Week Ending 7/10/26

An interesting week……………………………………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

7/5/26 – Sunday – Blew off church and going to Gary’s. We met up with the Rice family at Cracker barrel for dinner. Nothing else exciting.

7/6/26 – Monday – Kathy took Rusty to the vets for his routine checkup then ran some errands. I stayed home and did nothing.

7/7/26 – Tuesday – Made some phone calls and canceled my dentist appointment for tomorrow. Kathy went to the new cardiologist. We went out to dinner with the Mangums at Aspen Creek restaurant.

7/8/26 – Wednesday – I didn’t do much too much. Getting pieces of the order for my new radio. Otherwise an uneventful day.

7/9/26 – Thursday – Kathy was gone for her volunteer stint at the VA hospital. I spent the morning doing chores. Changed the furnace filter and fixed the light switch in Kathy’s sewing room. Order new batteries for my Ryobi power tools. Had lunch and took a nap till Kathy came home. Dinner and bed.

7/10/26 – Friday – Talked to several people about my up coming surgery including PT. Got the time I’m suppose to be at the hospital. Went to the Morton building and inventory lumber to make sure we had enough to finish bridge project. Then over to the condo that Julie and Mike own to look at some electrical issues. Back home and bed.

7/11/26 – Saturday – Up around 8AM. Mike and Julie came over to finish the work on the bridge. I spent most of the time sitting in the Morton building telling them where material and tools were. They finished up early afternoon and took off. Kathy and had lunch. Kathy took some thing to the laundry mat that she didn’t want to do in her washer. Then went grocery shopping. I took a nice long nap. She came home, we had dinner then usual evening routine.

Now the particulars:

If the chronology looks sketchy it’s because I didn’t keep close track on what I was doing this week.

Most of the week was getting prepared for my surgery on Monday. I got a call this week from Kort PT to setup my in house PT for the first two weeks after my surgery. I’m not real keen about Kort but they seem to be the only ones in the area that provide in house PT. So my advocate at the surgeons office understood and we will change that after the first two weeks and I’ll be going to Results Physiotherapy.

At some point this week I transitioned from a cane to a walker. To my surprise the walker is easier for me but much bulkier to handle. Of course maneuvering over and around two dogs that decide to lay anywhere they please presents a problem with both the cane and walker. Although I guess that walker is a little easier since Rusty is scared of it.

I got the arrival time of 6AM at the hospital so that’s good since I can eat or drink after midnight. But they do allow clear fluids after midnight and they want you to drink Gatorade the night before and the morning off.

Anyway, at some point Monday I should have been cut open and a new knee installed. Hopefully I’ll come out of the anesthesia well and get to go home on Monday.

Sorry for the confusing blabbering here but my head is not really squared off today.

Mike and Julie came over to finish the bridge work. I was probably going to spend a half day and pour some concrete where it washed out and relocate some rocks to deflect the flow of water. Since I hadn’t thought the thing through I gave my son-in-law Mike free rain to do whatever he wanted. Well that was a big mistake. We now have a concrete pad extending two feet off the bridge with new boards. Mud and rocks wedged places he thought need shoring up. What a cluster fuck. But it is done now. I had nothing to say and was able to keep my mouth shut the whole time. Yea, I know, some of you probably can’t believe that. lol

For many months I have been looking at a new radio. A Xiegu (Yea, that’s how you spell it) G90. It is a very compact low power radio that does everything including talking to you. I had never bought it since I always give myself a couple days and realize I don’t need another radio. Then I was thinking about all this down time I will have and what I’m going to do with my self since I really don’t like laying around watching television. So a company called Radioddity had a sell on this radio. It was $25 more and you got about $250 worth of accessories. So I pulled the trigger on that and got a new radio. It came in pieces with the accessories dribbling in but I got the radio this week and Kathy is going to bring up a card table and I can set it up in the living room to play with while I’m recovering.

I am sure at this point there are things I should have mentioned here but have totally forgotten. I will try to be more disciplined next week and keep up with the chronology. Otherwise, I have nothing more. As always, I hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
