A productive week…………………………………………………………………………………………
As always, first the chronology:
6/21/26 – Sunday – Blew off church today so we could all have lunch early for Father’s Day. We were suppose to go to Cracker Barrel but they had an extremely long watining line so we went to the Yoki Buffet. We made a stop at Homedepot to try and get a bump head for Kathy’s stringer trimmer. Home and some computer work. Then had dinner at home and usual evening routine.
6/22/26 – Monday – Kathy was off for a pedicure at Walmart. I went to the shack to continue filing things after we got our taxe stuff back. Kathy got home around 4PM. Had lunch and usual evening routine.
6/23/26 – Tuesday – Up and printed of my leave request and took it to Taylorsville to submit it. Home and lunch. Up to Brownsboro for Kathy to get a shot in her knee and I went to the hospital to get blood drawn for my knee replacement. Then we went shopping at Costco. Stopped at Arby’s in Browsboro for a sandwhich for Kathy. Stopped at Country Mart on the way home. Home and Kathy had her sadnwich from Arby’s and I had a delicious seafood salad sandwich.
6/24/26 – Wednesday – Kathy was off to get her hair done and ran some errands. I did some computer work and did some research on why my Allstar node is not behaving. Kathy got home around 3PM and we had lunch/dinner. Had a snack later and then to bed.
6/25/26 – Thursday – Kathy was off to volunteer at the VA. I did computer work. Order some things from Amazon for Prime days. Ordered a bump head for Kathy’s stringer. And since I got almost $500 from working at the Sheriff’s Office I ordered a new radio to play with while I am down with the knee replacement. Kathy got home late and we had left over soup for dinner. Usual evening routine.
6/26/26 – Friday – Waited for the HVAC guy to show up for the spring checkup of the heating/cooling system. He got here around 10AM and was here for a couple hours. Kathy was off to pick up peaches she order from the peach truck. Kathy got home about the same time the HVAC guy was leaving. Had lunch and Kathy went for groceries. Got a call from Julie inviting us out to Cracker Barrel for dinner with the whole family. Home and usual evening routine.
6/27/26 – Saturday – Had tremendous thunder storms last night. Dogs kept us up along with text messages warning us of the bad weather. Tried to sleep in but Rusty had other ideas. Had breakfast then a nap. Up for lunch and another nap with Kathy. Up mid afternoon and did some computer work then dinner. Usual evening routine.
Now the particulars:
Sunday being Father’s day the family or some part of the family decided to go early to Cracker Barrel for lunch and not have to fight the crowd Sunday evening. Kathy and I were the first to get there and quickly found out that a lot of people went for brunch and we were late for that. People were lined completely across the front of the restaurant. So, a quick call to Julie to update her and a decision to go to the Yoki buffet across the road. They had just opened and we had no problem getting seated there and the food is always great.
Monday I took advantage of some quiet time to get the taxes organized to be put away. I usually send summary sheets to the accountant otherwise I’d have to pay him for going through everything and adding it up. So I do that then when I get the paper work back from him I put all the supporting paperwork back in with the tax forms. Got that all done now just have to put it in the box where it belongs and I’ll probably have to get rid of some years worth of taxes to get it done.
Tuesday I used AI to write a letter requesting a leave of absence from the Sheriff’s Office. I really had a hard time making the decision to do that but I really was getting bad enough that I could not do my job safely or effectively. I took that in and gave it to them Tuesday and by the end of the day my request was granted. So no more work till after the knee gets replaced, the rehabilitation is complete and my doctor says it’s OK for me to go back. I don’t expect that to be more than a month. Now I can be more disciplined in taking my medication and I can take some stronger stuff that I wouldn’t take if I were carrying a gun. So that is all working out great and I think I made a good decision.
Thursday I had some time to do some online shopping. Since it was Prime days on Amazon we picked up some things there. A charger for Kathy’s new Apple Watch, a new wrist band for me, some tops and a pair of shorts for Kathy. While I was browsing, I ordered a few other items including a portable low power radio I’ve had my eye on. No reason to have it but since my last paycheck for the S. O. was a little over $500 and that would cover it easily, I pulled the trigger and ordered it. It takes about 5 to 7 days for delivery so that should be right before I go for the knee replacement and it will give me something to play with while I’m laying around recouperating.
Friday night into Saturday morning we had tremendous storms come through the area. The rain gauge read just shy of 5″ of rain on Saturday. That’s not counting what we got Friday night. Needless to say we were up most of the night with alerts going off on the weather radio as well as local alerts coming in over the cell phone. The little time we did have to sleep the dogs where going crazy with all the lightning and thunder. We didn’t have any destruction here but there were some areas that got hit hard. A lot of people put trailers in close to the river to make it like a summer home and those all got washed away. Everything is receding now and things are getting back to normal. But still a lot of clean up to do. Thanks to all those that called or texted to check on us.
As of this writing I have two weeks and one day till they give me a new knee. I’ve been waiting for the hammer to fall that says I can’t do it but for now it’s all a go. My blood work from Tuesday came back and all looks good. Now I just have to figure out what pills I have to stop taking and when. I will get that clarified this week as I’ll have to stop some of it next weekend. I’m surprised that the process has changed. It used to be the best treatment was intensive physical therapy everyday until you are completely rehabilitated. Now it’s just the opposite. They want you to rest as much as possible. As I understand it, I’ll have 2 sessions of in house PT per week for 2 weeks after the operation. Then a couple weeks out patient PT and I should be good to go. We will see.
That’s it for this week. As always, hope this finds you safe and healthy. Stay that way and I’ll blog at you again next week.
