Week Ending 07/19/25

A lot of rain this week……………………………………………

As always, first the chronology:

7/13/25 – Sunday – I was up around 7:30AM but Kathy had a bad night so I let her sleep. Had breakfast and did some research on the computer. She got up around 10AM but that was too late for church. We had lunch, I got cleaned up and went to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Back home and picked up Kathy and up to Cracker Barrel for dinner with the Rice family. Home and usual evening routine.

7/14/25 – Monday – Up at 6AM and out for an appointment at Commonwealth Pain and Spine management. Home around 9:30. Didn’t sleep for shit last night so I went back to bed and slept till lunch time. Kathy got ready and we went to Cattleman’s Steakhouse for lunch then a stop at Harbor Freight for some masonry bits then to Lowes to look at canopies and get some plants for Kathy. Home and we were both still tired so we took a nap. Up and chores around the house. A snack for dinner and usual evening routine.

7/15/25 – Tuesday – Up at 7:30AM. Cleaned up and out for a haircut at 9AM. Then down to Taylorsville and the court annex to check on working tomorrow. Back to the auto parts store and got windshield wipers for the Vibe and some material to put the shine back in the headlights. Then dropped the Vibe off at the garage. Kathy picked me up and went home. Kathy was finishing up in the kitchen then into J-Town to pick up prescriptions at Kroger for me. Up to Academy sports to look at canopies. Back to J-town and lunch at Craft House Pizza. Home and dessert. A nap then worked on new doorbell. Dinner and usual evening routine.

7/16/25 – Wednesday – Spent most of the day today working on the keyboard that I took apart. Will try to get it back together by the end of the week. Nothing else significant today.

7/17/25 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and into work. Worked the door from 7:30AM to 4PM with an hour off for lunch. Stopped at Country Mart for some ice cream on the way home. Got drenched in the process. Home and changed clothes. Dinner and usual evening routine.

7/18/25 – Friday – Up around 8AM. Kathy was off to volunteer at the animal shelter. I spent the morning working on the keyboard. Kathy came home and we had an early lunch. Kathy went to get her hair done. I went for a nap. Up and some chores. Did burgers and dogs on the grill for dinner. Usual evening routine.

7/19/25 – Saturday – Up around 9AM. Down to send time report into work. Then worked on the Keyboard. Got it put back together and it powers on but still nothing from the keys. So I guess that will go out in the garbage on Monday night. Had lunch then did some CW. Up for a nap. Talked to Tod on the phone for awhile. Dinner then usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Do not buy a Korg keyboard. It was having issues with the tones not being generated correctly and that situation kept getting worse then finally it would not power on. I searched the internet for information on the keyboard or where I could ship it to get it repaired. I called a half dozen places and all to no avail. So I tore into it myself. Having no schematic I was working blind. Basically I used the magnifying camera my son-in-law bought me to closely inspected the two boards that were the guts of the device. Found a couple solder joints that really looked bad and fixed them. Overall the workmanship was poor. Also did a visual inspection of components and didn’t find anything obviously wrong. Put it all back together cleaning all the connectors as I re-assembled it. It now powers on but still nothing in terms of sound. So, with no other options, I guess it will go out in the garbage on Monday evening. As a side note, buy Roland if you are into keyboards. Not as expensive and has a list of places to call for parts, repair and technical support.

Rain, rain and more rain this week. This is the time of the year when we are used to “Pop Corn” showers in the late afternoon or early evening but this is ridiculous. I think we’ve had at least 3 flash flood watch alerts this week. And of course when it thunders the dogs go ape shit. Tuesday night we didn’t get any sleep with them panting and shaking the bed. Thus far this week we have had 5.7 inches of rain. Doesn’t sound disastrous but on one day we got 2.33 inches in about an hour and a half. I have some concrete work to do and need to mow the yard. Neither will happen in the next week according to the forecast.

I was light on work again this week. Only my usual Thursday on the door. Looks like I’ll be working Tuesday morning for a coworker then my usual Thursday. The following week it looks like they are catching up on some things so I’ll probably be working 3 or 4 days. Still not bad.

Got the Kentucky POTA event coming up on August 9th. The canopy I had been using got destroyed by the wind the last time we went out. So this year I decided to get a good one with side panels that I can anchor down so it won’t get destroyed. Tried looking around here but nothing really worth while. I did some shopping on Amazon and found one for $238 and I added a 2 year warranty for another $30. That should make sure I have something good for a couple years.

Went to see my favorite PA (other than my daughter) at the Commonwealth Pain and Spine Management. She was pleased that I got through the academy and she thought I was doing well. So she didn’t change anything and I don’t have to go back for 4 months now.

During the Amazon sale week I ordered a Ring doorbell that lets you answer the door anywhere you are on your smart phone and talk to the person at the door. it also captures the video so you have it to pass to law enforcement if necessary. But the logistics in mounting this thing is rather complicated. I have to do some serious thinking before I dive back into that project.

Well the twins are going for there driving test the beginning of next month. So, I needed to get my ass in gear on getting the Vibe in shape. I stopped at the auto parts store and got new windshield wipers for it and picked up a Mother’s kit to refurbish the headlights. I did get the side view mirror replaced that was damaged. I dropped it off Tuesday to see if the new mechanic I go to can figure out why the dashboard looks like a Christmas tree. Haven’t heard anything yet but hope to have that issue resolved soon. Now I just have to figure out how to give this to the twins without taking any money from them like their dad wants.

OK, that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. As usual, I’m a little late reading the weekly blog. We could use some of the rain y’all have had. We maybe get a rain shower and then it all moves north up towards Houston. They’ve had a good amount of rain but not us. And…we have been lucky with extremely hot and humid temperatures. I know, it is Houston in July…it will be hot and humid!

Nothing exciting going on here in Texas…too hot to go outside. I’ll wait for you weekly blog update tomorrow!
