Week Ending 10/23/21

A very uneventful week…………………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

10/17/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Chores and cleaned up for church.  Kathy was out earlier to go to church in J-town.  Home and lunch.  Down to do the blog.  Out to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and Kathy and I went to Walmart in Shelbyville to shop for some storage boxes for the work bench.  The place was a zoo so gave up and over to Cattleman’s Steakhouse for dinner.  Stop at Country Mart on the way home. Usual evening routine.

10/18/21 – Monday – Up very early this morning.  Kathy had to go watch the kids as this is fall break.  Dogs were barking and woke me up around 6AM.  Kathy was off to watch the grand kids.  I continued my efforts at getting things organized on my workbench in the radio shack.  Kathy picked up Subway sandwiches on the way home with the kids.  After lunch Chloe came out and helped me clean out the inside of my truck.  Finished that up and inside.  Left about 3:30PM to take them home.  Then Kathy and I hit the stores looking for storage boxes to help me organize my work bench.  While out our son-in-law invited us to dinner at Olive Garden.  Made one last stop at Walmart on the way home and got some things that will work for me.  Got home and made appointments to get our regular flu shots this week.  Did a little more work on the workbench.  Then bed.

10/19/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was already out to watch the grand children.  I got cleaned up and down to continue the cleanup efforts in the shack.  Kathy came over with the grand kids a little before lunch.  Had lunch and continued cleanup efforts.  Took a break to play Cribagge with Carter for awhile.  Julie came over to pick up the kids.  We had dinner and usual evening routine.

10/20/21 – Wednesday – Up a little early today.  The original plan was to go into J-town and get our regular flu shot this morning.  However, my gastro-intestinal system had other ideas.  I decided it would be good to stay close to a bathroom today so Kathy went on without me.  I took a bunch of medicine and went back to bed.  Had one more bout then up at lunch time.  Kathy went up to spend time with Julie and the kids today and got home shortly after lunch.  I was feeling better so I finished the cleanup efforts.  Had dinner the usual evening routine.

10/21/21 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Felt much better today.  Downstairs for some computer things.  Payed bills and scheduled my flu shot for tomorrow.  Started cleaning things up.  Lunch then back downstairs for more cleaning in preparation for Stan to come.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

10/22/21 – Friday – Up early and out to Kroger Pharmacy for my regular flu shot.  Home and chores around the house. Downstairs and played radio.  Bands in relatively good shape.  Up for lunch and back downstairs.  Did some reading then up for a nap before dinner.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

10/23/21 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was off to spend the day with Julie and the grand kids at Gellrein Farms.  I did the yard work.  Finished up around 3:30pm.  Inside and cleaned up.  Kathy came home and we had dinner.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Let’s start with a positive note. In case you didn’t read the comments last week, Lynn wrote a rather comprehensive note about how she is doing. I did chat with her this week for awhile. She sounds very upbeat although irritated by all the hoops you gotta jump through for medicare. Anyway, here is her comment in case you missed it.

“I am alive and well here in Texas. Thanks to all that sent well wishes! Well, it was supposed to be routine sinus surgery. The short version of the story…I had a severe right side sinus infection throughout. Surgeon went in and removed (as she described to me) a disgusting bunch of blood and puss. In the process of doing this, a hole developed in the sinus between my eyes (due to thin lining?). That hole was allowing cerebral spinal fluid to leak into the sinus. This obviously is not a good condition. The surgeon had fix this, so she took healthy tissue from my left sinus and used it as a plug to fill the hole. She was pretty sure she got it plugged but the standard of care is to then be overseen by a neurosurgeon to really be sure of no leaking. Well our local hospital does not have any neurosurgeons on staff, so I was transferred by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Trauma Hospital in the Houston Med Center. Was there for two days. I was observed and had CTScan with no further issues. Was sprung on Monday 10/11 from the hospital. The worst issue I have is I am not allowed to blow my nose yet. Do not want to disrupt the sinus plus until it heals. Ugh…I so want to do this. Saw the surgeon on 10/18 and all seem to be healing. See her again on 11/4. THEN, in the process of diagnosing the sinus issue, the original cat scan showed tooth #3 molar impinging on the right sinus. Sooo…did the tooth cause the sinus issue or sinus issue cause tooth issue. Anyway, that tooth was pulled today 10/20 (Wednesday). So far that went fine! Now off to a full recovery from all this mess! Sure didn’t plan on all the drama. And the week prior to sinus surgeon was my colonoscopy. So…I have had it with medical stuff for a while but, I see my new general doc on 11/1. Fingers crossed, nothing dramatic!! This is not retirement is for! Oh well, need to stay healthy.”

So thank you Lynn for helping me out with the blog this week.

The grand kids had the week off so Kathy kept them Monday and Tuesday. I benefited from them being off because my grand daughter Chloe helped me clean the inside of my truck. Actually, she did most of the work and I just helped out. Then Tuesday afternoon I got to spend some time with my grand son Carter and we played Cribbage. He’s getting good and almost beat me.

Wednesday we were scheduled to get our regular Flu shot at the Kroger Pharmacy at 8:15. I got up with a case of the runs. Haven’t had that problem in many months. It could not have been the larger portion of Kathy’s Chili I ate or the 1/2 gallon of Dutch Chocolate Ice Cream. Anyway, cancelled my appointment, took a bunch of medicine and went back to bed. All was better by lunch time.

Most of the week was spent tearing things apart on the work bench, organizing it and putting it back. I was frustrated one day looking for some crimp connectors that I knew I had but couldn’t find. Came to realize that I had RF connectors in three different places. So now everything is together and that should make finding things easier. This was a good three day effort.

Thursday and Friday we worked at cleaning things up downstairs here. Our friend Stan is coming down from Michigan on his way back to Florida and will be stopping for a couple days. He has a large motor home that he drives but the last time he was here he was in his Slingshot. He decided to stay inside and liked it so I think he will take advantage of the inside this trip.

I rescheduled my Flu shot for Friday this week since I missed it Wednesday. Got the shot with no issues. But the entertainment at the pharmacy was amazing. First was a Karen that didn’t schedule herself but decided to come in with her husband and could not understand why she couldn’t just pop in line and get her shot without having registered online like everyone else. Then another Karen who was giving everyone her speech about how worthless face masks were because she read it on the internet. Good thing I was in a good mood.

Saturday was rather uneventful. Kathy was out with Julie to take the grand kids to Gallrein Farms for the fall festival. So I spent the day in solitude doing the yard work. Of course the gasket around the oil dipstick decided to dry out while I was mowing and blew oil all over the engine. So next week I’ll be cleaning up that mess and doing some routine maintenance on it.

The Lutheran Church I’m going to ask me if I wanted to join last week. I agreed and was voted in unanimously. I hope the place doesn’t burn down this week.

Well that is it for this week. Hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way. Blog at you again next week.
