Not a bad week…………………………………………………

As always, first the chronology:

5/2/21 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Didn’t sleep well last night.  Downstairs to do the blog.  Kathy went to church in J-town.  She came home and we had lunch.  I got cleaned up and went over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and chatted.  Had dinner and usual evening routine.

5/3/21 – Monday – Up a little early, cleaned up and out to Physical Therapy.  Graduated today.  They told me I didn’t have to come back unless I started having problems again.  Home and chores.  Then lunch.  Out to pick up Gary and a project item he is working on.  Came over to the shop and did some work for him.  Took him back along with is project.  Came home, changed clothes and went to Lowes with Kathy to shop for a new clothes washer and dryer.  Stopped at Cattleman’s Roadhouse for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

5/4/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and chores around the house.  Out to Lowes to pick up some things.  Then to Taylorsville for more shopping.  Home and lunch.  Played radio and did some computer work.  Kathy went to County Clerks office to renew vehicle registration.  She came home and we took a little nap.  Up and dinner.  Usual evening routine.

5/5/21 – Wednesday – Up very early this morning and over to pick up Gary for a 7:30AM dentist appointment.  Finished up around 11AM after getting him back home.  Kathy was grocery shopping so did some chores till she got home.  Helped bring groceries in and helped put them away.  Had lunch.  Did some more chores then to bed for a nap.  Guys came with Kathy’s new washer and dryer.  Got them installed.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

5/6/21 – Thursday – Up at the usual time. Chores most of the morning.  Then some computer work.  Lunch.  Continued computer work.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

5/7/21 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Finished up the server configuration and put it in service.  Went through the other boxes I have and put a couple aside for my brother-in-law Terry.  Then upstairs for lunch.  Kathy was off to get her hair done.  I did some things in the shop and took things down off the rear deck.  Kathy came home and went off with the dogs to the vets.  She came home and we went to Lowes to get stain for the deck around the pool.  Stopped at Cattleman’s Steakhouse for dinner.  Home and usual evening routine.

5/8/21 – Saturday – Up a little slow today.  Mostly chores around the house.  Cleaned up and lunch.  Downstairs to work on cleaning up the shack.  Then out to Shogun’s Japanese Restaurant with the Rice family to celebrate Kathy’s birthday.  Back to the Rice house for ice cream cake.  Home and usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

The highlight of the week was Kathy’s birthday on Saturday. We had dinner with the Rice family at Shogun’s Japanese restaurant Saturday evening. Then went over to the Rice home for ice cream cake afterward. Kathy already got a puppy for her birthday.

Here we all are at Shogun’s. The waiter took the picture so it didn’t turn out very well.

Here’s the birthday cake we got at Dairy Queen. To begin with, not all Dairy Queen’s are doing ice cream cakes so it was a challenge finding one. Julie found one in Crestwood but the staff was all young kids. And this is what you will get for $15.00 an hour.

But it didn’t bother Kathy. She blew out the candles and we all enjoyed eating a bit of the cake.

If you didn’t see it last week, Kathy got a Golden Doodle puppy last Sunday for her birthday. If you missed it you can see it’s picture on last weeks blog.

The clothes washer finally died the end of last week. We got looking at things and it’s 12 years old. We brought it down from New York with us. We had called to get it repaired but on Monday I decided to take her over to Lowes and see what they had. She found an LG washer and dryer she liked so we decided to get them and cancel the repair on the old one.

As luck would have it, we had the company come in and clean the dryer vent out and the guy that came asked what we planned to do with the dryer as his daughter needed one. So we gave him the old dryer and he came back to pick it up Tuesday evening.

The guys came from Lowes to deliver and install the washer and dryer. A couple of non-english speaking young men that were very nice. However, they apparently lost one of the screws out of the terminal strip when they were installing the pig tail on the dryer and just picked up a sheet metal screw off the floor and used it. Of course it was too small and worked lose quickly. The lose connection caused the wire to overheat and short out to another wire and tripped the circuit breaker. An easy fix with a replacement screw I found in the junk box that was the correct size and some electrical tape on the wires with missing insulation.

All is good now and Kathy like them. She even discovered that her comforter will fit in the washer now so she doesn’t have to take it to a laundromat to wash and dry it.

And they both come equipped with WiFi so I linked it to her phone and she gets notices when the washer and dryer have completed a cycle and she can set them and run them remotely. Not sure why you would want to do that but she can.

Monday was the last session at Physical Therapy. Last Thursday I asked how long I would need to come and Monday this week they reevaluated me and said I was good to go. Still need to keep up with some exercises at home but I don’t have to drive up to MIddletown twice a week now.

Finished setting up the new server and got it in service Friday. Went through several iterations of things then discovered the Ubuntu was not recommending their version 20.10 software as it still had some bugs. So I went back to 18.04 and everything works great.

Did a lot this week helping Gary. He was repairing some weather damage to a tractor seat and needed to cut off some bad metal and replace it. Rather then mess around at his place, I went over Monday afternoon and brought him and the tractor seat over to the shop here and did the work he needed done.

Then Wednesday I was up early and over to take him to the dentist to have some teeth removed in preparation for some reconstruction. Last time his wife had a very hard time handling him as he was sedated so I took care of it this time. He is doing well and I’m sure they appreciated me taking care of him.
