Week Ending 10/1/22

An uneventful week here………………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

8/25/22 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Out to church with Kathy.  Home and lunch then down to do the blog.  Over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and picked up Kathy and off to Applebee’s for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

8/26/22 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Out to Wright Implement to pick up my D170 and a new mower deck belt.  Home and unloaded things and put the trailer away.  Lubricated the spindles on the mower deck and install the new drive belt.  Put the deck back on the D170 and all appears well.  Did some work on the generator.  Kathy was out running errands.  Came home with some groceries so I helped her unload.  Had lunch.  Then a short nap.  Downstairs to work on SVXLINK.  Kathy was off to take Chloe to a doctor’s appointment.  She came home and we had dinner.  Usual evening routine.

8/27/22 – Tuesday – Up a little late today.  Chores this morning.  Had lunch then outside to help Kathy with some trimming and spraying weeds.  Inside and worked on SVXLINK.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

8/28/22 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Spent the day in the shack cleaning things up.  Kitchenette area, radio desk and work bench are now all clean and ready for my next project.

8/29/22 – Thursday – Up a little early this morning.  Out to get Gary for our hair cuts.  After I dropped him off I ran errands.  Home and did research and ordered some things for my next project.  Kathy was up taking Chloe to the orthodontist.

8/30/22 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Had some things to do this morning at the house then Kathy and I went to the church to do the weekly cleaning.  Finished around 1:30 so we went to Taylorsville and the Chinese restaurant for take out.  Home and ate.  Put things away, cleaned up and a little nap.  Had a snack for dinner.  Kathy want shopping and I had my usual evening routine.

9/1/22 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy went up to Julie’s for the day.  I worked on getting my IC-735 setup for a headset.  Nothing else exciting for the day.  Had a sandwich for lunch.  Kathy came home late afternoon and we had left over Chinese for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

The biggest issue this week was hurricane Ian. Many people on the southwest shores of Florida were devastated. I checked in with a few people I know that live in, have property in or relatives in Florida and all are OK from what I gather. First was Lynn. She has a couple sisters and family in Florida but made out OK. My buddy Stan was suppose to go down and house sit last week but that got cancelled so he stayed in Georgia and is OK. Not sure about his place in Florida City but it should be OK. Then my friend and past co-worker Ron. They stayed in Denver and haven’t gone down to Florida yet. And he lives near where Lynn’s family live so they should be OK. But, keep the other people that didn’t do so well in your thought’s and prayers. It was definitely a devastating event.

The D170 had a blown crank case gasket and was in the shop. I got a call that it was ready the week before last while we were traveling. So I went over and picked it up Monday. Got a new belt for the mower deck, lubricated things and put it all back together. Everything seems good now. Just hope it doesn’t keep having problems. I’ve got about as much in it as I can afford right now.

I’ve had time to play with more HAM stuff lately. The SVXLink stuff I’m talking about is for enhancements on the repeater. I also started getting some things ready for Parks on the Air. I guess I got hook on that when I was at Jim’s place in Maryland. I’ll keep you posted on those things as I make progress.

I have a back doctor’s appointment early Monday this week. See if he can do something else for my back and the leg pain. I’ll let you know about that next week.

We have the Octoberfest coming up at the church this coming weekend so I’ll be busy this coming Friday and Saturday doing that.

Otherwise I’ve had more time to get on the air and have made some contacts. Some phone and some digital. But having fun.

As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.

  1. Didn’t get to read this until a week late. Sisters have the yard and debris all cleaned up from Ian. They faired very well considering the original path would have taken the storm over them. Phew…dodge a big one! Than you God!
