Week Ending 07/26/25

A busy but not exciting week………………………………………………………………

As always, first the chronology:

7/20/25 – Sunday – Up around 8AM. Kathy was slow again getting up this morning so we blew off church. I spent some time refreshing my memory about the SKCC (Straight Key Century Club) and getting their logging program loaded. Had lunch and some chores then out to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Home, picked up Kathy and up to Olive Garden for dinner. Quick stop at Lowes to pick up a water filter for the refrigerator. Home and usual evening routine.

7/21/25 – Monday – Kathy was off this morning to volunteer at the animal shelter. I did some work on the ring door bell. She came and got cleaned up. We went into J-town for some prescriptions and had a late lunch at Craft House Pizza. Did some additional shopping then home. A snack for dinner and usual evening routine.

7/22/25 – Tuesday – Up at 6AM and into work. Manned the circuit court clerks office door from 7:30AM to 1PM. Was covering for my co-worker Scott. Home and picked up Kathy. Over to Shelbyville and had lunch at Cattleman’s Steakhouse for lunch. Then to Harbor Freight for an Apache case. Stopped at Lowes for some items include a carpet sample for the front bed room. Home and nap. Dinner and usual evening routine.

7/23/25 – Wednesday – Up around 8AM and out to do yard work. Had to clean up some stone that was washed out with the rains. Then started mowing. Quit around 3:30PM. In and cooled down. Dinner and usual evening routine.

7/24/25 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and into work. Manned the clerk’s office door from 7:30AM to 4PM with an hour off for lunch. Home, and got a call the Vibe was done so Kathy went down to pay for the work and get the key. She came home and we went to the local Mexican place for dinner. Then stopped to pick up the Vibe. Home and usual evening routine.

7/25/25 – Friday – Up at 6AM and into work. Did circuit court from 8AM to 11:30AM. Home and lunch. Spent most of the afternoon napping. Had dinner and usual evening routine.

7/26/25 – Saturday – Up at 7AM. Breakfast, dressed and took the Vibe over to the Morton building to polish the headlight cover and put new windshield wiper blades on it. Kathy cleaned out the inside and washed windows. In for lunch and cleaned up. Julie came with the grand daughters to drop off a milk shake for Kathy. Then a nap. Up for dinner. Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

The Pontiac Vibe is not back to as close to original as I can get it. No lights on the dashboard so all appears good. It was a $26 Evap. hose that had been chewed on by some rodents while it was sitting and it cost me $177 for the work to find the problem, order the hose and replace it. An interesting process since Pontiac has all parts for the car discontinued. He had to go to a Toyota parts place to get the hose. fyi (The car was manufactured in a Toyota plant in California and they just put the Pontiac and Vibe names on it). So while the mechanic had it, we had him put four new tires on it and had him replace the tire pressure sensors at the same time. All told, a little less than a thousand dollars work but it is definitely safe for the grand kids which is my primary concern. We also polished the headlight covers so they were not as hazed over. Put new windshield wiper blades on it all around. Kathy cleaned the inside out a little so it’s ready for them to take their test in if they so desire and to do whatever they want after they get their license next month. I just pray to God they both pass or they both fail. It would be brutal for one to pass and the other to fail.

We did the lawn work on Wednesday. We went slow and kept hydrated. But it appeared the new S-180 was cutting a little higher than Kathy’s zero turn. Kathy insisted that I lower the deck on the S-180 rather than adjust the zero turn. Well, with the grass growing up like weeds with all the rain then a little sun, the yard now looks like shit. It’s scalped with grass clippings mounded up all over the place. When we do it this week I will set the S-180 back to where I had it and if she wants the yard to look the same all over, she will have to adjust her mower up to match mine.

Well work was interesting this week. I was only scheduled for one day, my usual Thursday. But a co-worker that works the door needed Tuesday morning off so the boss asked me to cover him which I was more than glad to do. Then while thanking me for doing that he asked if I could cover him on Friday at District Court. And of course I said yes as I like to work court. However, that was the first in about a month I’ve worked in court and my legs were tired. You don’t realize how soar they can get when you are 77 years old and you haven’t stood for that long. So I was rather wiped out the rest of the day Friday which was why I slept a lot.

Well that’s about all the excitement here for this week. Got a lot done and helped out a couple people. So as always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. Nothing exciting here in Texas either…just super hot and humid. Since I am so late reading blog this week, I’ll wait for Sunday’s update. Till then…
