An interesting week………………………………………….
As always, first the chronology:
3/7/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Down to do the blog. Did some looking for recipe website software. Took my service monitor apart and fixed the push buttons. Found a couple broken bolts I need to replace before I put it together. Ordered a couple new batteries for the DC power supply. Julie, Mike and the grand kids came over for dinner. Usual evening routine.
3/8/21 – Monday – Up a little early and out to visit the Kennedy’s to look at their UHF repeater. Spent the morning. Home and had lunch. Called MyQ tech support to resolve the garage door issue. Downstairs and ordered 24 small machine screws from boltdepot. Out of those I’m bound to get 4 good ones to replace the ones that broke off on the service monitor. Took a nap. Dinner and usual evening routine.
3/9/21 – Tuesday – Up a little early as Kathy was up getting ready to go watch the grand kids. I got cleaned up and out for my second COVID vaccine shot. It was drive through and everything was very efficient. In and out in 1/2 hour which included waiting around 15 minutes in case of any problems. Home and got the motorcycle ready to take to the shop. In the house and checked the bands. They were in bad shape. Worked on some computer things and upstairs for lunch. Kitchen chores. An hour nap then out to take the motorcycle to the dealer for service. Kathy picked me up and we went down to Mt. Washington to a new place called Milano’s. Had a nice dinner then home. Usual evening routine.
3/10/21 – Wednesday – Woke up at 5 AM today with every muscle and joint in my body hurting. Checked with the authority and he said it was possible to last 12 to 18 hours. So I should be OK by tomorrow. Carter was not feeling well today so Kathy brought him over here. Played cribbage with him awhile this afternoon. Made an orthopedic appointment to find out why my left leg doesn’t work all the time. Usual evening routine other than I cut it short and went back to bed.
3/11/21 – Thursday – Up at the usual time. Kathy was already out to watch the grandchildren. Did some chores around the house and put the new batteries in the service monitor. Then out to Gary’s to help him with his tractor. Stopped at DQ on the way home to pick up a chicken sandwich for lunch. Home and ate. Some kitchen chores then downstairs to work on the recipe website. Usual evening routine.
3/12/21- Friday – Up at the usual time. Kathy went off to shop at Costco. I worked on fine tuning the recipe site. Kathy came home and we unloaded groceries and had lunch. Then into Louisville to get my motorcycle. Back home and put things back as they were before it went for service. Chores then out to Fiesta Mexicana for dinner. Home and usual routine.
3/13/21 – Saturday – Up at the usual time. Kathy was already up and out for her second COVID vaccine shot. I checked the radio bands and made a contact to Lithuania. Tried some digital modes but there is an RTTY contest this weekend. So, did more recipe stuff till Kathy got home. She had a headache and layed down. I made some lunch for myself. Did some chores outside. Got the tractor back over to the Morton building and got the Golf Cart ready to use this summer. Took a nap. Up and down to watch some videos. Dinner and usual evening routine.
Now the particulars:
I guess the most exciting thing for me is the new recipe site is up and running. I wrote a post that I published yesterday explaining the site. Please read it all before you start. I did not get a security certificate for the domain and the post explains why and what that means. Please feel free to contribute. I put my Jambalaya recipe out there.
I took the motorcycle into Louisville on Tuesday to the dealership to have it service. They had it scheduled for early Wednesday morning. It was rather expensive this time because they did all the 50,000 mile work on it. My friend Mark that is the service advisor was really overwhelmed on Wednesday so he didn’t get to call me till Thursday that it was done. Kathy was already up babysitting the grand kids so I waited till the weather broke on Friday afternoon and went over to get it. It’s back in the Morton building and ready for the year.
Saturday I got ambitious and took the tractor off the battery tender and removed the chains on the rear wheels. Then took everything over to the Morton building. Don’t think we’ll have any significant snow fall this season that will require plowing. While out and about I turned the water back on the shop so I have a place to wash my hands down there. I also took the golf cart off the battery tender and it’s ready for the summer weather.
Last Sunday I got my service monitor out to make sure all was good before going over to visit the new UHF repeater site here in Spencer County. To my dismay I discovered it had not come back from the person I lent it to in the same shape it left. I took it apart to start doing some maintenance and discovered some broken machine screws, two dead batteries and a deteriorated filter on the ventilation fan. So I ordered all that material during the week. I got the batteries Wednesday. The filter material was suppose to be here Friday and the machine screws Saturday. But the filter material and the screws all came Friday. So I finished up all the work on the service monitor and it’s like new.
When I arrived here in Spencer County there were no repeaters in the county. The story I got was that a guy tried to put one up on the county’s communication tower but as politics goes in the area, things got bogged down. So he gave it to a young couple that put up a 40 foot tower on their farm and installed the repeater in their implement shed. It was not performing as they expected so I offered my assistance. We are still working on it but I’m sure we will get it up to where it should be eventually. I’ll keep you advised.
Got my second COVID vaccine shot on Tuesday morning around 9AM. Felt fine all day but woke up around 5AM on Wednesday morning with every muscle and joint in my body hurting. I wasn’t really sure what was causing it, the shot or the motorcycle ride the previous day. Late in the morning I texted Mike (My son-in-law) and he said that was common and would probably last 12 to 18 hours. So early afternoon I gave in and took some Motrin. That seemed to help. I took another dose around 7PM. Got to sleep and apparently sweat it off in the night. Woke up Thursday morning feeling like myself. Not a bad price to pay for getting 97% immunity.
Made a trip over to Gary’s on Thursday to help with an issue on a lawn tractor. His grandson had been working on it and I could not figure out how things were suppose to go. So I told him he had to find someone more knowledgeable then me to work on it.
The only other remarkable thing was getting notice on Friday that my new eye glasses are ready for pickup. I have an appointment Monday at the orthopedic people about my back so I’ll stop at the bank and take care of the banking that needs done. Then pick up Kathy and take a ride into Oxmoor Mall and pick them up. Might run some other errands while out and about.
That’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Please stay that way. Blog at you again next week.
Trying to get an appointment for my COVID vaccine. With all the seniors in Florida, the appointments fill quickly. I will get one eventually. Denise (sister) got het first shot on 3/10, Earl (her husband) this Tuesday. Diane (sister) and Allen (her husband) all completed. I also need a tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough) vaccine because my nephew (Brandon) and his wife (Sara) will be having their baby the first week of April and they requested everyone have that and their flu shot. Had the flu shot but not looking forward to the tdap. I will just go rake some leaves and work out the muscle soreness.
I will sort out my recipes and post some as soon as I can.
