Another interesting week……………………………………….
As always, first the chronology:
4/18/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time. Down to do the blog. Upstairs and cleaned up. Julie came over with Chloe and Shelby to see the new puppy arrival. Unfortunately it was a scam and Kathy is out some money. Went over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together. Fixed a garage door while over there. Home and Kathy and I went to Cattleman’s Steak house for dinner. Home and usual evening routine.
4/19/21 – Monday – Up a little early. A guy we had put the railing on the front porch came over this morning to look at our back deck and tell us what he suggested. I left him with Kathy and I went off to PT. Home and picked up Kathy and over to Preston Highway. Stopped at Bob Evan’s for lunch then to Menard’s to pick out decking for the back deck. Home and chores. Dinner and usual evening routine.
4/20/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time. Out and sprayed Roundup under the back deck. Helped Kathy prune some shrubs. Lunch then worked on the garden and did some spot seeding in the front yard. Inside, cleaned up, rest, dinner and usual evening routine.
4/21/21- Wednesday – Up at the usual time. Kathy went shopping. i played radio awhile but bands were bad. Did some computer work till Kathy came home. Helped unload the car and put things away. Had lunch then out for more shopping. Picked up Shelby while out. She is sick and will stay overnight at our house so Kathy doesn’t have to get up early tomorrow. morning to go watch her. Had dinner and usual evening routine. Played radio and 80 meters was in very good shape.
4/22/21 – Thursday – Up a little early today, cleaned up and out for PT. Home and did some shopping online. Lunch with the wife and our grand daughter Shelby. Downstairs to the shack and checked the radio. Bands dead. Did some computer work. Took a nap. Down for the evening routine. Kathy was running late due to taking Shelby home. Had dinner late then usual evening routine.
4/23/21 – Friday – Up at the usual time. Checked the radio but bands were bad. Out to do the lawn work. In for lunch and quit about 3:30 or 4. Cleaned up. Kathy went to the Rice residence to watch two of the grand kids while Mike and Julie went out to a movie. Chloe was staying over with a friend. I made my self dinner and then the usual evening routine.
4/24/21 – Saturday – Up a little early to go help my son-in-law. But he called and people are sick at his house so we decided to do it another time. Spent the day working on computer issues. Kathy ran errands this morning. The day was miserable. Rainy and cold. So we stayed inside. Had two very nice meals. Usual evening routine.
Now the specifics:
Physical Therapy has its ups and downs. Felt really good last week. Went to therapy Monday and felt like shit the rest of the week. I’ve been working to improve things and I think I’ve figured out a few things. Time will tell. No idea how long this is going to last. And I still haven’t decided about the spinal injections.
Kathy got her inheritance money from her mother and father’s estate finally. So she wanted to do some things around the house which included refurbishing the back deck. We called the guy that put the railing on the front porch. He did a fantastic job and we like and trust him. He came over Monday morning and took a look at things. I wasn’t sure what needed replaced and what was still good. So bottom line he suggested we replace the deck floor and do something with the railing. We agreed but he told us we had to go to Menard’s (A building supply company) and pick out what we wanted then he could give us an estimate. So, when I came back from PT on Monday we went over to Preston Highway, stopped at Bob Evans over there for lunch then went shopping for the decking at Menard’s. We picked up a few other items while there and headed home. Kathy sent him what we picked out. He sent the estimate, she made arrangements to sign the contract and now we just wait for the material to come in.
Every time I get a hair up my ass to do something new, I usually manage to screw it up. Well earlier this year I decided to buy a spreader to pull behind the lawn tractor. Then I got gungho and put some Turf Builder down and then got some grass seed and did what I thought was over seeding. Well, everything seemed to work OK except the grass that was already growing and the seed I used to over seed the front yard were two different kinds of grass. So now I have a zebra front yard. A strip of dark green, a strip of light green, a strip of dark green, etc. Looks funny as hell but it looks much fuller. I figure I keep over seeding it with the new kind of grass seed, that will take over and it won’t look funny any more.
The gastro-intestinal virus is raging around here. Julie had trouble waking Shelby up on Monday morning so she took her to the emergency room. They ruled a bunch of things out including meningitis, COVID, regular flu and a couple other things. We picked her up Wednesday afternoon and brought her over to the house to keep here and she was fine. Sent her back to school on Friday. Then Saturday I was suppose to go over and have breakfast with Mike and Carter then change out some receptacles. Mike texted me that Julie and Carter were sick now so we canceled out work for the day. By the next day they were all over it.
Last Sunday was a very sad day here. Kathy has been wanting a puppy and they saw a golden like she wanted on a website. The place was supposedly in Texas somewhere. The price of the puppy was unreasonably low. That should have been the first clue. But these people are experts in exploiting people’s emotions. So they order it and it was suppose to be flown up and delivered last Sunday. In the mean time Kathy got an email that said the puppy was somewhere in Nebraska and they discovered the “Refundable Insurance” had not been paid and would need that done before the puppy could go any further. That was the nail in the coffin that it was definitely a scam. But they conned Kathy out of more money and of course the little puppy she had been waiting for never showed up. Kathy paid with Zelle (Don’t ever do that) so she went back to them and filed a report. I don’t know if she’ll get anything back. I tried to find someone to report it to and no one wants to touch it. Very sad. We are catering to thieves. A very bad situation indeed. I didn’t care about the money but it sure did hurt Kathy and the grand kids.
I wore out a pair of 6″ boots I have been using for doing outside work here. So, I got the next pair in line and started using them. You might ask why I had so many pairs, well they were mostly used in New York when I worked security. Unfortunately that was the last pair and was the pair I used for riding motorcycle. So I set off to purchase another pair. Well, not so easy a job. First, I’m sure you have all experienced going back to look for something that you really liked only to find out it no longer exists. That’s what happened. So, I searched for the equivalent and order them online. Then I got an email indicating they were no longer in stock. Believe it or not, that happened a total of three times. I’m not sure if it’s a supply issue or everyone is gearing up for the apocalypse. But 6″ high tactical type boots are a commodity. The last source was Walmart. I’m still waiting to see if they ship or are out of stock.

The above pictures are what we woke up to Wednesday morning. Typically it’s called the onion snow. It was beautiful and all gone by lunch time. Glad I caught a couple pictures. Hard to believe we were mowing grass on Friday.
Well that’s it for this week. I did have a couple things to rant about but I’ll save them till next week and for your sake hopefully forget about them. Hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way my friend. Blog again next week.
Glad y’all got the snow and not me!!
