A very busy week again, got a lot done………………….
As always, first the chronology:
8/23/20 – Sunday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Cleaned up and downstairs to do the blog. Played radio then upstairs to make myself lunch. Kathy went up to church with Julie today. Did chores around the house. Kathy came home and I went over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Home and computer work. Dinner and downstairs to play radio. More computer updates then upstairs for more chores. Bed, TV and sleep.
8/24/20 – Monday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Had planned on making this a motorcycle day but I apparently ate something that didn’t agree with me last night and I don’t think a motorcycle ride would be a good thing. Kathy was up and out to spend the day with Julie to get the grand kids started on the first day of distance learning. I spent the day doing banking and other paper work. Played radio. Got all my logs submitted and up to date. Kathy came home and we had dinner. Chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Played more radio and did computer updates. Upstairs to bed, TV and sleep.
8/25/20 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Stayed around the house this morning because the guys from the state highway garage were coming to check on the driveway request I made. Left the house around 11:30 after they left. Got gas and over to Shelbyville for a couple bushel of sweet corn. Then into Preston Highway to Hooters for lunch. Back out to Taylorsville and dropped off the poll officer applications for Kathy and me at the county clerks office. Home and unloaded the corn and put the truck away. Kathy came home and we had burgers and dogs on the grill. Chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Practiced CW, bed, Big Bang and sleep.
8/26/20 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Down to pick up ice to use for the corn. Spent the first 4 hours of the day blanching the corn, cutting it off the cob, putting it in freezer bags and into the freezer. Cleaned up and out to Cracker Barrel for a late lunch, early dinner. Showed Kathy the farm I got the corn at. Then a stop at Rural King for a few things. Back over to Taylorsville for ice cream at Dairy Queen. Home and more chores. Chatted with the guys on 2 meters. More chores. Bed, computer updates, Big Bang and sleep.
8/27/20 – Thursday – Up at the usual time and usual morning routine. Out to see Gary. Worked on his stuff till noon. Home and lunch. Started getting things together to build an audio interface for Gary. Up for dinner. Chatted with Mike on 2 meters briefly. Upstairs to bed, computer work, Big Bang and sleep.
8/28/20 – Friday – Up a little early, usual morning routine and up to Mike and Julie’s house. Did some work with Mike on mounting a track for a punching bag in his fitness room. Home and had lunch. Put together a little interface for Gary then over to his house to help him. Nothing but problem after problem. Home and did some calculations on Mike’s project. Dinner. Back to the math. Finished up, did computer updates. Bed, TV and sleep.
8/29/20 – Saturday – Up early this morning, usual morning routine, out and hitched the trailer to the truck and up to my son-in-law’s. We went up to Lowes to pick up a couple sheets of sheet rock for him. Stopped and had breakfast at Bob Evans. Back and dropped off sheet rock and home. Un-hitched the trailer and put things away. In for lunch. Took a little nap. Then worked on Gary’s computer. Up and did burgers and dogs on the grill and had some sweet corn on the cob. Chatted with the guys on 2 meters. Computer updates. Chore, bed, Big Bang and sleep.
Now the specifics:
The only day this week that was good for motorcycle riding was Monday. And as luck would have it I woke up with some stomach issues. Must not have eaten the right things on Saturday. The rest of the week was raining or too damn hot. Let’s hope this week is better.
Played radio a lot this week. Bands are coming back a little. Not great but I made some good contacts into France, Spain and South America. Still have the issues of putting the radio in my truck and doing some more work on the audio. But they are on the back burner right now. Too much other stuff on my plate.
The big accomplishment for the week was freezing some corn. Above are 4 pictures of our efforts. Kathy had mentioned it awhile ago so I had time Tuesday and went after the corn. Got 2 bushels for $22 a bushel at a local farm stand. Wednesday bright and early I got up and went after ice. I started husking it, Kathy cleaned it then into a pot of boiling water for 4 minutes then into and ice bath for 4 minutes. We took turns at doing the cooking part. Then Kathy cut the corn from the cobs and I put it into the freezer bags. We had a total of a little over 10 dozen ears of corn. Ended up with 40 quart freezer bags with 3 cups of corn each. We figure that will do us and the Rice family for the winter. It was 4+ hours of work but we did well together and had fun. In case you didn’t notice the arrows on the sides of the picture, you can scroll through the pictures by clicking them.
The rest of my week I spent helping other people. Gary still had noise on the transmit side of his remote system so I went over Thursday and measured the noise out of the link between the house and the barn where his radio shack is. No noise. So the only place remaining was the audio interface he built. I tried to do some trouble shooting but it was not put together the way his drawing said. So I broke down and said I’d build another one for him. That night he said his radio needed a reboot so I want over Friday afternoon. Didn’t see anything wrong with the radio so decided to reboot the linux computer to see if that was the problem. Of course the linux machine would not come back up so I brought that home with me. Looked at it Saturday and realized it is a hack job from our other friend Mike. So I’m going to give it to him and have him resolve the issues with it.
Friday I went over to my son-in-law’s place to look at how he can put up the track for is punching bag in the exercise room. It’s not going to be easy as he wants it at a 45 degree angle to the way the floor joist are running overhead. I spent a few hours doing some math and and it will only go across 5 or 6 of them and I don’t think that’s enough to support things. I need to make a drawing with a template and see what the best way will be to put it up. While I was there he mentioned he needs to get some drywall to replace a wall that is bowed. So Saturday early I drove the truck over with the trailer and we went to Lowes for the drywall. Stopped on the way home for breakfast at Bob Evan’s so that was good.
Well that’s about it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Be careful out there and stay healthy. Blog at you again next week.
