A more interesting week then most……………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
9/21/25 – Sunday – Up around 8AM. Kathy was not feeling well so we blew off church. She went back to bed after taking some Tylenol. I did things around the house to try and stay quiet. I heard her up so I got us some lunch. She said she felt better but I blew off going to Gary’s in case she had something contagious. Spent the afternoon doing a little work on the work bench. Had dinner and usual evening routine.
9/22/25 – Monday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Had family court this morning with a rather large docket and didn’t get out till after lunch time. Went home and had lunch. Kathy was out taking Shelby to a doctor’s appointment. I went to bed for a nap and got up when Kathy got home. Did some chores around the house, had dinner then usual evening routine.
9/23/25 – Tuesday – Up at 6AM and off to work. Found out court was canceled so started home. Stopped at Country Mart for some items on the way. Got home and Kathy was off taking Chloe to the doctor. I had a snack and to bed for a nap. Up and had lunch. Kathy came home shortly after lunch. We did some chores then had dinner. Usual evening routine.
9/24/25 – Wednesday – Up at 8AM and cleaned up. Kathy and I went out car shopping and bought a 2016 Jeep Renegade. Finished things up mid afternoon so we stopped at the Long Horn Steakhouse for something to eat since we missed lunch. Got home and put things away. Had a snack then usual evening routine.
9/25/25 – Thursday – Up at 6AM and into work for my usual 7:30 to 4 shift on the door to the circuit court clerks office. Got home and had dinner. Usual evening routine.
9/26/25 – Friday – Up at 8AM and cleaned up. We met Julie at a gas station in Elk Creek to pick up the grand kids. We all went to Dairy Queen for lunch. Dropped the girls off at the Blue Moon to get their haircut. Went home and Carter and I stayed at the house while Kathy went back down to stay with the girls and then bring them home. We play some games then Carter drove me up to Mike and Julie’s place in the Vibe and Kathy brought the girls up. Kathy and I started home and stopped at Kroger. Did some shopping and picked up some medication for Kathy. Then home, dinner and usual evening routine.
9/29/25 – Saturday – Slept in till almost 11AM. Got up and did some chores then lunch. Kathy went to the church to help with the Octoberfest. I didn’t feel up to it so I stayed home and got caught up on some computer work. I took care of the dogs and made sure they got all their expected treats. Kathy came home around 8PM exhausted. But she said is was a fun day. Got things unloaded and tables back downstairs. Then to bed.
Now the specifics:
It seems like the ills are abounding. First event was Monday. Shelby had been sick over the weekend so Kathy went up and took her to the doctor on Monday. Then Tuesday Chloe could hardly talk. So Julie made her stay home from school and Kathy took her to the doctor. Kathy was feeling the ills most of the week so she decided to go to the urgent care on Thursday after her volunteer stint at the VA. The nurse practitioner couldn’t find anything conclusive so she put her on Zythromax which she started taking right away along with her routine with the Flonase and additional medication to dry her up. And lastly, I have been feeling like shit all week. Unusual aches and pains along with getting up Saturday late and feeling like shit. So, I started back with my exercises and did some time on the treadmill. That seems to have helped. I will continue with that and see if things continue to improve. And that’s the scoop on that.
Now for a much longer story. Several years ago when Mike’s (My son-in-law) dad passed away, they inherited his Pontiac Vibe. It set in their driveway for several years and finally decided they were not going to get any money out of it. So they gave it to me. Julie thought she was doing the right thing by going out and starting it for 10 minutes every week or two but they didn’t keep up with the license so she couldn’t drive it anywhere. Needless to say that resulted in a bunch of seals and other things drying out and causing problems. I went over it and got most things resolved except an emission issue that my friend Cliff located and fixed for me. So the plan was for me to simply take the car and get it back on the road and when the time came, give it back to the twins. Well the twins got their license several weeks ago and to my surprise, Julie call me week before last and asked about getting it transferred into their name. So, Monday while I was at work I went to the county clerks office and got the paperwork done to transfer it so Julie could just take that and the twins to the Shelby county clerks office and get the transfer accomplished. I should point out that the court we were working at was in the same building as the county clerks office here so I simply did that while I was taking a break. Also, Julie was planning on doing all this on Friday. My efforts where so she could just go and do it without trying to coordinate with me. Well, she forgot the paperwork I gave her and I guess they got to the clerks office, realized they didn’t have the paperwork and had to go back to their house to get it. But eventually on Friday, the grand kids got dropped off for us to pick up at a gas station in Elk Creek. The girls had appointments to get their hair cut at 12:30 so we rushed down to Dairy Queen and fed everyone and got the girls to the hair salon. Carter and I took the old plates off the Vibe and put their new plates on. We took a little test drive and I showed Carter where all the stuff was he need to know about on the car. Later that afternoon Carter drove me over to their house in the Vibe. He did a fantastic job being it was a car he had very little time in. Kathy brought the girls and we dropped them off at the house and Kathy and I headed home. I am happy the twins finally got the Vibe back.
On another note, Kathy’s car has issues with the right front. I’ve been telling her about it for months and she takes if for service and they never find anything. Probably because they never take it for a test drive. But, at the beginning of the week Julie drove it and Kathy was on the passenger side and noticed the noise. She asked me if it would hurt to drive and since I have no idea what it is I told her I didn’t know. So, it has been sitting in the garage till this coming week when she has an appointment to get it looked at.
So, now that her car is down, the Vibe is going to the twins, and she really doesn’t like to drive the truck, although she can with no problem, we have an dilemma. What do we do for a spare car. So, Wednesday we went car shopping. We agreed on the cost and what we didn’t want. I told her I wanted a Jeep with a stick shift and she was adamant that she did not want to deal with a stick shift. So, they had a puke green Jeep that was an automatic that I like and Kathy seemed to like so that’s what we got.

Here she is. Has a few minor issues but nothing that can’t be taken care of. First problem was it didn’t come with an instruction manual. So we don’t know what half the stuff is for and how to change some things. So that is on order and when I get it I have a few other items to order and we now have a great spare vehicle for everyone to use if their car is down. Including the twins.
Also had a great time with Carter this week. Changing plates, going to a drive and getting to play a little cribbage. The twins are now very busy working part time jobs and school work. On top of that they both have practice for the “Nutcracker in a Nutshell” this year. Chloe landed a part that required a partner so Carter agreed to go. Then beside that, Carter has his tennis lessons and games he competes in. They are growing up very fast. But since they have their own car, maybe I’ll get Carter to come over and help me move furniture so we can put down the carpet we bought several months ago.
Well that’s the story for this week. Longer than usual but a very enjoyable week. As always, hope this finds you safe and well. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
Congrats on the “new” Jeep. Good idea on maybe having Carter help you move furniture! You don’t need to be lugging on it.
I refer to kids as Petri dishes. Once they go back to school, they become germ buckets. I know this from being around my great-nieces. Everybody passes it around.
Try to stay healthy!
