Week Ending 8/7/21

A rather busy week………………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

8/1/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was already out for church.  I relaxed, drinking coffee, reading the news.  Cleaned up and out to church.  Home and lunch.  Down to do the blog and gather garbage.  Out to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and took Kathy shopping at Walmart and Lowes then stopped at Cattleman’s for dinner.  Home and got the truck ready to take Rusty to school tomorrow morning.  Downstairs to play radio.  Talked to Slavko in Slovenia.  Nothing else going on.  Some more minor chores and usual evening routine.

8/2/21 – Monday – Up early this morning and on the road to take Rusty to doggy school in Indiana.  Got back home around 10:30.  Took a ride over to OPS supply with my old long bow to see if they had a string for it.  They kept it and will research it and get back to me.  Home and lunch.  First of the month chores this afternoon and a nap.  Dinner then usual evening routine.

8/3/21- Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and geared up.  Out on the motorcycle around 10AM.  Rode till around 4PM.  Rode the usual route with a stop for some R&R.  Usual evening routine.

8/4/21 – Wednesday – Up a little early.  Was on standby to go up to the Rice house for the delivery of a new clothes dryer.  Found busy work.  Updated navigational devices.  Took 2 hours just to get windows 10 up and running.  Finally finished everything up about 2PM and no call so Kathy and I decided to go on up.  On the way up we got the call that the delivery guys are on their way.  We got there and the guys showed up 15 minutes later.  Took care of things there.  Headed to Walmart for some shopping.  Then out to Shelbyville the back way for dinner at Cracker Barrel.  Stopped at Country Mart and Dollar General for a couple more items.  Home and usual evening routine.

8/5/21 – Thursday – Up early today.  Kathy was up and out to watch grand children.  I got cleaned up and out to pickup Gary to go for our hair cuts.  Home and another coffee.  Started doing some banking on the computer and figuring things out for the rest of the year.   Need to keep my ducks lined up.  Had lunch.  Then did some reading till the appliance repair guy came to replace the ice maker in the refrigerator.  Kathy came home and I did burgers and brats on the grill.  Usual evening routine.

8/6/21 – Friday – Up at 5AM today with an ear ache.  Tried to stay still till Kathy got up.  Made an appointment to see the doctor at 11:30.  Kathy went up to Indiana to take a one hour class at Duffy’s Dog Training School then she brought Rusty back home.  Doctor said both ears are infected so he called in a prescription for an antibiotic.   Didn’t do much the rest of the day.  Usual evening routine.

8/7/21 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Out around 10AM to start the yard work.  Really didn’t need mowed but it’s suppose to be wet next week and won’t be able to do it.  Finished about 3PM with a 45 minute break for lunch and killing bees.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Started the week by taking Rusty over to Duffy’s Dog Training school. We dropped him off for the week since we didn’t want to drive back and forth every day. Especially since he likes to throw up in the back of my truck. He stayed till Friday. Kathy went up get him. I was suppose to go along but had other issues I’ll explain later. She got the hours training and seemed happy with the results. I guess that was money well spent. He does seem to be easier to discipline. Not sure if that is the result of him going to school or Kathy.

Sometime around Tuesday or Wednesday I started having issues with my ears. I thought it was ear wax and started the Debrox thing and rinsing with warm water. That continued till I got up Friday morning about 5AM with a sore ear. I waited till 8 and called the doctor’s office and got an appointment with the nurse practitioner since my regular doctor was off. We were suppose to go up and get Rusty around the same time so Kathy had to go herself. He looked in my ears and said they were infected and ordered me some Amoxicillin which I started right away. Hasn’t done much good so I’ll be texting him Monday for a different antibiotic or a referral to an ENT guy.

Tuesday was a nice day, the humidity was not bad, the temperature was about right and I had nothing pressing so I was out on the motorcycle. I left around 10AM and took my usual route down to the Blue Grass Parkway and back up to Shepardsville. Stopped at my usual place for lunch. Then over to the Dixie Highway and north. I decided to change my routine a little so I drove on up to some watering holes. Stopped and had some water and watched the ladies. Then back on the Waterson Expressway and around to route 64 east. Got off at Blankenbaker Parkway and south to Taylorsville road. Then home. Got home about 4PM and put about 140 miles on the bike. A good day.

They say a good home maintenance person knows when the problem exceeds their expertise. Well that’s what happened with the ice maker in the refrigerator. I tried all the things I could do and called a repair service. They came last week and diagnosed the problem as a bad ice maker. They ordered the replacement for me and came this Thursday to install it. They were right on. It’s been making ice ever since.

Late Friday the furnace quit. Or should I say the air conditioning. It is all one unit. Kathy had mentioned earlier in the day she was warm. But she goes hot and cold periodically so I didn’t think much about it. When I was done chatting with the guys Friday evening I went upstairs and it was a drastic change. I checked the thermostat and it was set for 72 but the temperature in the house was 78. Upon investigation I found the cutoff switch that operates when the water in the condenser tray gets to high was operated. I checked the drain and there was the problem. So I got the plunger and gave it a couple good shots and everything was good.

Saturday was a very eventful day. We decided to do the yard work as the weather forecast shows a lot of wet days next week. I was on the riding mower and Kathy was using the push mower. All of a sudden I saw her stop and start doing a really hot sexy dance over to the bridge I built. It was rather funny at the time. Then I realized she was being stung by a swarm of yellow jackets. They got her about a dozen times or more. Scared the crap out of me. I watched for all the warning signs of a medical problem and she seemed OK. I used the “Soothe a Sting” swabs on the bite areas and that seemed to help. I managed to get stung once getting her out of the area. It was not a pleasant event. But I got my revenge. Since both mowers where in the area where the yellow jackets came from (in the ground). I got a sprayer and filled it with some bug spray and stood about 12 feet away and just saturated the area with the stuff in the sprayer. When I emptied that and I ceased to see activity, I went over and poured about 8 ounces of the concentrate directly down the hole. I don’t think we’ll have any problems there again.

Last but not least, the right front wheel on the lawn tractor broke again. I was a little pissed with myself as I figured I didn’t do a good job welding it. But I found it was the opposite side from where I welded it that broke this time. I am going to assume the wheel has manufacturing issues and I’m going to replace it. Just need to do it before the yard needs mowed again.

That’s it for this week. An adventure for sure. Hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Blog at you again next week.
