Not a very good week…………………………….

As Always, first the chronology:

4/21/19 – Sunday – Happy Easter. No 8:30 church service today so I didn’t go to church. Helped Kathy prepare some of the things we plan to take up to Mike and Julie’s for lunch. Went up there, had dinner and I spent time with Mike going over some of the things he needed done. Home and mowed the lawn by the house. It was too wet other places so I’ll leave that till another day. Inside and a late dinner. Chores, blog, bed, Big Bang and sleep.

4/22/19 – Monday – Up and chores around the house. Then out to the dentist’s office. He told me to go see another guy that does root canals to see if the tooth can be saved or needs to be pulled. Then over to the Land Rover parts department for headlight bulbs and a bracket for Mike’s car. Home and out to work on the lawn. Kathy was at a meeting and came home late afternoon and helped me awhile. Inside and cleaned up. Dinner. Downstairs to meet the guys on 2 meters. Upstairs to read. Bed and sleep.

4/23/19 – Tuesday – Finished the book Origin by Dan Brown and played some radio this morning. Kathy had a routine doctor’s appointment. Had lunch then up to see the endodontist about the tooth I broke. He said he would not do a root canal and it should be extracted. So, back home. Then out on the bike for a short ride around the county. Stopped at my regular dentist and got an appointment to have the tooth pulled. Home and put things away. Played radio then dinner. Back down to chat with the guys on 2 meters. Computer updates and some reading. Bed, Big Bang and sleep.

4/24/19 – Wednesday – Up and took care of some banking and got the Vibe scheduled for the rest of it’s recalls. Chores around the house. Then to the dentist for a 2PM appointment to have my tooth pulled. A very difficult experience. Picked up the prescription for pain medication on the way home. Sat in front of the computer and started loading DXspider. Kathy came home and went out to get me some Wonton soup. Computer updates and bed.

4/25/19 – Thursday – Spent the day trying to get the pain medication out of my body. Napped in the morning. Then after lunch downstairs to work on DXspider. Dinner, chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Did more work on DXspider. Bed, Big Bang and sleep.

4/26/19 – Friday – Up and continued working on DXspider. Kathy helped me get it under the desk. Finished up the maintenance on the rototiller. Met the guys on 2 meters. Bed some reading and sleep.

4/27/19 – Saturday – Up to Mike and Julie’s for some chores. Home and looked at the mail box that got destroyed last night. Went to Lowes and bought a new one. Mike came over and we did maintenance on his care. To the house and chatted till Julie started over. I did burgers and dogs on the grill. Mike and I went back to the Morton building to do some work but had the wrong tools. Back to the house and did computer work. Bed, Big Bang and sleep.

Now the particulars:

Last Sunday was Easter and the church only had one service.  For the life of me I don’t understand it.  There are more “Live and Die” Christians (Those that only attend church on Christmas and Easter) than any other kind so it seems to me you would have both services to accommodate all of them rather then just have one.  But they hire people to come play music and entertain and put on a big production so I guess they only want to do that once.  Anyway, being they cancelled the 8:30 service, I didn’t go to church and neither did Kathy.  Kathy spent a lot of time preparing food that we took up to Mike and Julie’s.  It was just us, the Rice family and our friend Dee.

A couple weeks ago I broke a tooth.  Made an appointment to go in last Monday to have it looked at but the dentist’s wife went into labor on the Friday before and delivered a baby late Saturday.  So, my Dentist was off for the week and I got in this last Monday.  He thought it should be pulled but sent me to an Endodontist to get a second opinion.  I did that Tuesday and the Endodontist said it should be pulled.  So, Wednesday I went back to my dentist and had it pulled.  I was in the chair a little before 2PM and never got out till almost 3:30.  He had one helluva time getting it all out.  He told me he would never try to extract another tooth of mine and would sent me to an oral surgeon.  He gave me a prescription for pain medicine and didn’t give me an option.  Told me to take it before the Novicane wears off.  So, I started that at 4PM Wednesday afternoon and took it every 4 hours till sometime after 4AM on Thursday.  Ended up spending the rest of the day Thursday trying to get the Novicane and pain medication out of my system.  Finally started feeling normal Friday morning.

I was told not to do any strenuous activity and go home and rest.  The only thing I could think of doing to keep me from going completely insane was to play with computers.  I have been wanting to learn a little about DXspider so I pulled out one of my junk computers (an old pentium 3 machine) and loaded Ubuntu then loaded DXspider.  It is a software package used in a DX cluster that allows one person that picks up a good contact to send it to the rest of the world (or those logged into the cluster) telling everyone who and where on the bands the contact is.  I got it all working but need to talk to some folks about integrating it into the other systems that exist today.

Monday I picked up headlight bulbs from the Land Rover dealer for Mike’s vehicle.  We have been replacing those bulbs with those we got at the auto parts store but they have only been lasting 6 months.  A little research said that the only bulbs that really last in the vehicle are those you get from the dealer.  I don’t understand what the difference is but we will try it.  He came over yesterday and that was one of the things we did to his Land Rover.

Did manage to finish up the maintenance on all but one of the push mowers.  It’s going to take some parts so I put it at the bottom of the list.  I’ll add up what I need to put it back in normal working condition.  If the cost of the parts starts approaching 1/2 of what a replacement mower would cost we should probably just get a replacement for it.

Yesterday morning the neighbor across the street came over to let us know that someone in a red pickup hit our mail box the night before.  They managed to completely destroy it so I went to Lowes and bought a new one.  Need to see if I can straighten the post today and get it fixed.
