A busy week……………………………………………….
As always, first the chronology:
5/31/20 – Sunday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Out to do the yard work. Had to pick up some hose and cut up the old pool cover before we could get started. Took a break around 2PM for a light lunch. Finally finished and got in the house around 4:30PM. Kathy took water to the pool place for testing and picked up chicken at Kroger for dinner. I went downstairs to do the blog. Julie and Mike came over with the grandkids. The grandkids will stay the night. I went to bed, TV, computer research and sleep.
6/1/20 – Monday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Grandkids didn’t get up till almost 10AM. Kathy went for a dentist appointment at 9AM and was on her way home about the same time the kids got up. So, we waited till she got home and had a big breakfast. Pancakes, sausage, bacon and orange juice. Spent the morning with the kids. Kathy left with them around 12:30. I had a little lunch then downstairs and ordered some things online. Then upstairs for a nap. Kathy came home and we had dinner. Downstairs to chat with the guys on 2 meters. Made a contact with Croatia and two contacts in Italy while I waited. Then upstairs. Got some weapons together just incase the rumors that Antifa was coming to the country out of Louisville. Computer updates, TV and sleep.
6/2/20 – Tuesday – Up a little late today and usual morning routine. Did chores around the house. Kathy brought grandchildren over and we had lunch. Then out to the pool. In and cleaned up. Mike came and got the kids. Kathy and I went to Taylorsville for Mexican for dinner. Home and downstairs for computer work/updates. Upstairs and a few more chores. Bed, Big Bang and sleep.
6/3/20 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Downstairs to play radio then cleanup some things, got an appointment to have the motorcycle annual maintenance done. A salad for lunch then outside to dig up the septic tank. Have a problem with some broken parts in the effluent filter. Spent time looking for the parts I need for repair and can’t find them. Think I need to change out the entire filter assembly. I’ll hire someone to do that. Had dinner then chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Computer updates. Upstairs to bed, Big Bang, computer work and sleep.
6/4/20 – Thursday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Downstairs to play radio but bands were not good. Dressed and over to the Morton building to look at the broken stool Julie gave me to fix. Then washed the Vibe and my motorcycle. Back to the house and helped Kathy unload groceries. Then lunch. Helped Kathy with the pool and some chores. Then dinner. Downstairs to chat with the guys then upstairs to bed, computer work, Big Bang and sleep.
6/5/20 – Friday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Out and finished cleaning up the pool. Then cleaned up the Vibe. Inside for lunch. Cleaned up and out for errands. Home and unloaded groceries. Went out and picked up hose and put it away. Inside and waited for Julie, Mike and the grand kids for dinner. Helped clean up then to bed, TV, computer updates and sleep.
6/6/20 – Saturday – Up a little early this morning and usual morning routine. Did some chores then downstairs to participate in the Kentucky QSO contest on HAM radio. Spent the morning then bands died. Worked on putting the canopy and carpet out on the swimming pool deck and inflated all the toys. Back inside to cool down. Then dinner. Back downstairs and continued participating in the contest for a couple hours. Had a total of 1645 points. About twice what I had last year. And it was fun. Then upstairs and chatted with Kathy on the back deck. Inside to bed, computer updates, TV and sleep.
Now the specifics:
Had the pleasure of having the grandkids around a lot this week. Sunday Mike and Julie brought them over to stay the night. Kathy had a dentist appointment early on Monday so that saved her from rushing over to Mike and Julie’s, getting the kids up and ready and getting back over here by 9AM. Then they wanted to come back over Tuesday for the afternoon to go swimming.
The pool was OK to swim in but Kathy thought it was cloudy so twice we gave it a treatment with chemicals that would percipitate the fine stuff out of the water. A little bit of a long process as you have to put in the chemicals, circulate it for awhile then shut things down for 8 hours so it all falls to the bottom. Then we had to vacuum the pool and waste the water since the filter would not catch it. We were successful and it’s crystal clear now.
We were nailed by a lot of wood borer bees this year. We put out traps, sprayed and squirted WD40 in the holes and patched over them with wood filler. That seemed to get rid of the majority but the deck should be painted. Kathy says she will get it done but I’m not holding my breath. Anyway, she was dragging her feet on putting up a canopy and putting out the carpet on the deck but I convinced her we should do that and when she is ready to have it painted I will remove everything.
And here is a picture of the finished product. If the pool doesn’t look right it’s because we have the solar cover on.
I few weeks back I mentioned I was having problems connecting my keyboard to my mixer as I was going to do some recording. I pulled the book out for the mixer this week and discovered what the problem was. I made two adapter cables and put them in place and things are working great now.
And here I am just waiting for the start time of the contest this week. I scored a total of 1645 points this year. Only had 888 points last year. Had 47 contacts, 22 counties out of 120 in Kentucky and 13 states including Kentucky. Had a lot of fun and chatted with some extremely friendly folks. Doubt that I will win anything but had a lot of fun.
I am totally disgusted by all the things going on in the world today. It is time to open things without any mandated restrictions. Advise people to contact their local health department for guidance if they wish. Let businesses advertise exactly what precautions they are taking and let the general public decide if they want to go out and if so, where they want to go out to. It is time to stop taking care of everyone and start letting people take care of themselves.
As for the protesting I have a picture that sums up my attitude about that.
Anything else is just criminal and the people involved should be treated appropriately.
Hope this finds everyone well. Stay safe and healthy. Blog at you again next week.
