Week Ending 11/12/22

Not a bad week but may problems……………………….

As always, first the chronology:

11/06/22 – Sunday – Up at the usual time.  Off to church with Kathy.  Home, lunch and the blog.  Over to Gary’s for the Sunday afternoon get together.  Home and Kathy and I went to Olive Garden for dinner.  Stopped at Kroger for some groceries on the way home.  Usual evening routine.

11/07/22 – Monday – Up at the usual time.  Slow start this morning.  Gathered some things I’ll need to install the radio in the truck.  Had lunch then out to the Morton building and started working on installing the radio.  Finished up around 4PM.  In for dinner and usual evening routine.

11/08/22 – Tuesday – Up at the usual time.  Kathy was off to watch the grand kids.  I did some shopping for a new antenna for the truck.  Then did some other computer work.  Put in an order at Jimmy John’s for a sandwich for lunch.  Drove up and picked that up.  Home and worked on cleaning up the shack.  Took a nap.  Kathy came home.  We had dinner then the usual evening routine.

11/09/22 – Wednesday – Up at the usual time.  Out and cleaned up the mess I had in the shop from putting the radio in the truck.  Put some sealant around the corrugated tubing and the grommet I ran the wires through.  Inside for lunch.  Felt shaky as hell.  Had some lunch then laid down awhile.  Seemed to improve.  Did some things around the house and finished cleaning off the work bench in the shack.  Dinner and usual evening routine.

11/10/22 – Thursday – Up a little early today.  Cleaned up and out to pick up Gary for our hair cuts.  Got him home and did some things for Loretta.  Home and some chores around the house.  Got my new antenna for the truck.  Had lunch and out to the Morton building to put it on.  Still problems.  Inside and did some research.  Then worked on fixing the Echolink node.  Kathy was off to take Chloe to the doctors.  Julie called to see if I wanted to eat out at Longhorn.  I respectfully declined.  Kathy went.  I had some of my Jambalya for dinner.  Usual evening routine.

11/11/22 – Friday – Up at the usual time.  Continued working on the Echolink issue.  Kathy took off after lunch to do some shopping with her daughter and then to the grocery store.  I continued my efforts on the Echolink issue and pretty much narrowed things down.  This afternoon I played radio.  Made a few POTA contacts and chatted with a guy in Pittsburg, TX for awhile.  Kathy came home and we had dinner.  Usual evening routine.

11/12/22 – Saturday – Up at the usual time.  Cleaned up and down to the shack to work on Echolink.  Got everything back working.  One minor issue I’ll deal with later.  Lunch then out to the Morton building to work on the radio in the truck.  Still get interference in the audio system of the truck on 70cm.  Made a run to Taylorsville for more trail mix and funny beer.  Home and dinner.  Usual evening routine.

Now the specifics:

Well, it’s not Thanksgiving yet but we are starting some Christmas season things. First is not something we can control But Kathy’s Christmas Cactus is doing well.

And on another note, Julie got a picture of all the kids with Santa Claus..

It’s amazing she got them all to smile at the same time. Except Santa Claus.

My Echolink project took a nose dive this week. It seems……….. Oh hell, you don’t care about that anyway. Bottom line, I spent some time this week figuring out what the problem was, fixing it and then fixing the mess I made figuring out what the problem was. Anyway, I got that back on the air last night and I’m looking forward to taking it up to the repeater site and getting it out of the house.

Finally figured out how to put the HAM dual band radio in the truck. The hold up was getting the wires from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment. I got past that and got a good antenna on it but the RF out of the radio on 70cm is getting into the audio system in the truck. I still have a few more tricks up my sleeve to resolve that. Might have to move the radio and come up with a different scheme to mount it.

Kathy and I are enjoying the sandwiches that we get from a place here called Jimmy John’s. They taste just like the ones we used to get from a place in Tyrone called East End Pizza. Since Kathy was busy with grand kids on Tuesday I ordered one and went up and picked it up. It’s a rather long drive, perhaps 15 minutes one way, just to get a sandwich. But they are so good. And this time I got a pickle and they taste just like the good quality deli pickles we used to get in New York.

Made a few long overdue phone calls this week. My friend in Florida seems to be very lonely and missing his sweet heart that he had last year. She passed away this winter from side affects with her cancer treatment. Not a good thing for Stan as his wife passed from cancer. I’m sure it’s a double banger for him. I think Kathy is going to call and invite him up for Thanksgiving and Christmas so he is not alone. I also called Lynn. We had a nice chat. Things are good in Texas and her family in Florida made it through the last storm with little problem.

The ongoing saga of dealing with the back. The pain management folks I was referred to have scheduled a second set of blocks to be done this coming week on Wednesday afternoon. If they provide any kind of relief then I get approved for the ablation. Hopefully that will provide 9 to 18 months relief before I have to deal with this again. I’ll keep you posted.

That’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
