Week Ending 3/23/19

A very busy and stressful week…………………………………..

As always, first the chronology:

3/17/19 – Sunday – Up and out to pick up Gary for church. Home, coffee and new paper. Kathy came home and we had lunch. Went to the bathroom and was running water in the tub when the handle of the valve broke off with it still running. Spent the rest of the day dealing with that problem. Dinner at the Mexican restaurant. Home, did the blog, played radio, upstairs to bed, TV, computer work and sleep.

3/18/19 – Monday – Spent the day trying to get the shower valve apart with no luck. Ended up getting a new valve assembly. Started late as I think my body was rebelling against the Mexican food last night. Chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Cleaned things up. To bed, Big Bang, computer work and sleep.

3/19/19 – Tuesday – Up and chores around the house. Out to pick up Gary to have lunch with the minister. Home and worked on the shower plumbing. Then out to dinner with Julie, Mike, Dee and the grand children to celebrate Julie and my birthday. Stopped at Lowes for more supplies and home. Finished mounting the new valve and connected the shower head and supply lines. Knocked off for the night. Bed, TV, computer updates and sleep.

3/20/19 – Wednesday – Up and finished up the final plumbing on bathtub. Then fixed the hole I cut to get to the plumbing. Kathy off to Dare to Care. I cleaned up and headed over. Helped setup and had dinner. Didn’t feel well so came home early. Downstairs for some computer work. Upstairs, dessert, bed, Big Bang and sleep.

3/21/19 – Thursday – Up and out for hair cut. Chores around the house. Kathy got her hair done then we went out to run errands. Had lunch on the way. Home and more chores around the house. Light dinner. Computer work, TV and sleep.

3/22/19 – Friday – Up and started chores. Busy cleaning up the house for Kathy’s church group that’s coming Monday evening. Then up to see Chloe and Shelby in the elementary school talent show.

3/23/19 – Saturday – Up and chores around the house. Took the lawn tractor back down to the Morton building. Got Kathy’s golf cart off the battery conditioner and took it for a ride. Needed to get it going for her get together Monday night. Then to my room to play radio and do some research. Computer updates, bed, TV and sleep.

Now the particulars:

Hang on, this ride is going to be a long one.

Last Sunday after lunch I was in the bathroom and was running water in the tub when I realized that the handle for the water valve in the tub was in my hand.  It had rusted over time and broken off inside the valve.  The wife and I looked in vain for shut off valves and there were none to be found.  So, I shut off the water to the house then started looking to see how to get to the pipes behind the tub.  After cutting through the side of a built in closet and a layer of drywall I got to the pipes.  Still no shutoff valves.  So, a quick trip to Lowes for two Sharkbite valves, back home, cut the pipes, install the valves and turned on the water to the house.  Then took the next two days to get it fixed.  Monday was wasted with them trying to explain how to get the cartridge out of the valve housing.  Again, after many tries I gave that up and got new hardware.  I started the job late Monday and with all the interruptions got the fixtures replace and the wall sealed up a little after lunch on Wednesday.  I now know how to do plumbing using PEX tubing and Sharkbite fittings.

Tuesday was full of interruptions.  For some reason the minister wanted to have lunch with Gary and me.  So, we met him at FDKY and had barbecue.  And being it was my birthday, Kathy decided we should go out to dinner at another barbecue place to celebrate my birthday and Julie’s birthday that was Monday.

On top of all that, Kathy has been cleaning up a storm around the house this past week.  Yes, you guessed it, she is having the ladies group from church meeting here at the house this coming Monday night.  So, on top of everything else, I had a to do list of items that needed done for that.  You see some of the ladies do not maneuver stairs well so my detail is to get Kathy’s golf cart cleaned up so I can pick them up in the driveway and take them around to the back of the house where they can just walk in at ground level and be downstairs.

On Wednesday while at Dare to Care helping, I started feeling very bad.  Same stuff I used to have in New York that made me feel like I was having a heart attack but they never found anything.  So, I just save the trouble now and tough through it.  Started feeling much better by Saturday with a few lingering problems that I suspect will go away in time.

The other thing that took time this week was my UPS crapping out.  Seems one of the terminals that snapped on the battery was loose, heated up and went open.  I pulled the battery drawer out and fixed it but the batteries are week so I ordered a new set to get that back in full operation. Of course when it crapped out it spiked and I had to re-program one of my routers and restart things from scratch which took another couple hours.

Last but not least (I saved the best to last) last Friday was the talent show at the elementary school where the grand children attend.  Carter was going to do some karate but changed his mind.  Shelby wanted to sing a song and I was asked to accompany her on the piano.  However, the powers to be at the school said I couldn’t do that so I figured out what she needed and I recorded it on a CD for her.  Here is my lovely grand daughter Shelby singing in the talent show:

Of course my other grand daughter Chloe wanted to get in that act so she did a ballet number.  (I didn’t have to accompany her on that).  But she did a beautiful job.  Here is Chloe.

Needless to say I was extremely proud of both the girls.  They did an excellent job.

Well, that is the story for this week.  Hope everyone is good and will have a great week to come.  Blog at you again next week.
