Week Ending 5/15/21

Wife worked me to death this week. Sore and tired………………………………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

5/9/21 – Sunday – Up a little early.  Down to do the blog.  Helped Kathy get things ready for lunch.   The Rice family was coming over to celebrate Mother’s day.  I spent the rest of my day cleaning up the shack.  Had dinner and the usual evening routine.

5/10/21 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Out to put turf builder on the spots I missed in the front yard.  Over and cleaned up the garden and rototilled it.  Lunch then out to power wash the deck.  Power washer wouldn’t start so took it to the shop, blew out the carburetor and fuel lines.  Kathy started mowing.  Got the power washer working and started power washing the deck around the pool.  Cleaned up and inside.  Cleaned up and had dinner.  Usual evening routine.

5/11/21 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Chores around the house till 10 then out for yard work.  Finished about 3:30PM.  Cleaned up and out for dinner at Cattleman’s Roadhouse.  Some shopping for garden soil.  Home and usual evening routine.

5/12/21 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Did some research on garden soil.  Ended up going to Twin-M and ordering 5 cubic yards of top soil.  Will get it in a week or two.  When it arrives we will till it into the garden with fertilizer.  Worked on rebuilding the door to the garden.  Tried the radio a couple times today and bands were very bad.  Usual evening routine.

5/13/21 – Thursday – Up a little early.  Kathy was off to take Chloe to a doctor’s appointment.  I went down for my hair cut.  Then painted the frame for the garden fence gate and took the mesh off the old frame.  Inside for some phone calls and lunch.  Back out and worked on power washing the pool deck.  Inside for dinner and usual evening routine.

5/14/21 – Friday – Up early again today with the dogs barking.  Chores in the house then out to put a coat of paint on the frame for the garden gate.  Lunch then continued power washing the pool deck.  Finished that up and put things away.  Inside and dinner.  Usual evening routine.

5/15/21 – Saturday – Up early again today with the dogs barking.  Put the gate up I built for Kathy’s garden.  Put a new plug and repaired the cord on the carpenter’s saw.  Then spent most of the afternoon busting up my old piano and putting it in the dumpster. Went to the Mexican restaurant in Taylorsville for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Last weekend was both Kathy’s birthday and Mother’s day. So Mike and Julie took us all out to a Japanese Steak house for dinner on Saturday evening so Kathy and Julie made all kind of good food for us Sunday evening. They came over here and all had a good time.

Monday I put down some turf builder and started getting the garden ready for Kathy. She wanted some garden soil put down so I took her to Lowes and a few other places and she decided it was too expensive. After spending a lot of time she decided to go back to where I first suggested and get some top soil. When it’s delivered in a week or so I’ll rototill it and some fertilizer into the existing garden. Should prove to be much better.

Also got the new garden gate finished and put up.

Here’s the garden queen with her new gate on the garden. She got some plants already and we are just waiting for the top soil to arrive. Then we’ll get more done on it.

Monday I started to power wash the deck around the pool in preparation for having it stained. We got the stain and some brushes. A friend of ours is going to come over and do it for us. Anyway, got the power washer out and it wouldn’t start. So I took it back in the shop, took it apart and blew out the gas line and carburetor. It started with some fresh gas and I started power washing the deck. Spent time Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on it. Finished it up Friday. Kathy was a big help.

Here she is hard at work helping. Actually we were taking turns as it was hard holding the head on the power washer and made your hands feel funny after awhile. So she took advantage of her down time and soaked up some sun.

This is me finishing up things. It was a very long and tedious job.

The dogs enjoyed their time outside.

Saturday we finished up the gate and put it on the garden. The guy that’s rebuilding the deck on the rear of our house had a problem with his circular saw so I took some time and fixed it for him. Then spent the rest of the day breaking up the piano I had. It was the one I started with and has moved from Tyrone, PA to Carmel, NY and finally down here to Kentucky. Had a couple experts look at it and they said it was not capable of being tuned correctly. If they did it would only last. a couple months. Since they brought in a dumpster for the debris from the deck project, we broke up the piano and put it in the dumpster. Was a little sad thinking about the sacrifices my parents made to buy it for me many years ago. But there was nothing we could do about it and it was just taking up space. So it’s gone.

Kathy is still having challenges with the new puppy. He still has accidents and won’t tell her when he has to go. He also has this habit of waking up anytime between 4:30AM and 6:30AM. Not a pleasant thing. I haven’t been getting much sleep this week. I guess it’s just something I’ll have to live with for awhile.

Hopefully this coming week we will get a couple good days we can put stain on the pool deck. Hopefully get some closure on the rebuild of the deck on the rear of the house. Also get the top soil for the garden and get that going this year.

Well that’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and well. Stay that way. It looks like this COVID crap is starting to wind down. If we just make it through the next 3+ years of Biden being president perhaps we can get someone decent into office. Time will tell.

Stay safe and healthy my friends. Blog at you again next week.

  1. Very busy week!! I continually have the same issue with my pressure washer. It is a pain in the butt! If my neighbor can get mine running, I know where it will go! Stay safe and don’t work too hard!!
