Week Ending 10/16/21

Thought I had an easy week till I started doing the blog…………………..

As always, first the chronology:

10/10/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Chores then cleaned up and out to church.  Home and lunch.  Down to do the blog.  Out to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and Kathy and I went up to Homedepot for the ceiling light cover she broke in the kitchen.  Had dinner at Bob Evan’s while out.  Dropped the truck off at Daughtery’s Service center.  Home and chores.  Usual evening routine plus played radio awhile.

10/11/21 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Got a text that they got the new tires on the truck.  Went over and picked it up.  Then home and started yard work.  Finished up around 4:30.  Dinner then usual evening routine.

10/12/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Called Gary to see if he was home so I could go fix his remote system.  He was not at home so I went to Best Buy for a new router since mine seems to want to reboot occasionally for no understandable reason.  Home and started unpacking.  Kathy was grocery shopping and came home.  I helped put things away.  Lunch then over to Gary’s to fix his problem.  Home and Kathy was gone to take Chloe to doctor’s appointments.  I put the new router in service.  Kathy came home and we had dinner.  Then out to a ham club meeting in Shelbyville.  Home and usual evening routine.

10/13/21 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Spent time on the phone getting some things organized, doing computer work and banking.  Upstairs and helped Kathy with halloween decorations on the front porch.  Lunch and more chores.  Then downstairs to play radio.  Back upstairs and cleaned up.  Dinner then out to Carter’s band concert.  Stopped at Country Mart on the way home for some dessert goodies.  Home and usual evening routine.

10/14/21 – Thursday – Up a little early and cleaned up.  Out for my hair cut.  Was going to meet up with Mike my HAM buddy and go to the range but his car was done early.  So I went home, changed clothes and went out on the motorcycle.  Got home around 3PM.  Did chores around the house.  Cooked burgers and brats on the grill for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

10/15/21 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to Harbor Freight to see what they had on sale.  Home and did some chores.  Then installed a new light over my work bench.  Had lunch then worked on the repeater controller.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

10/16/21 – Saturday – Up a little early today.  Was going to go over to Julie’s and help her with some things but Chloe got sick overnight and we didn’t go.  Spent most of the day organizing things on my work bench.  Need to get some more storage containers.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

I thank everyone that sent prayers to Lynn. I’ve been meaning to call her to see how she is but things just don’t line up. When I think about calling it’s either too late or too early. I will check on her this week.

Dropped the truck off Sunday night to get new tires put on it. It was on the schedule for 1PM on Monday but I got a text around 9:30AM that it was done already. Drives a lot different with new tires.

After we picked up the truck we came home and did the yard work. Very wet for this time of year. It’s like it normally is in the spring. Had to let the section in the middle alone. It was just too wet to mess with. A lot of standing water.

Gary’s remote was giving him problems this week. Monday night he couldn’t get on the air. I went over and did exactly what I have told him many times to do when it doesn’t work and everything came back OK. I am having as much patience with Gary as I can. He is getting worse in terms of remembering things and being able to do things. Anyway, I went over Tuesday afternoon and all is good again now.

We were taking more hits than usual on the internet. You notice that more when you are streaming TV rather than using the cable box. I happened to be sitting at my computer in the shack when it went down a couple times and I noticed that the router was rebooting itself. I looked in the error log and couldn’t find any logical reason for it happening. So I decided to replace it. It was almost 7 years old so there is a lot newer technology available so I took advantage of it. Since I did that we have had no hits on the internet that I’ve noticed.

Tuesday night was the HAM club meeting in Shelbyville. One of the club members gave a class to some folks and had them tested over a weekend. One of the guys in the class asked if he could come to our meeting and give a presentation. It was suppose to be on EMI and radiation exposure. Well, this guy turned out to be a conspiracy theorist. I’m not sure what if any credentials he had but he certainly didn’t know who his audience was. We have at least on electrical engineer and I am a retired advanced technical support manager from AT&T. This guy was just ridiculous. Most of us just listened and ignored him because he was not one to be reasoned with. A wasted night.

Wednesday night was Carter’s band concert. They had both a 7th and 8th grade group. I’d say that with half the year being virtual learning, both bands did fantastic. Not the best I’ve heard but not the worst. And it was the band director’s first year teaching. In my opinion she did a fantastic job. Oh, and did I mention she had a nice ass as well.

I was suppose to be enjoying the day with my friend Mike Craycroft on Thursday but things didn’t turn out well. The service center was suppose to have his car for most of the day so we were going to go to the range. I had to get my hair cut early Thursday and while there Mike called to say they were already done with the car and he was going to head home. So I did the same. Got changed and out on the motorcycle. Put almost 140 mile on the bike. Managed to stop at a couple watering holes on the trip. Got home around 3PM. A good ride. Looking forward to another ride this coming week.

Got an email that Harbor Freight was having a sale on some items. I noticed they had workbench lights on sale so I went over and picked one up along with some other things on Friday. A 4 foot LED light with 5000 lumens for $20. I came home and put it up. Works great. Replaced the three incandescent lamp fixtures I had that really didn’t give me enough light every where I needed it.

Since I had the new light it really made the bench look like shit with all the stuff jammed back in the corner. So, Saturday I started cleaning things up. I need to get some storage containers to finish things. Perhaps I’ll make a run over to Walmart next week and see what they have?

Well that’s it this week. Hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. I am alive and well here in Texas. Thanks to all that sent well wishes! Well, it was supposed to be routine sinus surgery. The short version of the story…I had a severe right side sinus infection throughout. Surgeon went in and removed (as she described to me) a disgusting bunch of blood and puss. In the process of doing this, a hole developed in the sinus between my eyes (due to thin lining?). That hole was allowing cerebral spinal fluid to leak into the sinus. This obviously is not a good condition. The surgeon had fix this, so she took healthy tissue from my left sinus and used it as a plug to fill the hole. She was pretty sure she got it plugged but the standard of care is to then be overseen by a neurosurgeon to really be sure of no leaking. Well our local hospital does not have any neurosurgeons on staff, so I was transferred by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Trauma Hospital in the Houston Med Center. Was there for two days. I was observed and had CTScan with no further issues. Was sprung on Monday 10/11 from the hospital. The worst issue I have is I am not allowed to blow my nose yet. Do not want to disrupt the sinus plus until it heals. Ugh…I so want to do this. Saw the surgeon on 10/18 and all seem to be healing. See her again on 11/4. THEN, in the process of diagnosing the sinus issue, the original cat scan showed tooth #3 molar impinging on the right sinus. Sooo…did the tooth cause the sinus issue or sinus issue cause tooth issue. Anyway, that tooth was pulled today 10/20 (Wednesday). So far that went fine! Now off to a full recovery from all this mess! Sure didn’t plan on all the drama. And the week prior to sinus surgeon was my colonoscopy. So…I have had it with medical stuff for a while but, I see my new general doc on 11/1. Fingers crossed, nothing dramatic!! This is not retirement is for! Oh well, need to stay healthy.
By the way, it is never to early or too late to call my house. I am up all hours of the day, especially at night. For instance it is 1:45 am now!
Stay healthy and safe! Miss y’all!!
