A very good week………………………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
9/2/18 – Sunday – Up early, usual morning routine. Out to pick up Gary and to church. Home, another cup of coffee and cleaned up the kitchen. Downstairs and started my blog. Kathy came home and we had lunch. Downstairs to finish the blog. Upstairs and a nap. Up and out to meet with the guys at 3PM. Home and out to dinner at Cattleman’s Steakhouse with Kathy for dinner. Home and downstairs to solve a problem with my cell phone. Then played with my resurrected Radius radio. Upstairs and some chores. Bed, computer updates and sleep.
9/3/18 – Monday – Up at usual time and morning routine. Down to my room and checked HF to waste some time. Julie, Mike and the grand kids came over at noon and I did steaks on the grill. After lunch we took the kids out to the pool swimming. Spent most of the afternoon out there. Then inside and they left. Kathy and I took my Chrysler down to the repair center and then went over to Dairy Queen for a light sandwich. Back home and met the guys on 2 meters for a chat. Then some computer work/updates. Upstairs to bed, TV and sleep.
9/4/18 – Tuesday – Up a little late, didn’t sleep well last night. Kathy was already up and out to babysit the grand children. I got ready and went out to start the lawn. Worked till about 2PM and took a 1/2 hour break for a light lunch. Had as much as I could take by 3PM. Inside and cooled down. Cleaned up. Kathy came home and we had dinner. Then downstairs to meet the guys on the radio. Computer updates. Then upstairs to bed, Big Bang and sleep.
9/5/18 – Wednesday – Up a little late again. Didn’t sleep well again. Usual morning routine then downstairs to make the 10AM retirees net. Upstairs and dressed to go out and work on the yard. Stopped about noon. Had lunch then headed over to Gary’s to help him with his lawn tractor. Back home and continued working in the yard. Quit about 3PM and inside to cool down and shower. Had dinner then downstairs to meet the guys on the radio. Some computer work. Upstairs to bed, watching Big Bang and computer updates then sleep
9/6/18 – Thursday – Up very early. I guess that’s what happens when you go to bed at 9PM. Did morning routine and some chores. Got ready and out to get my hair cut. Then to the bank and the drug store. Home and picked up the wife and took her out to Olive Garden for lunch. Home and more chores. Then downstairs for computer work and scrounging for parts. Up for a light dinner. Back downstairs and met the guys on the radio at 6:30. Made the W4CN net at 8:30 and 9:05. Upstairs and a few chores, to bed, Big Bang and sleep.
9/7/18 – Friday – Up at the usual time. Didn’t feel well at all. I think the food at Olive Garden yesterday did a number on me. So, I stayed close to the house all day and was in the bathroom a lot. I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t eat much till late in the day. The rest of the day I spent looking for things to mount my VHF/UHF radio in the truck. Kathy left early afternoon to take care of the grand children then to church for the fish fry. She bought me some food on the way home. Finished things up and packed for tomorrow. To bed, computer updates, TV and sleep.
9/8/18 – Saturday – Up extremely early this morning. Usual morning routine without breakfast. Out and over to Gary’s for one of Loretta’s great breakfasts. Then down to Shepardsville for the Greater Louisville Hamfest. I picked up a few things I was looking for and bought a used meter and a couple kits to play with. Mike took his Extra Class test and passed. Then I went into the testing room and was a VE for a couple hours. Finished up there and headed home with a stop in Taylorsville to pick up lunch. Kathy was over at Mike and Julie’s helping paint. Took lunch home and ate, then to bed for a nap. Got up and did some chores around the house till Kathy came home. We talked awhile then had dinner. I went downstairs to check the radios and unload my stuff from the hamfest. Then upstairs, more chores, to bed, TV and sleep.
Now the specifics:
I had a record number of visitors and views this last week. To clarify, visitors are the number of people that viewed my blog while views are the number of articles they viewed. Had one person view 16 entries. Must have been catching up or was just very stubborn. lol Anyway, thanks to all for the attention.
We had a great Labor Day this week. Julie, Mike and the grand children all came over for a nice steak meal at noon. Mike has a big project at home so he went back early. Julie and the grand children stayed and we all went swimming. Spent most of the afternoon in the pool. We got cleaned up and Julie took the kids home. Kathy and I spent a little time cleaning things up. Then went out to drop my car off for service so while we were out we just stopped at Dairy Queen for a little snack for dinner. A very good day.
On the subject of the Chrysler, I think it’s seen better days. Things keep falling off it from age and it always bothers me till I have it checked out. This time it was a rubber bumper on the rear that keeps the rear end from bottoming out on the frame. Not really an integral part of the vehicle and a very difficult part to find. So we didn’t do anything with it. Also got the oil changed while it was there. They do it cheaper than I can buy the oil and filter at the auto parts store.
I think I made the last trip to Gary’s to work on his lawn tractor. He hadn’t adjusted anything and couldn’t see enough to figure out why he couldn’t increase the speed of the engine. I found the adjustment and took care of it for him in about 10 minutes. There are definite advantages to being able to see what you are doing. That is why I never feel imposed on to go over and help him out. But it is funny sometimes. I think because of his lack of good sight he tends to over intellectualize things. So I simply tell him to throw that stuff out, do some observation, a little basic logic and a guess. I’m usually successful. But it did apparently bother him. I did it Wednesday and although he acted extremely surprised I resolved the problem so quick, it took him four days before he gathered his thoughts to ask me how I figured it out.
The Louisville Hamfest was this Saturday in Shepardsville. Gary’s wife usually fixes breakfast for the three of us the morning of the event. So we all meet at Gary’s around 6AM, have breakfast and talk about what we expect to accomplish. Mike took his test to upgrade to Extra like I did last year. They had a variety of vendors this year. A company called Debco always show up and have a lot of neat things for sale. I picked up a couple power cables I was looking for. Most of the used stuff was over priced as always however I did get a good deal on a power meter. I already have one like it but now I’ll have twins to monitor power on my two systems. Picked up a couple toy projects. A counter and digital oscilliscope. Took a good bit of money but didn’t find several things I was looking for so I need to re-deposit a lot of it this week.
I also did my first session as a Volunteer Examiner. They have ham tests for people that want to become hams or upgrade their license. You must have at least 3 VEs score and validate the tests before the results are confirmed. So I met a few guys doing that. Otherwise I had a great time for the day.
Well you know the media is hard pressed for quality news when today’s USA Today insert in the paper had a front page article about the majority of millennials sleeping nude. Now that bit of information will definitely determine the outcome of the elections. I just can’t get over the blatant stupidity of the people writing for the media these days.
Last but not least I want everyone here to remember the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. They occurred on 9/11/2001. They involved two commercial airliners that were flown into the World Trade Center towers as well as a commercial airliner that was flown into the Pentagon in Washington, DC and another plane whose target was aborted by passengers on board the plane and was crashed into a field near Pittsburgh, PA. 2,996 people confirmed dead at the time with well over 6,000 injured. Many, Many more to die well afterward from a variety of induced issues. Please take a moment and pray for the families of these victims. Let us never forget.
With that I will close for this week. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day as I did. And wish all a great week to come. Blog at you again next week.
