Week Ending 7/13/24

A great week……………………………………………………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

7/7/24 – Sunday – Up a little late today. Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy. Home, lunch and did the blog. Out to see Gary for the Sunday afternoon get together. Home, picked up Kathy and over to Shelbyville for dinner at Cracker Barrel. A stop at Lowes for some things and Dairy Queen for dessert. Home, unloaded things, put the truck away and usual evening routine.

7/8/24 – Monday – Up at 6AM and out to work. Did the handicap entrance my self today. Got done around 12 noon. Home, Kathy was out with the grand kids. I had lunch, called Morris Electric about the red light on the generator. Out to the Morton building and folded up the cover for the pool and put it and the pillow away for the summer. Cleaned and painted the base for the umbrella on the deck. Got the golf cart and brought the base over to the house. Got the gas cans ready to go get filled. The service guy from Morris Electric arrived and we talked about a plan. I went inside while he did the work. He left and Kathy came home. Helped unload the groceries. Then down to get the gas cans filled. Back home and some chores. Dinner and usual evening routine.

7/9/24 – Tuesday – Up at 6AM again and out to work. Kathy started the yard work around 10AM. I got done with court at noon. Got gas on the way home. Kathy stopped when I got home and we had lunch. Then both of us went out and continued. Finished up around 3:30PM. Inside and cooled down. Cleaned up and dinner. Then over to Shelbyville for a HAM club meeting. Home, put the truck away and usual evening routine.

7/10/24 – Wednesday – Up at 7AM and got cleaned up before breakfast. Made the “Over the hill” net. Then out to get my hair cut. Down to Daugherty’s to have them look at my truck. Home and lunch. Then down and finished all the updates on my two laptops. Took a nap. Finished making up a cable for my QRP rig. Cleaned off the work bench and put some things away. Dinner and usual evening routine.

7/11/24 – Thursday – Up at 7:30AM and made the “Over the Hill” net. Cleaned up and some chores around the house. Then out around 10AM and got on the motorcycle. Stopped for lunch at Hooters and got back home around 1:30PM. Dressed down and cooled off. Down to do some computer work. Kathy came home and we took a nap for an hour. Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

7/12/24 – Friday – Up at 6AM, cleaned up and out to work at 7:15. Started work at 8AM in court which ran till 1PM. Then lunch with a couple co-workers and back to do some preparation for court next Wednesday. Home and changed clothes. Down to the church to help Kathy finish up cleaning. Then took Kathy to Taylorsville for Chinese for dinner. Home and chores around the house. Otherwise, usual evening routine.

7/13/24 – Saturday – Up at 8AM. Cleaned up and out with Kathy to pick up both our grand daughters. Then to the Crooked Creek safari in Laweranceburg, KY. Got there around 10:30. I think the girls had a good time. Stopped at Dairy Queen on the way home for lunch. Dropped the girls off at home then back to our house. Unloaded the truck and out to start working on the pool. Should be ready for a swim this week. In and cooled down, a shower, nap then dinner. Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Over the last weekend, I noticed the the red light on the generator was lit. I took the keys out and couldn’t get them to work. Monday after I got home from work I called Morris Electric (around 1PM) and talked to my friend Isaac. He said the keys should work and to have them when the service tech gets here. Well, I tried them again and like he said, they worked. So, I noticed the error was a low oil pressure alarm. I checked the oil and it was OK so it was either the sensor or the oil pump. The tech got here at 3PM (couldn’t ask for better service) and I advised him of what I found. He bypassed the error code and started the generator and the oil pressure sensor was leaking. So, he changed that and also the starting battery. He also did the annual maintenance so that’s good till next July.

Otherwise, I just did some chores around the place on Monday. Painted the base for the umbrella on the rear deck and got that already for the umbrella. Went down and got the gas cans filled for the yard work Tuesday.

Tuesday I only work half a day. Kathy started the yard work in the morning. I helped finish it up after I got home from work. Went to a HAM club meeting Tuesday evening.

Wednesday I had off so I got an appointment for my hair cut. Then took the truck down to the auto body shop to have them look at it. I was hit on my way to the HAM club meeting last night. Really tore the hell out of the plastic front end on the car that hit me. I didn’t see any damage to my truck but I took it to the body shop and they noticed a scratch on the step I had installed on the truck and a chip in the paint. Nothing that I’m going to do anything about. I really felt bad for the guy that hit me. He was as old if not older than me and I believe he had a motor function disability. I cut him slack and didn’t get the police involved. Of course I called my insurance company and made them aware so it he did file a claim they would know not to pay it.

Kathy was out with the grand kids Wednesday doing things so I spent the remainder of the day doing computer updates. Have I ever told you I hate Windows?

Thursday I had some chores around the house then out on the motorcycle. Rode a little over 100 miles with a stop at Hooter’s for lunch. Was out for a little over 3 hours. Great ride on a great day.

Friday I ended up working longer than I expected. The court docket was full and the judge wanted a rearrangement in the main court room for jury selection next week. So three of use had lunch together then back and took care of the rearrangement. Since we are in charge of court security, no one else can get in the court room without us being there. So it only made sense that we should take care of things.

I had planned to help Kathy with cleaning the church but she started without me. So when I got off work I went home, changed clothes and went down to help her finish up. Then I took her to the Chinese restaurant for dinner.

Saturday we took the grand daughters to the Crooked Creek Animal Safari. We heard about it from a guy in church. So I did the research and asked Chloe if she wanted to go. She said she’d like to go so we made arrangements to pick them up at 9:30AM on Saturday. We took Shelby as well since Julie had to take Carter to his tennis tournament and we couldn’t leave Shelby by herself. I think they had fun.

Here are some pictures for the days activities. They really did have some exotic animals. I was surprised by the kangaroos and the camels.

Well that was my exciting week. Next week I’ll be working more as one of the guys is off on vacation.

Hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. Well, I survived Hurricane Beryl. What a mess to clean up! Was without power for a while and finally got to start the generator. I have some roof damage, lots of tree debris, my fence is all “uprooted” from the ground, screen room damage, window sun screens damaged/ missing. I have things cleaned up and now waiting for insurance adjuster and all the people to do the work on the damaged items. Don’t care to go through this again. A week after the storm and there are still parts of the city that doesn’t have power. Did y’all have any effects from the storm as it moved to the northeast? Hope all is well in Kentucky!
