Week Ending 11/5/22

Not a bad week…………………………….

As always, first the chronology:

10/30/22 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to church.  Kathy stayed home and was back in bed with a head ache.  Probably the weather.  Home and had lunch.  Down to do the blog.  Over to Gary’s for the afternoon get together.  Home and over to Cattleman’s Steakhouse for dinner with Kathy.  Stopped for a few things at Country Mart otherwise usual evening routine.

10/31/22 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Goofed off this morning till a little before noon then into St. Matthews to the pain management center.  Had a spinal block which is a test they have to do before the do ablasion.  Stopped at Big Boy on the way home for a late lunch.  Home and napped.  Up and a snack for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

11/01/22 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Felt good after getting a good nights sleep.  Spent the day finishing up the antenna I was building.  Got the UnUn built and tested.  Just need to add the wire and take it outside for further testing.  Did some cleanup in the shack.

11/02/22 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Spent most of today in the Morton building trying to figure out how to get wires for the engine compartment of the truck into the passenger compartment to install my radio.  I finally found the rubber gromet they were talking about in all the Youtube videos.  Did a complete survey of the situation and decided it will take more material than I have and a couple days work.  So that project will wait till next week.

11/03/22 – Thursday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and out to Shelbyville for some shopping.  Stopped at Harbor Freight, Autozon and Lowes.  Didn’t get everything I wanted at Autozone so came over to Taylorsville and picked up the missing stuff.  Kathy went into Jtown for some chemicals to get the algae out of the pool filter before we put it away and then grocery shopping.  Came home and forgot to get her pills at the pharmacy in Kroger.  So we put things away and went back in.  Pharmacy was closed for lunch so we went to Craft Pizza for lunch then got her pills.  Stopped on the way home to vote.  Home and did some chores at the Morton building including giving the golf cart a bath.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

11/04/22 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Out to clean the church.  Then to Lynda’s for lunch.  A stop at Country Mart for Trail Mix, and ice cream.  Home and a nap.  Down to the shack and started cleaning up.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

11/05/22 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Spent the day trying to cleanup the shack.  Echolink stopped working.  Made some POTA contacts and a couple PSK contacts.  One notable contact was a 16 year old young man that had his extra class license.

Welcome to November. The next the last month in 2022. Damn is time passing fast. It seems the older I get the faster time flies.

Sunday this week the weather was crap. As usual, when it’s overcast and rainy, Kathy gets head congestion. So she stayed home, took some crap and went back to bed while I went to church. Now isn’t that a switch?

We voted Thursday. Down here they start a little over a week before election day and give people the chance to vote that have some sort of excuse for not voting on election day. When we were poll workers we did that since we didn’t know which polling place we would be at or if we would have time to vote. Then Thursday this week they started early voting for anyone that just wanted to vote and get it out of the way. Of course I had to run into one of the idiots that thinks she hot shit when it comes to working the polls but doesn’t know shit. Anyway, I suppressed my natural desire to be an asshole.

Monday I went to a new pain management group that my spinal doctor sent me to. He said they were much better than the ones I had gone to. My appointment was just after lunch and they basically said they weren’t going to fool around repeating what had already been done. So they gave me a nerve block which as I understand it must be done twice before they do the ablation. Well I felt %100 better after that. It was amazing. I massaged them the results so now I just have to wait for the second block. Then they will do the actual ablation. Again as I understand it, they essentially burn the nerve so you don’t feel the pain. They claim it lasts between 9 and 18 months. We will see.

I spent time this week finishing up my UnUn. That is a transformer that matches an unbalanced transmission line to an unbalanced long wire antenna. I simulated the wire antenna on the bench and ran a bunch of tests with the VNA. It wasn’t perfect but close. Very close. So, when I get a chance I’ll put it out back and trim the antenna. Then I’ll have a good antenna for portable use.

The down side of the week was that my Echolink node crapped out. I think it’s in the power supply section to HT. I have it on the work bench and will look at it later.

That’s about it for this week. As always, hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. Stay that way. Blog at you again next week.
