450 for everything but it’s back in good shape now.  Need to replace tires soon but that can wait till next year.  They did the work and called around 2PM that it was done so I went down and picked it up.  Home and did code practice.  Julie came over to pick up Shelby.  We had dinner and usual evening routine.

11/28/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was out to physical therapy.  I went down and practice my code.  Up and cleaned up.  Kathy came home and we took the truck to Kroger and picked up some medication.  Up to Olive Garden for soup and salad for lunch.  Stopped at Home Depot for some things.  Didn’t find anything I was looking for.  Back to Taylorsville and ACE hardware.  Over to Country Mart for some groceries.  Home and put things away.  A nap.  Up for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

11/29/23 – Wednesday – Up a little early this morning.  Cleaned up and down to get my hair cut.  Then to the County Clerks office to pick up my HAM plate for the truck.  Home and put it on.  Kathy took the dog down to the groomer then went up to pick up Chloe at school to bring her home.  I had lunch then to the shack to play radio and fix a couple things.  Kathy stopped to get a pedicure on her way home then picked up the dogs.  We had dinner then usual evening routine.

11/30/23 – Thursday – Up a little early this morning.  Cleaned up and out with Kathy to Julie and Mike’s.  Had to take Chloe into Louisville to the Palace Theater for a performance they were putting on for some elementary kids.  Back out to the house and picked up the truck.  Took Kathy’s car back up to Mike and Julie’s.  Then back into Louisville with a quick stop at Oxmoor Mall and Thronton’s for a cup of coffee.  Then back into Louisville to pick up Chloe a little before noon.  Took her back to the house with a quick stop at Arby’s for sandwiches for lunch.  I came back home and Kathy stayed with Chloe so she could take her to the Ardin Center for some testing at 4PM.  Kathy came home and we had a light dinner.  Usual evening routine.

12/01/23 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was out for physical therapy.  I went to the shack and practice code.  Then made a CW contact.  Kathy came home and we went out to clean the church.  Then to Hometown Pizza for lunch.  Home and worked on outside Christmas decorations.  Down to the shack and a Zoom class.  Up for a snack for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

12/02/23 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Did my Saturday morning routine.  Down to practice my code.  Up and started getting cleaned up.  Had a snack for lunch.  Kathy and I out in the truck to downtown Louisville and the Palace Theater to watch Chloe do her thing in the nutcracker.  Mike (Our son-in-law) took us all out to a Japanese place that Chloe likes for dinner afterward.  Home and usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

This week was the culmination of Chloe’s dance efforts with several performances of the “Nutcracker in a Nut Shell”. They did a performance early in the week at a facility up in Crestwood that was essentially a money maker for the organization. Then they did a dress rehearsal at the Palace in downtown Louisville on Wednesday. A presentation Thursday and Friday for the elementary kids in the Jefferson County school system. Again that was a money maker for the troupe. Then of course the finale was Saturday with the main performance. To save Julie taking off three days in a row to get her down there, Kathy and I took her down for the performance on Thursday. Of course we were not allowed in. That’s all another story.

Here’s proud grandpa and the lovely young Chloe after the last performance. No, that is not the usual top she wears. It’s a ragged one that she wears for dancing as it’s easy to get on and off her head and not mess up her hair. Our son-in-law Mike took all of us out to a Japanese Hibachi restaurant afterward.

Thursday we were originally going to take two vehicles up to Mike and Julie’s place. Leave one there and take Chloe down for the performance. She had to be there at 9AM. Then we were going to do some shopping at a mall down in that area. Then when we picked up Chloe at lunch time we could take her home. I could take my truck back to our house and Kathy was going to hang out up at Mike and Julie’s so she could take Chloe to the Arvin Center (Advanced placement class place that Carter and Chloe go to) to take a test after school was over. Wednesday night Julie told us the testing had been canceled so we only took Kathy’s car up. When we got to Mike and Julie’s we were informed that things had changed again and Chloe would be taking the test. So, that is why we came back to our house and picked up the truck. More or less a cluster fuck sorta day. But, it all got done so things were good.

The Vibe was running very poorly so I made an appointment for it last Monday morning at Daugherty’s. I tried to drive it down but could hardly make it up the first hill leaving our house. So I brought it back and parked it. Since Kathy insists on us having AAA I decided to use there benefits and called to have the car towed to the service center. That all happened rather easily much to my surprise. They looked at it and determined it was a bad coil pack. I told them to replace that and do the spark plugs while they were at it. Also did a oil and filter change for me. Not bad for $450.

In the mean time we got a call Monday that Shelby was sick at school and since Kathy was busy with Physical Therapy I went up and picked her up. Brought her back to the house and she spent the day here. Julie came and picked her up after she got off work.

The LED light strips I have under the shelves in my shack are slowly going bad. They are getting dim and some sections are starting to flicker which is annoying as hell. So Tuesday I decided to take Kathy out for lunch at Olive Garden. We like there soup and salad thing which is reasonably priced. Then we went to Homedepot to pick up some lights and they didn’t have shit. I was extremely disappointed. Also wanted to pick up some three way light bulbs and they didn’t have those. A wasted trip. A reminder why I don’t go to Homedepot down here. So we went back out to Taylorsville and our local ACE hardware store and I got the three way bulbs I was looking for. Got online and order the lights for under the shelves.

Got my new HAM license plate for the truck.

Went to the County Clerk’s office Wednesday and pick it up. Doesn’t look bad.

Friday we spent the day cleaning the church in the morning. Stopped at Hometown Pizza for lunch then worked on outside Christmas lights in the afternoon.

I’ve been doing well lately with the code. Actually starting to feel comfortable with it all. I’ve been asked to be NCS (Net Control Station) for the Kentucky CW Traffic Net in January and February. Not sure if I’m ready for that but perhaps I’ll give it a try.

Well that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
