Week Ending 4/10/21

Not a bad week…………………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

4/4/21 – Sunday – Up a little late.  Didn’t sleep well last night.  Did PT and the Blog.  Had lunch then cleaned up.  Played with Bluegriffon till around 3:30PM.  Then loaded the car and up to Mike and Julie’s for Easter Dinner.  Back home and usual evening routine.

4/5/21 – Monday – Up a little early.  Out for Physical Therapy.  Back home and some chores.  Lunch and out for yard work.  In around 4:30PM, cleaned up and dinner.  Usual evening routine.

4/6/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was off to spend the day with Mike, Julie and the grandchildren.  I did chores around the house then took off to get gas in the truck and do some grocery shopping at Kroger.  Home and put the lightning arrestor on the vertical antenna.  Kathy came home and we went to Milano’s for dinner.  Stopped at Dairy Queen for dessert.  Home and usual evening routine.

4/7/21 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Made more potato soup and Don Guazon sandwichs.  Then out to Lowes and Walmart in Shelbyville for some shopping.  Stopped at Arby’s for a good roast beef sandwich for lunch.  Home and put Turf Builder down on the front yard.  Put the potato soup in freezer containers for later use.  Quick nap, dinner and usual evening routine.

4/8/21 – Thursday – Up a little early, cleaned up and out for Physical Therapy.  Home and changed.  Did some computer work and updates.  Kathy went horse back riding with the grandchildren.  She called when they were done and I met them at a new place for a late lunch.  Home and chores around the house.  A nap.  Up for dinner and usual evening routine.

4/9/21 – Friday – Up at the usual time and down to play radio.  Bands were not great but I chatted with a guy in Italy briefly on 20 meters then checked into the East CARS and South CARS nets on 40 meters.  Then some chores around the house.  Had lunch and took the Vibe down to Autozone to see why the check engine light was on.  Said it’s a vacuum canister that cost $350.  I think something probably built a nest somewhere.  I’ll have a look later.  Stopped at the hardware store then home.  Took off on the motorcycle for a short spin around the county.  Came home and did some maintenance on it.  Took a nap then out to the Yoki Chinese Buffet with Julie and the grand kids.  Home and usual evening routine.

4/10/21 – Saturday – Up a little early and cleaned up.  My son-in-law came over and I made bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast.  Then we made a batch of Jambalaya.  We had that for lunch and he took a bunch home with him.  I spent some time cleaning up the kitchen.  Then a nap.  Up and chores.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

Now the particulars:

Happy Easter. Sunday we had the normal ritual of everyone making food then getting together and over indulging. This year it was Kathy’s turn to cook the ham which we took up to the Rice home for dinner. Mike had to work so this arrangement accommodated his schedule.

Monday we did the yard work for the first time this year. I also got ambitious and got some Turf Builder and put on the front area this year. I have mixed emotions about wanting it to work. It cost $186+ for enough material to cover the front yard. If it doesn’t work I’m out the money. But if it does work then I need to spend I’d guess another $500 to $600 to buy enough material to cover the rest of the yard. Either way I’m out money.

The kids were off school this past week for spring break. Tuesday and Thursday they had event’s planned. Tuesday they took them to the underground caves a little south of here. They have a petting zoo as well as some other activities to keep the kids busy. Kathy was gone most of the day. Then Thursday they went horse back riding. They were riding from 11AM to Noon. They called me after they were done and I met them at a wiz bang Million’s Crab and Seafood place. Mike has a penchant for trying out these new places and this one sucked royally. But I smiled and ate what I ordered since Mike was paying the bill. I don’t think we will be going back there.

Tuesday I went shopping while Kathy was busy. Got things to make more potato soup and to make Don Guazon sandwich’s. The potato soup I made the first time went very quickly and we decided we needed some in the freezer to get out if we are in a hurry. So Wednesday we did that and made Don Guazon sandwiches. I really should put them on the recipe site. You use chopped ham, Longhorn Colby cheese, olives, salad dressing and a few other ingredients and just combine them. Then put a couple spoon fulls in a hamburger roll. Wrap them in aluminum foil and put in the freezer. Then if you want a quick hot sandwich you just put them in the oven for 20 minutes. It melts the cheese and tastes very good. I’ll try to get that in the recipe site in the next week or so.

PT is moving along. Not sure how much it’s going to do but things are improving. I was out on the motorcycle for about a 40 mile ride this week and all went well. So that was a good test as to the effectiveness of the therapy. I’ll wait for awhile and see if things continue to get easier. If not, I’ll get back in touch with my friend Ashley at Leatherman Spine Center and schedule the spinal injections.

I had to cut my ride short as I noticed a screw had come out of the mount for my cell phone and Garmin navigation device. I was a little uncomfortable with it just flopping around so I came back to the house and put two new screws in it and used lock-tite this time. That should fix that.

My work with Bluegriffon came to an abrupt halt this week. The next step in the tutorial was to create a feedback page. It was designed to be a form you filled out and the system would automatically email it to whatever address you programmed it to come to. So I fired up sendmail on the server and everything kept coming back as being blocked as spam. A little investigation revealed that Spectrum has all it’s customer’s IP addresses registered with Spamhausen as spam originators. So all the email handlers out on the internet would check the origin IP address of the email and automatically reject the message. There is no way to get that removed as Spectrum does it specifically to keep people like me from running email servers on their network. So I have been working on a way to circumvent that issue. I have a good lead on resolving the problem but need a little configuration work on the sendmail software. I’ll keep you posted. Not that you are really interested.

Saturday my son-in-law Mike came over. We had bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast then I taught him how to make Jambalaya. We had that for lunch and we put the rest in freezer containers and he was gone. I spent the next couple hours cleaning up the kitchen.

Well that is it for this week. Not exciting but got a lot done. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. I’ll blog at you again next week.
