Week Ending 3/4/23

A very busy week………………………………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

2/26/23 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church with Kathy.  Ate lunch there.  Home and did the blog.  Out for the afternoon get together at Gary’s.  Home, picked up Kathy and out to Cattleman’s for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

2/27/23 – Monday – Up a little early this morning.  Off to a doctor’s appointment at the pain management center.  Got referred for PT and refill on pain medicine.  Home and lunch.  Transferred some money and worked on Kathy’s email problem.  Got on the treadmill at 3PM.  Then up for chores.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

2/28/23 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out for groceries with Kathy.  While out got a text from a guy at Godaddy.  He read my scathing feedback on the idiot I talked to yesterday and he wanted to try and help.  So we got home, put the things away.  Had lunch then started working on the problem with the new guy from Godaddy.  Got things done by almost 6PM.  Had dinner then usual evening routine.

3/1/23 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to pick up Todd at the airport.  He got in around 1PM.  Stopped at Arby’s on the way home for a light lunch.  Home and spent time with Todd.  Had dinner, got things ready to go to the range tomorrow and watched a movie before bed.

3/2/23 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Took our time, got cleaned up and Todd, Kathy and I went to the range to do some shooting.  Stopped for a late lunch at Chic-Fil-a.  Home and spent the rest of the day socializing.  Had dinner.  Usual evening routine.

3/3/23 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Spent the morning waiting for Julie to show up.  Finally left to meet her and the kids at the Recbar in J-Town.  Had lunch then spent some time playing pinball and video games.  Home and started the preparation for dinner.  Julie and the kids helped.  Then Mike came over and we had a big dinner.  The crowd played cards and I went to the shack.

3/4/23 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to J. C. Penny to have pictures taken with Todd.  Then to the food court at the mall for lunch.  Home and Todd decided to take his mother’s car and go on up to Julie’s.  Kathy and I took a nap.  Then up to the Long Horn Steakhouse for dinner with everyone.  Back to the Rice house for cake.  Then they played cards and I came home.

Now the specifics:

The big item of the week was Todd’s visit. He flew in around noon on Wednesday and Departed this morning at a little before 7AM. We did the usual trip to the range on Thursday morning. Then stopped at one of his favorites Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Then home and watched a movie. Had dinner then down and spent time cleaning guns. Julie took off work Friday so she could come over and spend some time with Todd without the kids but a lot of schools around here closed with the anticipated bad weather we were suppose to get Friday. So, she ran some errands and met us at the Recbar (I think that’s an abbreviation for Recreational Bar). Anyway, we all had lunch. And the place is packed with video games and pinball machines. So the kids, Todd, Julie and Kathy spent time playing games. Then home and cooked up a feast. Mike came over and we all had a great meal with all the things Todd likes. Then some played cards. I disappeared and went to the shack. Saturday morning we all got up and into J. C. Pennys for family pictures since Todd was here. Then had a bite to eat in the food court. I had a Gyro which is hard to find around here. Then home. Todd took his mother’s car and went up to Julie’s to spend time with the nieces and nephew. Then Kathy and I took the truck up to the Long Horn Steakhouse and we had Todd’s birthday dinner. Over to Mike and Julie’s for cake. Then they played cards and I came home. And that was most of the week.

I had my appointment with pain management folks Monday. I laid things out rather clearly and stated what I wanted and they had no problem helping me. She wrote a script for Physical Therapy. I called them Tuesday morning to make sure my insurance would cover it. And I have an appointment for Wednesday this week. I’ll tell you how that comes out next week.

Kathy had an issue with her email. Our outgoing mail server (SMTP) was belly aching that her account had been sending spam. We all know that is ridiculous. She can’t spell SPAM. But, I had to deal with it. I made a call to Godaddy that hosts my website and does our email and I got some baboon that only wanted to move us over to Microsoft 365. He said my problem was that I was on cPanel email. Now for those unfamiliar with the terms, the whole problem had nothing to do with any of what he was talking about. There is not such thing as cPanel email. cPanel is just one of many ways to manage email accounts. It doesn’t make the email cPanel email. I told him the last thing I wanted to do was have anything to do with Microsoft and he kept reiterating that was the only resolution to my problem. So, I got a request for feedback on him and needless to say it was less than flattering. I basically said the guy had no idea what he was talking about, he was no help resolving my problem and I was going to shop for a new hosting company. Tuesday while Kathy and I were out grocery shopping I got a text from a guy named Spencer who identified himself as being from quality control and wanted to help me out. So, after I got home and had lunch I texted him back with the particulars. He realized what the problem was and got the SMTP server people involved. They had me do some things to assure the integrity of my account and when I was done they lifted the block on Kathy’s email. Within 24 hours everything was good as new.

Thanks to all the folks that checked in on us with the bad weather this Friday. We had a lot of limbs down but none of the trees came down. It did blow my yagi antenna for my TARPN node to Radcliff off where it should be. I’ll have to find someone that can go up on the roof and fix that for me. It also broke a limb that my front End Fed antenna was connected to. I’ll have to get the sling shot out and lob another line up over the tree and re-secure that. Otherwise we were very lucky. Got a total of 2.5 inches of rain in 12 hours. I guess that’s not a lot for some people but it is a lot for around here.

OK, well that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way. Blog at you again next week.

  1. Sounds like y’all had a nice visit with Todd. Hope your PT starts working for your pain management. Nothing worse than nagging pain.
