Week Ending 06/14/25

Success………………………………………………………………………

No chronology this week, just a quick and simple post. As some of you may know I went back to the Academy last Sunday to try getting through. I went to church, came home, had lunch and took off about 2PM. Got down to Richmond, KY and the Department of Criminal Justice Training center (DOCJT) around 3:30PM. Orientation started at 4PM and lasted till 6PM. We got our room assignments and a poor 22 year old got stuck with me. He was a great guy to room with from my perspective. He and I got settled in and went out to Steak and Shake for dinner as the school facilities are closed on weekends. Monday and Tuesday were grueling days filled with lectures by the folks from the Administrative Office of Courts (AOC). Stuff I had already heard the previous session in March. Wednesday started the good stuff for this week. We went to the range, checked out our weapons from the armory then had a half day of class. We got to the range Wednesday afternoon and started our training. I made it through with some difficulty. Then Thursday morning we went back and spent the morning doing more training. Had lunch then our last rotation of training. That is the point were I had to drop out in March. This time I made it with no problem.. We did our pre-qualification followed by the actual qualification. And I passed. That was the challenging part of the two weeks for me and I made it. Back to the classroom on Friday for a session on laws taught by a very boring attorney, lunch then a short class by one of our course instructors. We got out about 2PM and I was home by a little after 4PM. Had some storms on the way that slowed me down a bit. Unloaded the truck, went to the Chinese restaurant for dinner then home and into my own bed. Saturday I spent most of the day cleaning things up and putting things away that I won’t need for this coming week. Went out to Cattleman’s Roadhouse for dinner. Home, did the blog and went to bed.

That’s about the end of it for this week. Perhaps next week I’ll write some more about the experience. But for now and as always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I”ll blog at you again next week.

  1. Congrats on passing at the Academy! Bet you are glad that is over!

Just a short note that I made it home to Texas. Got back here on Thursday 6/5. I drove straight through, which is 14 hours normally but it took me close to 16 hours with the rain, traffic and construction. Not sure how much longer i can do that straight thru trip. Now I have been catching up on blood work, doctor, dentist, eye doctor and hair appointments, and of course getting the house back in order. Have outside work that needs to be tended to…weeds, etc. That should be fun in the Texas heat.

    Till next time…..
