Another busy week……………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
6/28/20 – Sunday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Kathy went to church and I went downstairs to do the blog. Kathy came home and we had lunch. I spent the rest of the day working on the computer doing research. Played with my new radio awhile. Upstairs for dinner. Back downstairs for more computer work and updates. Upstairs to bed. Big Bang and sleep.
6/29/20 – Monday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Cleaned up and out to the Morton building to checkout a compressor and some air hose. Got the trailer cleaned off. Will need it later this week to haul lumber for Mike and me. Inside and lunch. Then downstairs to do some reading and research. Put the new radio on the main bench to try out. Up for dinner. Back downstairs to chat with the guys on 2 meters. Computer updates. Upstairs, bed, code practice, TV and sleep.
6/30/20 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Cleaned up and downstairs to play radio. Put the old Yeasu back on the HAM desk. Need more work on the new radio. Had lunch and Kathy took off to pick up Chloe to get her hair done. She brought Shelby back so I spent time with her while Kathy took Chloe to the hair place. Kathy came back and I took a nap. Up and waited for Kathy to come home. Then took her to Hometown Pizza for dinner. Back and downstairs to chat with the guys on 2 meters. Upstairs and practiced CW. Kathy went grocery shopping and came back. Helped her unload and put things away. To bed, Big Bang, computer updates and sleep.
7/1/20 – Wednesday – Up a little early and usual morning routine. Cleaned up and out with the trailer to pick up lumber for my son-in-law Mike. Took that back to his house and dropped it off. Back home and dropped the trailer. Kathy was back from her doctor’s appointment. Talked awhile and had lunch. Then out to Harbor Freight to pick up some nails for my nail gun. Swung past Point Blank shooting range to verify they are open and they are. Back home and ordered some lattice from Lowes in Shelbyville. Checked the radio and made my first contact with a 13 original colonies station in New Hampshire. Checked my emails and they only have 15 pieces and I need at least 45 to do the complete job. Kathy came back from getting her hair done and we decided on burgers on the grill. Had dinner, chatted with the guys on 2 meters then over to Shelbyville to get the 15 pieces of lattice they had for me. Home and put the truck away. Bed and tried to get Sling to work to no avail. Computer updates, some Youtube and sleep.
7/2/20 – Thursday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Cleaned up and out to Lowes on Brownsboro Road for more Lattice. Home and unloaded. Took the golf cart over to the Morton building and brought the compressor, hose and nail gun back. Then started putting the lattice up in the storage area over the garage. Took a break for lunch and continued till it got too hot. Cleaned things up and in the house to cool down and clean up. Downstairs for computer work. Upstairs for dinner. Back downstairs and chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Computer updates, cleanup work. Upstairs to bed, code practice, Big Bang and sleep.
7/3/20 – Friday – Up a little late and the usual morning routine. Out around 10:30 to start the yard work. Took a break for lunch and finished up around 4PM. Cooled down and got cleaned up. Dinner then downstairs to chat with the guys on 2 meters. Computer updates then upstairs and helped Kathy unload groceries. Bed, computer work, TV and sleep.
7/4/20 – Saturday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Chores around the house then cleaned up and downstairs to catch some of the 13 colonies stations on HAM radio. The Rice family came over around 5PM and we had dinner. Then out to the pool till 8PM. Inside and cleaned up. Rice family left. Downstairs and bagged another 13 original colonies station. Computer updates, upstairs to bed, TV and sleep.
Now the particulars:
Kathy has a lot of stuff stored in a storage space over the garage. But the insulation between the rafters keeps coming down and she keeps fixing it with duck tape. Then the heat gets to it, the adhesive on the tape lets go and she has the same problem over and over again. So, I looked on the internet and one good idea I saw was to use lattice installed perpendicular to the rafters to hold it in place. So I ordered some lattice from Lowes in Shelbyville assuming they would get what I needed and let me know they had it then I could go get it. Instead, they looked at what they had and refunded me the money for what they didn’t have and simply gave me what they had. So, I got that then went to another Lowes and got the remaining material I needed. Got nails for the nail gun and got everything I needed over to the garage at the house. We spend time Thursday working on it. Spent about 3 hours and got about 25% done. It was the worst as it was the last area they insulated and they were piecing things together. The rest should go much faster. Worst part of the job is moving things around to get the lattice where we want it.
Friday we spent the day doing yard work. It was hot and humid so only the absolute necessary parts got done. But it looks good for the 4th of July weekend.
Put the new radio on the radio table and tried it this week. It’s a little off frequency and has some audio issues so I put the one back that I fixed and I’ll do more work on the new radio as time allows.
Been trying to practice code but I guess I’m not very disciplined. Have not made much progress. Maybe I wasn’t meant to work CW on the radio.
Well Fubo dropped TBS and a bunch of other channels. That means I can’t watch Big Bang reruns. Needless to say I looked around for a replacement. Found that Sling carries TBS so I worked on that two days till I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. So now we have Sling and I think Kathy will drop Fubo at the end of the month.
This time around the 4th of July they run a little exercise where they activate a HAM station in each of the 13 original colonies plus a couple extra for a week. The objective is to contact all the 13 original colonies. Then there are a couple extra station like WM3PEN at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. GB13COL in England and a bonus station and I have no idea where that is. Anyway, I have 11 of the original 13 colonies and I have till midnight UTC on Tuesday to get the rest. Usually the last couple are very difficult. But I’ll keep trying.
We had the family over for the 4th. Burger, Brats, Dogs and a brisket along with green bean bake, baked beans, scalloped potatoes and a lot of dessert. Then out to the pool. I think everyone had a good time.
Well that’s it for this week. Hope this finds everyone well. Stay safe and healthy. Blog at you again next week.
